Heavy Harmonies Review
From: Dan Date: March 16, 2003 at 4:27
When we last left our German band of rockers, they were fresh off a critically acclaimed debut. Could our heroes match, let alone surpass the melodic excellence of their first album? Will Batman survive the Riddler's diabolical plot?...

I'm happy to report that Dark Sky has not succumbed to the dreaded "sophomore slump". In fact, this album is even better than the first one! It's got a slightly heavier edge, a "crunchier" tone than the debut. The lead vocalist's accent has been toned down quite a bit; it's barely noticible now.

There's no filler at all in this album. 12 tracks of solid melodic rock. Once again I'm amazed at the production/mix quality they are able to achieve. The supposed "major labels" of the AOR scene (Frontiers, MTM, Escape) could take a few notes from Good Life Music. Vocal harmonies are everpresent on the choruses, even on the heavier tracks. I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite from the album, but I think the ballad Hope Still Hasn't Gone is absolutely wonderful. If you're a fan of German AOR (Fair Warning, vintage Bonfire, etc.) you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not immediately running out and getting this disc. In my opinion, an album of the year contender, at this point running neck and neck with Jaded Heart's The Journey Will Never End.

Yeah, it looks like someone has been playing with the ratings. That notwithstanding, this is one HELL of an album. Was my #2 choice for best CD of 2002. I loved their first album and this one is better.

From: Teo_3 Date: January 12, 2003 at 11:28
I have already made a comment about someone altering the ratings of the album that are not on his top 25.DARK SKY is one of his "victims".Such a grat page and it gets ruined by some immature old people. What a pity!!!!

The band plays good on this cd but it just doesn't sound as good to me as their debut cd.

Really amazingly good record!!! I´ve had this album a few months ago and it was a real treasure for me! Whole summer went by, with listening Bartimaeus, Searching For.., Judgement Day, Touching You, Fading Light and other masterpieces from this album! I hope their third album follows THIS one!

From: Enrico Date: May 17, 2004 at 19:41
Maybe I prefer the first one, but this is still another great album by a great band. "Searching for better tears" is a killer song. Rock on!

From: Rycheage Date: May 22, 2004 at 20:46
The song quality is surprisingly high throughout the CD with many highlights to be found. ‘Bartimaeus’, ‘Searching for Better Tears’, ‘Judgement Day’, ‘Turn Away’ and ‘Touching You’ are just a few examples of the huge melodic rockers that can be found on this CD. For the most part you will find mid-to-high paced rockers, but they have also made room for one ballad and a couple of semi-ballads. The melody-lines and choruses are very good and strikingly addictive to say the least.

This sounds awesome, but just doesn't do it for me. I love the comparitors above like Bonfire, Fair Warning etc, but just couldn't get into this. I think it's the English translation, as some of the lyrics are very bizzare. I'd play it for the huge, powerful sound, but am just not sure why someone would be "searching for better tears"?!

From: Dave Date: June 28, 2004 at 0:59
After hearing this, all i can say are that some people are very easily pleased

From: Geoff Date: March 3, 2005 at 2:33
LOL, agreed Dave. Whilst I was delighted to see that the band found their guitars on this album and opted to lose the thick keyboard sound- they really sound MUCH better... but they still forgot to bring the songs along. Musically they remind me a little of Frontline or Bonfire (comparisons stop there), but their lyrics are awful and for me they just don't write good choruses and can't seem to get grip of a decent hook. I admire their efforts, but for me they're falling well short of their peers

Otra Great band of Germany, Great album, un Hard Melodico de gran nivel, la comparacion a Frontline y Bonfire es buena, realmente uno de los ganadores del 2002, mis favoritos Turn Away, Fading Light, Judgement Day, Searchin for Better Tears, Bartimaeus hacen un gran album, este tampoco puede faltar en tu coleccion, asi como el primero que debe ser tan bueno como este, tengo que conseguirlo. saludos desde Ica-Peru.

From: oliver Date: May 13, 2005 at 16:31
easily pleased?? very good joke. this is killer melodic rock. small german accent, i admit it. but light years better than an average release like javan. a must have, no doubt about that! 9/10

From: thiago Date: January 2, 2006 at 10:20
Great album and great band!!! Pure AOR. The songs are powerful energy. If you like Stan Bush, Metropolis and Benny Mardones, you'll to like this album!!!

From: thiago Date: January 11, 2006 at 20:45

Great album in all senses. The first 3 songs are powerful tunes that are ready to blast your ears off!.This is agood hard/aor release.8/10

From: erik Date: June 17, 2007 at 4:44
Easily pleases ? Some people are truly too hard with their critics. Kinda BS if you ask me. I agree with Oliver. This is indeed killer melodic rock from Germany. Excellent job on the production btw. Sounds very "fresh". Bartimeus, Serching for Better Tears, Judgement Day, Touching You, Turn Away are cracking melodic hardrock songs. 8,4/10

Adding a more extensive opinion about this album...apart from the killer songs "Bartimaeus","Searchin For Better Tears" & the beautiful one "Hope Still Hasn't Come" we do have some another amazing tracks such as "Judgement Day" which rocks in a catchy way,"Look In My Eyes" is also catchy,"In My Mind" great!,"By Your Side" a smooth one,AORish and Poppy & "Turn Away" that ends the album rocking and rolling..as Dan said,no fillers whatsoever...and obviously a pretty recommendable album...get it!!!.91/100...an album that mixes rock,AOR,some metal here and there and with a vocalist that sounds like Stefan Zauner(Freiheit) & Roko Kohlmeyer(Roko)..both germans too..what a coincidence ...
