I've been giving this several spins and really trying to like it, since I am a Keifer and Cinderella fan, but man, it's hard. We all know Tom's vocal issues, and he's a screamer to begin with, but the vocals on this one are so "cat-screeching" it's difficult to stay with it. Tracks 5,7, and 10 are passable, but only because of the guitar riffs. I can't recommend this one, the effort is just all over the place. His solo debut - way better, IMO. |

I agree with the Doug's comment above. I think what makes the vocals sound so abrasive/"cat-screeching" is the amateur mixing/poor production. The guitar level is as high as the lead vocals, which kills the dynamics, especially on the heavier songs where you can't even make out what lyrics are being sung. Blows my mind that the mix was approved/released to final production. I think there are some great songs on Rise but it's ruined by the abysmal mix. |
