hi guyz, i'm writing these lines because i'm looked to this page and saw that no one write a comment to the FANTASTIC boulevard's debut album... yeah, this is a real AOR/FM masterpiece, with cool tracks like DREAM ON, IN THE TWILIGHT or YOU'RE FOR ME, great tracks of a great but sadly forgotten band.... We all want a Boulevard's reunion, why don't them get back together ??

So polished and smooth, you'd swear they were in the Cadillac buffing business before they were rock stars. This is as fine a West Coast AOR CD as any Canadian band has ever made. 'Far From Over' is one of the most perfect AOR songs ever. Glistening keys, soaring vocals and just enough guitar edge makes this a true winner! If you like this band, check out any or all of the following Canadian acts: Worrall (s/t), Renegade (Back From The Dead), Prism (Jericho), Eye Eye (Common Ground).

Another AOR masterpiece. Again a true CLASSIC in every sense of the word. On the same level as their second masterstrike. What a pity these guys never made it big, because they are one of the all time great AOR bands. BUY both their CD's, because they're ESSENTIAL !!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant stuff once again. This is keyboard AOR at its very, very best ! Their second is more mature, a true AOR jewel ! BOTH CD'S are CLASSICS ! Fantastic band, now some member are in First Shot, also an act to look out for ! Not as good as this BOULEVARD, but worth checking out ! THIS IS A MUST !

Very smooth AOR with great hooks and amazingly great Keyboard lines. One of my definite all time favourites, and is very similar to the follow up which is also an absolute AOR classic! Hard to pick between the two. This is more 'Keyboardy', the other is more guitar driven, but both very much in the same vein.

Other than the final song, the CD is spot-on excellent. My favorites are 'Dream On', 'In The Twilight', and 'Under The Moonlight'. This is pure polished AOR at its best. The vocals, and musicianship are top notch. My advice is to buy. EBay is not too bad on this now.

this is truly an aor masterpiece, mostly keyboard driven. the second on 'into the street' is also great, but more guitar-style. anyway you've got to own both, this one for songs like 'far from over' or 'in the twilight' (great chorus), the second album because of 'lead me on' and 'a rainy day in london' (great great ballad, believe me!). still own their - i believe - first maxi cd: 'dream on'. got to play that again. great stuff.

This is another band I could add to my list of AOR bands I enjoy. Yes, it's lite and there are a lot of keys, but these guys have some great songs. I remember being quite taken aback by the first song as I was not expecting much and it is great. I wouldn't call this a classic, but I would call it a very good AOR disc.

I have always preferred 'Into The Street' to this one (just) as I find it a more complete release songwise and holds up a little better overall, especially nowadays. This does feature one of my all time fave Boulevard tracks though in the brilliant 'Never Give Up'. That said, this is still a superb, quality album, done only the way most of the quality Canadian bands of the era knew how , and for a debut is a remarkable feat.

I'm not impressed with this band. Poor album. Pure fluff and shallow songs. Where is the passion? Lacking heart and soul. I am selling my copy. I rate this album a 4/10 sorry.

From: AOR freaky |
Date: July 23, 2005 at 4:51 |
I'm sorry for your, ninjapeter, if you don't like this one. I prefer their 'Into the street', cause it has more depth, but this is brilliant keyboard dominated AOR ! I wish that todays acts could offer the same, cause even Blanc Faces can't compete with this release ! STUNNING !
|
From: ArnoldLancelot |
Date: August 1, 2005 at 0:23 |
This is when we start talking about Classics! I would personally rate this one even better than their Into the Streets because of a more joyful and happy mood in it. Certainly 1 or 2 tracks lacks its highness but the songwriting's weight make it stands up still today. TIMELESS! and ESSENTIAL for any self respected AOR collector!

HELLO NINJAPETER.I'VE MANY QUESTION FOR YOU.ONE OF THE BEST AOR/FM ALBUMS IS POOR?SHALLOW SONGS,NOT PASSION HERE?DON'T YOU LIKE KEYSBOARDS?ARE YOU AOR OR ALTERNATIVE FAN?JUST LET THE PEOPLE WITH TASTE RATE THIS ALBUM WITH 40/10 AND NOT 4/10!SO,GREAT PRODUCTION,PERFECT KEYS,VOCALS SIMILAR TO KEVIN CRONIN(R.E.O. SPEEDWAGON)AND SOME CLASSIC SONGS HERE.JUST LISTEN TO 'FAR FROM OVER'(CHECK THE KEYS BEFORE THE SAX SOLO-AMAZING!),'NEVER GIVE UP'(MY FAV).DON'T NEED TO CONTINUE,EVERY SONG IS AN ANTHEM!
|
From: ninjapeter |
Date: September 7, 2005 at 0:41 |
Hello Paul: Yes this is a poor album. Very gumball music with fuffy and shallow songs. No passion at all. Yes I like keyboards but music needs more than just keyboards to make it have depth. Even if they used a piano once in a while it would be better. I love aor and hate alternative crap. Most aor bands have more substance than this. You think you have more taste than me because I don't like this garbage. But you think you know it all because you do like it, wow.
|
From: ninjapeter |
Date: September 7, 2005 at 0:52 |
Well let me tell you that I play a few instruments and write poetry and some were also published. That's more than you can say I bet. But your opinion counts more than mine right? I even like R.E.O. Speedwagon as you mentioned more than this. Everything on this album is so watered down it has no life left to it. Next time you shouldn't make such judgements on taste because maybe a mirror is needed.
|
From: ninjapeter |

I also think the rating speaks loudly here. Not a very good album and the people know it.

From: AOR freaky |

I fully agree with Paul on this one ! THis is SUPERB AOR, the way AOR should sound, and it blows away every AOR released these days, included the overrated new Journey one ! Ninjapeter, your taste is different to ours, mate ! WE ARE PURE AOR FREAKS and for a true AOR fan, this is AOR HEAVEN ! Great songs, lots of keys all over the album etc. WE LIKE IT ! THe fact you don't like it, leaves us a bit cold, I'm afraid. Tastes differ, mate !
|
From: PAUL |
Date: September 7, 2005 at 15:31 |
Dear ninjapeter.I can't understand how a true AOR friend can call this album crap. Are 'far from over' and 'never give up' poor and boring songs?Without passion?Only 4/10?GARBAGE????????????All AOR/HARD ROCK sites(check some),all melodic rockers(check above)have the same point of view.50 less or more comments agree with me,nobody accept your opinion.Maybe because this is one of the best AOR/FM albums of all times! Please, try to listen to it carefully one more time and you'll understand us,i'm sure
|
From: ninjapeter |
Date: September 10, 2005 at 23:28 |
Well I played it again and it still does not cut it. I am really sorry if I offend anyone with my comments. This band just leaves me flat because their music sounds way to cutesy and la la to me. The singer sounds like he hasn't gone through puberty yet and has no range to his voice. I don't know why they are even listed as aor because this is totally pop rock. I would compare them to Glass Tiger or Duran Duran. I am even from the same country as the band and still dislike it. Sorry folks. Yuck.

AOR MASTERPIECE. Uno de los mejores discos de AOR de la historia, impresionante! DREAM ON es uno de los grandes, pero tampoco sobresale mucho junto a WESTERN SKIES! FAR FROM OVER o UNDER THE MOONLIGHT. En comparación al siguiente, este disco es practicamente igual de bueno, aunque para mi es algo mejor el INTO THE STREETS. CLASSIC AOR ----> 9,25/10

What the Fu@K is wrong with the rating??! Shit, This should've be 10 out of 10! It's a superb AOR effort from one of the best bands from Canada, "far from over" is the best song ever done by Boulevard, I preffer a little more the second album, because of the song "Eye of the hurricane", but this one still a classic debut 10/10
|
From: DJRoxygen |

I gave this one a 10, but the average score only went from 3.73 to 3.74. I guess I could stay here all day, giving it 10, but then I'd be as stupid as the guy who had nothing better to do and gave it hundreds of 1's. Fans of Melodic AOR will know this is a near perfect album, so in this case, the rating is really not representative. No AOR collection will ever be complete if this CD is not present. Trust me.

By the way, someone mentioned here that this album has no standout tracks. I recommend "Dream On" as a fast-paced rocker with an instant chorus that will simply blow you away; "Far From Over" as one of the best 5 songs of the eighties, and "In the Twilight" as the ballad you should be listening whenever you're making a baby. How's that for standouts? I won't even mention the rest of the album, as you should go buy it and see for yourselves.

Both band's releases are pretty worth in all the extension of the word..their second one is a bit more consistent, solid, this debut is more into the "poppy" side of AOR..still good though..."Dream On","Far From Over"(nice),"Never Give Up","Under The Moonlight"(nice),"Missing Persons" & "You're For Me" are top notch songs 4 sure..shamely this phenomenal band only lasted 4 two albums ...get it!.91/100

very good debut for BOULEVARD with a massive keyboard driven sound and those quality vocals that really make things quite classy!i d prefer a more balanced sound between guitars & keys but you cant go wrong with songs like "dream on","far from over","never give up","you and i " and "you re for me"!highly recommended

This is a classic (the next one is too, and I think "Luminiscence is going to be a classic if we give things a little time). Seems like Boulevard took the best of canadian acts like Glass Tiger, Climmie Fisher, etc and added their own unique elements (those keyboards, David Forbes´voice and that amazing saxophone) to create what we call the "Blvd" style. Listen to the intro of "Dream On" and you can find some influences from the song "Closer to you" by Glass Tiger or that intro of "Far From Over" which is very similar to that of "Love changes everything" by Climmie Fisher, but they´re real gems though. Other great songs in this album are "Missing persons"(I love the way David Forbes and Andrew Johns complement each other vocally) and "You´re for me". You cannot call yourself and AOR connoisseur if you haven´t appreciated this album the way it should be

When you're in the pure AOR mood, these guys are perfect. Great passionate vocals, excellent sound (which is often the case with Mike Fraser and Bob Rock at the mixing desk) and great songs. If you like FM, Strangeways, Signal, Journey, Toto, Speedwagon, Dare, Survivor and such bands, you will love Boulevard. Average rating is right now 89 (if removing a few ratings of only 1), so a popular AOR album. "BLVD" gave us two hit singles/videos: ”Never Give Up” and “Far From Over”, but all songs are solid. Second CD is just as good by the way.

Well yes, with both Fraser and Rock sound is HUGE, superb in every department. Shame they did not have a better/more powerful label and manager behind them, since killer disc. Love it similarly to early FM and Strangeways, Heartland and os on.
