The last hurrah by Harem Scarem before they call it a day. Like the title of track #5 states, this is a dark release. On the song'Hope'it sounds like Hess trying to do his best(Layne Staley)Alice in Chains impersonation. 'Nothing without you' is a pretty ballad but the rest of this release for the most part is forgettable to me. I was hoping to see this band go out on a high note as the band's first 2 releases will go down in pop/melodic rock history as classics. The song 'Irresistible' that Hess contributes to the Voices of Rock MMVII release IMO is better than anything HS has put out in recent years. But this band is a true talent and although I don't care for some of it's modern sounding releases they deserve to be remembered as one of the best in their craft.

Excellent album. It has the slight darker edge of 'Voice of reason' and 'Overload' with some of the riffs in the verses, but what sets this apart is the excellent, huge choruses, one after another. Every chorus on this album is a delight, in turn making the songs marvelous too. 'Days Are Numbered', 'Dark Times', 'Beyond Repair' and 'Calm before the storm' are all gems, with killer choruses and monster hooks. However, the best is saved for last. 'Shooting star' is probably my favourite song on the disc, and 'Nothing without you' is one of ther finest ballads is the HS catalogue. This album is a great showcase for an excellent band. I pray it's not their last album, but if it is this is a wonderful way to go out. The VOR song,'Irresistible' doesn't match any of what is on offer here, imo.

GOOD CD 80/100 maybe is their last work together as a band I am agree with the commnets by Geoff and comparisons with 'voice of reason' are fair even if i'd rate 'voice of reason' much higher ! It's not a masterpiece but a nice release for all their DIE-HARD fans ! Harem Scarem FOREVER !

I 'HOPE' this isn't their LAST release and they will come back someday =[. Well, I've listened to it a couple of times and I like it,even though I thought it would be more melodic and less dark-edge,but is great anyway.Better than 'Overload',but I prefer 'Human Nature'. 80/100.

Not too often does an album really grab me on the first listen, especially song after song. But, this one did. These songs are so well done with huge gang vocals & just plain killer tunes. I think the slightly darker edged kept this album from going off the so called 'modern rock' deep end & into the cut-out bin. How it worked is beyond me but so glad it did.

Listening Shooting Star while I think it's their last album... I HOPE that's not true. Another great release. Always a bit diffrent fom the last one, always sounding to the great and mighty Harem Scarem

Well, we unfortunately get to see the final stages of Harem Scarem. This is one talented band that has had a bunch of very good releases mixed in with a few steller ones. As mentioned before, the first two are perfect peices of music bliss. I haven't listened to discs after Mood Swings to Weight of the World much so I can't comment on those (not my type of music). I believe HS found a genie in a bottle with the return of the HS name and WOTW. While I found their music enjoyable, it just missed the heavy hitting of the debut and MS. So, now with Hope. It is a great extension of what HS has done since WOTW and is a wonderful final 'message' to all of the fans. HS has always done very classy recordings with perfection and quality and, while the songs aren't my favorite type of music, I will never forget how talented these guys were with what they did. As for Hope 87/100

Awesome album !! Not a filler in sight and a perfect balance between rockers and ballads. I also sincerely 'Hope' that they do not call it a day after all.

Another stellar release from one of thew most consitent bands in the last 15 years! Once again Harem Scarem delivers another solid album, not a bad track here. It's hard to believe a band with this much talent never made a huge name for themselves in Nortrh Amaerica - WAKE UP PEOPLE! One thing is for sure, there are more popular bands out there but few have the consistent writing skills of Harem Scarem. In most cases you are lucky if you hear 2 good tunes on an album and with these boys it is rare to have 2 filler songs. Hopefully this is not the end of Harem Scarem, it would be nice too see more Albums another tour.

I have to disagree with plenty of you guys. I Think this is one of the worst albums that Harem Scarem have ever done. This album sounds a lot to 'Overload', 'Human Nature', or 'Higher'. Some people said that it has a lot of things in the 'Voice Of Reason' vein, but i disagree, because some dark guitar parts would seem a little bit similar, but, the general treatment of the guitars is different IMHO. I Think this is a very uninspired album, with lack of energy and very few catchy songs, in fact, the only song that i like in this album is 'Nothing Without You' and the rest is totally forgettable. We should remember Harem Scarem by albums like 'St', 'Mood Swings', 'Voice Of Reason' or 'Weight Of The World' for instance. It's sad to say it but, by listening to this album, is easy to understand one of the reasons why they decided to say that this is their last album... A big Dissapointment

In agreement with Yiro...maybe not their worst but neither their best!!!.Is like a new modernized rock sound with some touches of grunge!!!...am i wrong???...but certainly this ain't Aor.'Nothing Without You' is a nice ballad but com'on is like a song you can listen to for example a band called The Calling or even i think, they took inspiration from the new Def Leppard album!!!.I 'Hope' their next album, even though seems 2 be their last one as a band, would be better than this...75/100

From: Mr Nice Guy Date: June 7, 2009 at 2:31
ok..maybe not a good cd like their early albums (especially 1st and 2nd albums!)..however, 'shooting star, nothing without you & stranger than love (acoustic version)' was my fave songs all the time....especially 'shooting star', what a beautiful ballad ever!! believe me, dude!

From: 123charpenay Date: June 22, 2015 at 13:24
where are the magic moments of their debut album?mystery.here harem scarem plays a hard rock not melodic wich sound modern with a touch of grunge.it s a nightmare.how some so talented musicians could play a so sad music?all is wrong in this cd ,the music of course even the title.hope is not the good title.the real title is "despair".
