Let's take a trip back into the 1970s! This Norwegian band gives us a wonderful blend of classic early-'70s hard rock and progressive rock, tied together with modern production technology and good vocal harmonies. The biggest reason that I personally have never enjoyed many of the musical offerings of the late 1960s and early 1970s is that the recording and production quality of said pieces is usually pretty pathetic... the current releases on the Record Heaven label (including this disc) remove that variable from the equation! The sound quality and orchestration on this album are top notch! The songs are rather progressive in structure, but tend to have very strong choruses. One is immediately drawn to make comparisons to Jethro Tull because of the prominance of flute passages throughout. You also hear aspects of the quasi-psychedelic elements of early Black Sabbath (especially the guitar licks), and the lead vocals are reminiscent of classic Deep Purple. If, like me, you've been turned off by most '70s hard rock due to the primative musical technologies of the time (relatively speaking), I recommend giving this disc a listen! It makes for an extremely enjoyable musical experience Rating: 88/100 |
