Highly recommended album! One of the best of the 90's!

From: Migas Man Date: August 28, 2001 at 8:54
Hey, mate! Dne of the best, sure is, but of the 80's.

From: Harvey Date: November 16, 2001 at 9:01
Well written, well played. Great vocals. Style. Class. Paul Sabu. Major label production. Well sequenced........totally ignored by almost everyone!!!

From: Saleem Date: February 18, 2002 at 16:25
A perfect blend of Metal and harmony without sacrificing the integrity of heavy rock and roll. More like Greg Guiffria but Paul Sabu did a great job. Classy guitar riffs and overall serious work.

From: koogles Date: February 28, 2002 at 20:32
The best Sammy Hagar solo album the Red Rocker NEVER recorded. Rare but worth spending the dog food money.

From: RAFA Date: July 24, 2002 at 16:32
Absolute Masterpiece.

From: David Date: July 25, 2002 at 1:02
These guys have another cd called Only Child 2. I think it's also very expensive.

From: rene engelaan Date: October 13, 2002 at 6:00
To me this album is not one of the best from the 80s. Its not bad, but not the best AOR album ever.

From: Trick Taylor Date: January 15, 2003 at 17:59
At the risk of having an AOR hit squad after my ass I must say this release is hard for me to listen to. I had the tape years back, lost it, and found the disc used for $6 last month. I bought it because I couldn't pass up the novelty aspect. The songs are glossy not ballsy. Sappy, not angry. Generally boring, toned down, bad Sammy Hagar/Journey/Guffria by product. I understand Mr. Sabu has quite the following. "Always" was a good ballad, "Just Ask" was OK, scrap the rest.

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 19, 2003 at 15:45
the best album paul sabu ever did.nuff said.

From: TellNoTales Date: January 30, 2003 at 0:11
This cd sucks most Paul sapo is a very bad singer

From: Marky.B Date: May 20, 2003 at 12:23
Well, dead men tell no tales, brother. I can only bestätigen that Paul Sabu is one of the greatest singers in rock music!

From: Magnus Date: September 7, 2003 at 7:52
If you like the Alexa cd you'll love this one..Great stuff!!

From: Date: March 11, 2004 at 14:10

Muy buen trabajo de Hard AOR de los 80

From: Axe Machine Date: May 13, 2004 at 9:00
I have never been one to completely trash albums, but this is the biggest waste of money i have ever poured into an AOR album. Described as classic by some, I have to say that the vocals are average and the songs are well below par. Not the classic that I expected at all.

From: AOR freaky Date: May 13, 2004 at 10:11
Axe Machine : I agree this is not a classic at all, but that bad it ain't ! Decent melodic hardrock !

From: erik Date: May 13, 2004 at 13:08
have to agree with rob. best ever done by paul sabu. end of discussion.

From: Rockhead Date: May 13, 2004 at 13:45
Is this better than Heartbreak or Kidd Glove? I actually prefer those 2 releases as i think the sonwriting is stronger. Not that this is bad (unlike the applalling follow up ) because it isn't-IMHO this dosn't hold up as well.

Still one of my favourites of the genre, and one that gets a regular workout here. Used to be a big fave amongst lots of people, now it seems to take a bit of a bashing on various boards. Doesn't get much better than 'Always', 'I Believe In You' & 'Shot Heard Around The World'. Definately better than the 'Kidd Glove' album and just beats the 'Heartbreak' cd in my view.

From: TIM (2) Date: May 25, 2004 at 4:41
Don't agree this is the best ever released by Paul Sabu, as the Alexa CD is that. It also has a better production and much better vocals. I love "Always" and "Save a Place in you Heart", and "I Believe in You" is ok, the rest is average. Like the second Only Child CD. P.s. This has just had a re-issue and is now available at a reasonable price.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 2:35
I don't understand the repuation of Paul Sabu. What exactly has he done that deserves him his cult aor status? This sounds like Sammy Hagar singing bad Journey tunes. Having said that, "I Believe In You" is a fantastic aor anthem. 3/10

From: Fabio Date: August 5, 2004 at 5:52
In my opinion one of all time AOR /Hard rock classics.Absolute to buy!

From: Nanteau Date: October 12, 2004 at 14:27
I don't quite like the singer's voice.. but that's a question of taste. Due to the fact that in almost the same time WAYSTED with SAVE YOUR PRAYERS came out as a rerelease I prefer that (Vaugn's voice is stronger and more powerful as the songs are). --However, still one of the best AOR/ Hard Rock albums coming from America (..and there are not many out there I like and have much quality; even if you're punishing me now guys )

From: Nanteau Date: October 15, 2004 at 10:32
--Well, guys, best songs here are I REMEMBER THE NIGHT (good chorus arrangement !!) and I BELIVE IN YOU . The rest is very good AOR but not a "Must have" .

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: November 9, 2004 at 0:56
OTRO DE ESOS TANTOS BUENOS ALBUMS DE FINALES DE LOS 80, UN HARD MELODICO/AOR CON BUENOS TEMAS. I Believe in You Y Save a Place in Your Heart SON LOS TEMAS QUE MAS SOBRESALEN.

From: Geoff Date: December 7, 2004 at 4:31
'Always' is an excellent song - melodic rock perfection. --- I might go do some sewing and play chess now... oh, there's other songs on this CD? Sorry I didn't notice! Sorry guys, I'm being very lame tonight, and that's amazing coming from me as I've not known a time when I've not been lame, but IMO this is just crap to be honest. 'Always' is great and 'Save a place in your heart' is okay, but I do not understand the Sabu hype. To me it's below average standard hard rock for the most part.

From: Erik Date: January 19, 2005 at 10:49
"Always". The perfect melodic rock song ? Maybe there is no such thing as perfect but this gets sooooooooooooo close ;cool;

From: MikeL Date: January 19, 2005 at 18:11
It took me a long time to get this one. Always and I Wanna Touch are great AOR tunes with solid hooks. However, the rest of this cd had me wanting more like those two tunes. If you find it at a reasonable price get it, but don't overspend.

From: Date: January 28, 2005 at 4:58

From: cesar Date: January 4, 2006 at 18:30
¿3/10? vaya ganas de dar la nota tiene alguno.discazo, solo con "love to the limit" pasa el corte

From: manicmurderdoll Date: April 25, 2006 at 18:22
I only have one song off this album, "Rebel Eyes", but if that is an indication, this album freaking rocks! Plain old kick ass metal, no hype, no image, just damn good music. Now I gotta find the whole album and decide if they are up to par.

From: Erik Date: April 26, 2006 at 17:06
Manicmurderdoll trust me. This album has tons of good songs. I just bought the album online in Germany. For only 10 euros. Amazing album. There is really not a bad song on it. And reading you love Valentine, as i do, you will eat this baby up as well ( altho different from Valentine ). Just ask, Always, Shot around the world, Save a place in your heart are spectacular songs. 9/10 this one.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 4, 2007 at 19:24
Great album by a great musician!!!.The talent of Mr Sabu at its highest in this album."Always" and "Save a place in your Heart" are timeless pieces of jewelry that will never be shadowed.By the way there's an alternative cover for this album only with the band's logo. The songs? 10/10 straight to your face!!!

From: hair metal again Date: August 28, 2009 at 13:55
this is definitely big.i mean it is anexcellent hair metal release by paul sabu and his band.catchy choruses, nice guitar, lots of keyboards ,big hair and many hits like"always","i remember the night","ibelieve in you","save a place in your heart".paul sabu does everything and prooves that he has always been a hard rock hero.only child s debut seems perfect

From: 123charpenay Date: March 6, 2012 at 13:17
excellent work from mister paul sabu.no fillers only killers.all songs are great no problem.i recommand the reissue cause the two bonus tracks are two bombs!!!!

From: 123charpenay Date: September 30, 2020 at 16:20
i recommand the new rock candy s reissue with four bonus tracks.

From: Auslander Date: April 20, 2021 at 12:29
I have this, but in my collection it is more like a Middle Child and gets ignored and forgotten about as I don't find it very demanding or memorable at all. Graded C.
