Got this one last week, so am still 'living' with it. Initial reaction is very good, although there are a couple of bad tracks included here ( the very very average Deep Purple'ish 'Overdrive').lots of great songs here 'Stronger', 'When Will it be love', Believe', 'How can I be sure'. Production is not bad, but could have been better. Nice to hear live drums instead of those drum machines that were all over the other releases. Fritsch and Mangold are as always excellent. So far 8/ 10

What was I lookin forward to this one. Drive She Said is one of the all-time best AOR bands and Mangold is a genius. But this CD is a bit disappointing compared to the classic debut and the compilation. The songs are not that strong and the production is flat. Not the classic I expected, still a good record, not a great one. I always try to judge a record honestly !!!

Yep, this album is a little bit dissapointing, the is no potential monster on it, can find even strong point. Some average productions with live drums, it sounds live on typical concert. I'm dissapointed. This album is definetaly not they stronges project, not bad but for sure not great.

Above all things, the songs contained on Real Life are all very well written, contain all the necessary hooks, plus additional melodies that make repeat listening a pleasure. The style may not appeal to all but on the basis of being familiar with what readers of this site like,I doubt anyone will be disappointed to hear that this is a classic AOR album, with a style from the past, but a heart from today.Anyone who knows the band would have expectations and the band deliver on those in fine style.

It's foundation lies in that well known formula for commercial 80's keyboard driven AOR, but the additional layers and hidden melodies that reveal themselves with each additional listen give the album a bigger impact and sense of originality.

Should have spent some more money on production here...Good persistent tracks but the demo sound wasn't meant for big, pompous 80s AOR...Too bad...Miss the old sound...

Pues a las primeras escuchas me parece muy inferior al anterior: excelerator. Habra q darle un poco mas d tiempo aver si me caoutiva tanto como sus 3 primeros y geniales discazos... ¿destacariais algun tema por encima d otro?

The production is not extraordinary but there is a handful of great tracks here. "Silver white", "Find Your Place", "How Can I Be Sure?" and "Believe" are my favorites so far. Don't know if this is a must-have, but the fact is that I've been listening to this cd over and over and I simply love it. Great compositions, vocals, guitar solos and piano progressions...

Hey guys, what do you have against the production? To me everything sounds ok, like their previous records. This is a true AOR album, as if taken directly from 1987 or so. And that's what I expect from a reformed 80s band in 2003/4: that they sound like one. DSS positively do.

You must be deaf! This one is nowhere near what was accomplished on AOR albums of the late 80s in general. The drums + the guitars sound very demo-like. Compare the sound of this one to the one on their debut for example...The mixing is totally screwed up as well..Mark should be glad that he has enough talent to be able to raise the music above bad production.

I love the title-track, and "Believe", but the rest is just ok really. Totally agree about the production, but then DSS have never really got that right. Still, the fact that hardly anyone is producing this stuff, and the fact you can get it dirt-cheap now makes it worth picking up...

I'm not a huge of this band at their best, but even I do not think they were THIS bad! This is, IMO, a horrid peice of AOR. I like a well written love song as much as the next guy, but I cannot stand over-sappy, poorly written sop. And there is plenty on this disc. By the third song the word "love" has been mentioned 17,000 times and you just regret hearing a decent band falter so poorly. Some of the poorest AOR I've heard.

Geoff, Drive She Sais is one of the VERY BEST AOR ACTS EVER, but you can't know that, cause you're not an AOR fan at all ! So let real AOR fans judge this CLASSIC BAND ! I do agree this is not their best one, but still better than 95% of all other records and even better than 99% of the current releases. Their first is AN ALL-TIME CLASSIC and their compilation is SUPERB ! WHAT A BAND 8

Take a look at yourself AOR Freaky. If you thought this was honestly one of the best bands ever you'd tell me how great their 4 studio albums are, not their debut and a 'Best of' collection. You make comments beyond my wildest comprehension, but I do not even believe you think this trash is better than 95% of all other records- what a STUPID thing to say, and you know as well as I do this is not better than 99% of any new releases and make silly comments like that to wind me up, and you succeed.

Don't get angry, Geoff ! What I write is the truth, it's what I think and feel, it's my taste ! I'm always HONEST about a review, just like you ! So if I write that I mean that this one, while not their best at all, is still better than 95% of the releases and even 99% of the current releases, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT ! Why should I lie ? ! I LOVE THIS BAND ! Maybe you don't understand why, that's your problem ! I often don't understand why you like some records I rate as crap ! Tastes differ !

My initial comments were very good for this. After 18 months of listening, that has changed to just a Good album and no more - compared to the debut,(and to a certain extent 'Driving Wheel'), this one is nowhere to be seen. Play them back to back and i think most people would feel the same. I love this band also, but saying this is Better than 95% of releases is praising this way too much i think. Better than 99% of current releases - i'll say no more.

I don't get angry AOR Freaky, but you're surely just winding me up at times. To me, it's disrespectful to call this poorly produced, simply written (Awful love songs) and ordinarily played (regardless of how good we know they CAN be) CD better than anything, let alone 95% of all releases. Maybe not a lie on your part, but you're obviously not thinking straight. Look at my other comments on these guys, I like some of their songs, but this is just a poor effort, and I know they're better than this

I bought this CD 'cause the name (DRIVE SHE SAID) is so fantastic I think. But the music I heard... well it reminds me of ASIA some way, but the sound is very weak and there are only 3 or 4 songs I like on this album... 4/10

Las mejores sin duda son "Real Life", "What's It Gonna Take?" "When Will It Be Love?" y las sentimentales "How Can I Be Sure?" "Always and Forever (Godz)", finalizando con la suave "Believe". 8.5/10

this is a come back for drive she said and i think its quite satisfying.it has no modern sound and it refers to the classic aor sound of the 80 s like asia and journey.the vocals and the melodies are the strong part of the album."we live for love","what its gonna take" and "when will it be love" the highlights.overall this isnt special but it wont disappoint you

Obviously if you compare this one with, for example, their debut one, it pales but it has some goodie tracks that still makes the release quite enjoyable...these 2 guys (Mangold & Fritsch)are genious!!!..."Real Life","We Live For Love","Overdrive"(ala Deep Purple & Rainbow),"When Will It Be Love?","How Can I Be Sure?"(nice ballad),"Always & Forever"(nice cover originally of the band Godz)& "Believe"(ala Toto,a good smoothie)...a matter of tastes but my rate is gonna be quite flexible...93/100
