This is a great effort from my country mates "The Fuzz Drivers". It hard to categorize their, because is such a unique sound with a bunch of good influences. It is Southern Rock, Classic Rock, 70's & 80's Hard Rock all mixed up on some powerful Rock. The debut was produced by the band and sounds great. Marcelo Vieira was the lead singer on Hot Stuff - Kind Of Crime CD (also in HH database). Just check them out !!! The band decided to put their CD available for download in its official site: http://thefuzzdrivers.com/

Pretty cool little album, here. Not sure I get the "Southern Rock" categorization -- what I hear is some bluesy boogie melded with modern Stoner Rock and some energetic flourishes. Sounds like an updated Garage Rock version of Blue Cheer (considering the modern "lo-fi" production), especially the singer -- or maybe even a more melodic Atomic Bitchwax blended with Tora Tora. Cool riffage and grooving, with some nice melodies and harmonic touches throughout, especially "Carved Time," "Mama Told You" and "Into The Sun." Even some up-tempo jamming on "The Poet and The Thief." I was surprised to learn they're Portuguese -- no hints of an accent anywhere. If you're looking for a change from the same ol' Glam / Sleaze / Hard Rock rut, give this a listen all the way through -- it'll grow on you. 90 / 100
