Heavy Harmonies Review | |

There's a storm coming... and it's in the form of European AOR and hard rock releases on the Frontiers label, just now being distributed in the U.S. for the first time. I've been listening to their releases for quite some time, and now hopefully the masses will embrace the quality material coming from this label. Millenium's Angelfire is a perfect disc to choose as one of the point releases in the U.S., as it is damned near flawless in both quality and execution. From the outset the listener is enveloped in a cloak of sound; the majestic instrumental intro Nations right into the pounding riff-laden Shamen leave no doubt that melodic hard rock is here to stay! This is heavier-edged hard rock with loads of melodic hooks. Don't confuse this with any of the wimpy alterna-rock which is entirely too prevalent today in the states. This album will knock you out of your seat with towering choruses, crunchy metal-esque guitarwork and top-notch vocal work. Imagine the vocal characteristics of Survivor or Harlan Cage, but set against a much heavier and richer instrumental backdrop. I'd point out individual songs as highlights, but there's only one problem with this: They're *all* damned good! From the heart-thumping rockers to the epic ballads, there's not a single negative point to this album. Welcome to the United States, Millenium. I hope you stay a while! Rating: 95/100 |

Great album, 8 of 10, J,Todd Plant, is not Jorn Lande (In Hourglas), but he sings very good, Todd Plant is more Melodic than Lande, but has less power than Jorn. the sound of this album is a lot better than "Hourglass". |

This is one of THE melodic Rock mastrerpeices of the entire 90's. Everyrhing on this fits, grat songs, grat vocals and guitarwork, solid production even the artoek is cool. Shamen, Angelfire, Beyond The Edge of Time all winners. indeed there are NO fillers on this. A Must have |

There's not may posts on this one, but even in the few that there are, I notice that no one has pinpointed an individual song. And I understand why. It's because the quality of this CD rarely falters and each selection of heavy melodic rock is close to being as good as the previous track. I love Ralph's guitar style/sound, and overall this is just an excellent heavy melodic hard rock CD. Great songs, great sound. Very melodic. Highly recommended. |

Wow, it's great... not much more to say. Very solid from a production and talent standpoint and it's got some killer tunes... however, I think I prefer the "Hourglass" release with Jorn on vox. Don't let that stop you from buying this though, this is some extremely powerful stuff and should not be overlooked. |

After a while I must say something is missing here. The songs have a kind of melodieoverkill. They are all nice by first listen but no song stuck in my brain. I miss some edges and feeling here. |

Stumbled accross Dan's feature review here while yet again listening to this piece of brilliance. Was fortunate to discover the Eyewitness debut back when released and (pre-internet) initially missed Eyewitness morphing into Millenium. But back when Frontiers couldn't do much wrong and they signed one of the most overlooked acts period in Millenium. And while Jorn is the voice of voices and Hourglass rightly hailed a masterpiece, the J Todd Plant releases remain this fans prefered spin. And with Angelfire Millenium were sitting on an Ace this album punched at every turn. Read Dan's review at top, not a negative to be found, go dial up Shaman, some essential stuff here folks 8.5 \m/ |
