What an outstanding effort from John and his friends. A melodic metal must have. Great great work. Favorites on this are...Let Me Love You,Love Is Meant To Last Forever,Eternal Flame & Back On the Streets. Hard to say this is his best work but I find myself playing this more than his other stuff.

From: Mike Date: March 26, 2002 at 15:43
However we condsidering, Goran has the better voice...

From: Friday 13th Date: May 23, 2002 at 5:28
Guitar God, this guy rocks with the best and is totally under-rated. His guy is a great singer as well and this is a must for any Swedish metalhead, which has plenty of catchy riffs and awesome guitar solo's. Buy all of his album there killer stuff!!

From: The Prophet Date: May 23, 2002 at 9:41
Well, this is very good. Great Epic hard rock between Europe and Malmsteen. His second effort is very good too. Then, from "Another destination"(the third) to his last album(the fifth) He totally lost me, because He try to sound more blues and more raw, something close to thin Lizzy. My favs here are Someone else here and Love is meant to last forever (this one sound much like The final countdown)

From: Tony Date: July 31, 2002 at 12:06
A "10" for the guitar playing alone on this album. This guy is fantastic. You have to ignore though that "Love Is Meant To Last.." is "The Final Countdown" re-written with different lyrics and some cheesy lyrics abound throughout this disc. Great melodic guitar driven album with a COMPLETE 80's vibe but comes across as more of a fun vibe than a annoying dated one.

From: Kim Date: July 31, 2002 at 12:37
I remember buying this cd. Damn its good. He was the best musician in Europe. All his cd`s are superb. Could we have more from him on Heavyharmonies.???? It s a RAW guitar release this one. Highly recommended. I`ll give it 8 out of 10 `Grinzzz`

From: robert Date: October 22, 2002 at 10:15

From: Erci Carr Date: November 1, 2002 at 10:25
esta muy guapo este album si señor, destacables la version de Vinnie Vincent "Back on the streets2 mas melodica que la original, muy guapo

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: December 3, 2002 at 9:29

From: Metal_Warrior Date: January 4, 2003 at 0:00
A really awesome cd,with some of the best Goran Edman performances, and John's best solos.Better than any Europe album imo.Go buy it now!!!

From: Great Dane Date: January 4, 2003 at 20:10
Did so Metal Warrior, when it came out. Its still a favorite of mine. Good album......Ehhh by the way. Norum`s solos on the Europe cd`s were never bad. The tracks might have been, but never the solos.

From: jarett r. Date: January 19, 2003 at 8:03
before dokken, john norum recorded with eddie meduza and the roaring cadillacs.

From: alejandro Date: April 11, 2003 at 15:46
LEJOS DE SER LO BUENO QUE MUCHOS DICEN, NORUM REPITE EN FORMA MUCHOS CLICHES DE LO QUE FUE "THE FINAL COUNTDOWN",INCLUSO LA VOZ SUNA MUY A LA JOEY TEMPEST. LO EXTRAÑO ES QUE REPITE LA FORMULA DE UNA BANDA A LA QUE ABANDONO POR DIFERENCIA MUSICALES, QUE EN ESTE CD,NO SOLO NO SE NOTAN SINO QUE ES MUY PARECIDO AL CITADO ALBUM DE EUROPE. TAN SOLO CORRECTO,BIEN HECHO,EJECUTADO,PERO NADA QUE TE VUELE LOS SESOS.6/10. carro_martin2000@yahoo.com.ar

LOVE IS MEANT....TO LAST FOREVER!!!..... WHAT A SONG !! THIS GUY KICKS ASS, BUT THEN ITS DIFFICULT TO SAY WHO'S THE BEST AXE-MAN COMING FROM SWEDEN...HIM? KEE MARCELLO? OR YNGWIE? THANK YOU JOHNNIE FOR THIS ALBUM

From: Date: April 21, 2003 at 12:30
This guys has always rocked!!!!!!!! John definately kicked ass in Dokken, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: purrfect-kat Date: May 22, 2003 at 4:50
Band plays ok but the vocals lack emotion/energy.

From: FOTIS Date: August 7, 2003 at 2:40
THE DEFINITION OF SWEDISH MELODIC HARD N'HEAVY!EXCELLENT GUITAR PLAYING BY JOHN AND A STUNING PERFORMANCE BY GORAN.IN ETERNAL FLAME HE SHOWS HIS ADMIRATION FOR YNGWIE'S PLAYING BUT THATS THAT!JOHN HAS HIS OWN STYLE.THIS ALBUM SHOULD'VE BEEN THE PROCEDOR TO FINAL COUNTDOWN...BUT WHAT THE HELL!

From: RR-Finland Date: September 24, 2003 at 16:01
Really good record from ex-Europe guitarist. John Norum´s guitar melodies are really great to listen (check out Don Dokken´s "Up From The Ashes" too) and I think this album has he´s best tunes from solo career!

From: Metal_Warrior Date: November 28, 2003 at 19:50
Trully excellent cd. Goran Edman makes the difference.

From: K.K. Poland Date: February 11, 2004 at 12:01
Fantastic solo album by Europe's guitarists. Fantastic catchy choruses, great tunes, 10/10

From: TIM (2) Date: July 7, 2004 at 4:22
As much as I probably loved Europe more without Norum more than with him, this is a superb debut solo outing. Goran Edman has never sounded as good as this since, and so long as you don't mind each track ending with 2 minutes of guitar widdling, if you love scandi melodic rock this is essential. Not sure where the track "Wild One" comes from as it's not on my album. Brilliant songs, stunning guitar work. Buy this, but don't bother with his others...

From: Marky Date: August 26, 2004 at 17:13

From: BUDZILLLA Date: November 24, 2004 at 14:44
I,personally feel this is NORUMS Best of all his SOLO EFFORTS!!!! Although, being such a huge fan of his playing!!! I always buy his cds, hopeing they will sound like TOTAL CONTROL,but not as of Yet!!!! Along with Goran Edmans Signature vocals,This will always be a tuff act to follow!!! I can honestly say I can appreciate Johns playing on all his EFFORTS!!! THIS one is A MUST for ANY MELODIC METAL COLLECTION!!! Also, DOKKENS UP FROM THE ASHES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS WELL, FOR THE TRUE JN FAN!!

This is one of the reasons why John Norum disappoints so much these days, because we know what he is capable of. This is a great melodic rock album with obvious hints toward Europe and I'd also mention Glory. 'Love is meant to last forever', 'Back on the streets' and 'We'll do what it takes together' are my faves, but this is a good and solid release overall. Recommended.

From: Giouri_G Date: February 5, 2005 at 10:08
The first time i listened to this album i felt like I 've hit by a train!! Fuck what an album! The first two tracks and the cover of Vinnie Vincent's Ivasion ("Back On The Streets") are my favs but all the other tracks are great also...His Best work along with "Face the Truth"

From: onemorecast Date: March 3, 2005 at 23:13
I have this on cassette. I prefer John's voice to the other guy. The Thin Lizzy cover is pretty cool.

From: mauricio Date: July 21, 2005 at 13:41
este fue el disco que mas me ha costado conseguir ya que este como los demas en centroamerica no se consigue y tampoco creo que en suramerica haya de estar disponible temas como LET ME LOVE YOU-LOVE IS MEANT TO LAST FOREVER-SOMEONE ELSE HERE-WE LL DO WHAT IT TAKES TOGETHER-TOO MANY HEARTS-BLIND ,en si todo esl disco esta muy completo y aqui JOHN NORUM se atrevio a hacer una continuacion del poderoso THE FINAL COUNTDOWN pero a su manera, una pena que nuestro JOHN les haya dado la patada a EUROPE

From: mauricio Date: July 21, 2005 at 13:46

From: rocknroll Date: August 10, 2005 at 16:08
This is a good album, heavier than Europe's style

From: Axe-Machine Date: November 15, 2005 at 15:50
Well, this is a good album, but could have been great had John let his ego take a back seat and let Goran Edman grace every track with his super slick vocals. As it stands, Love Is Meant To Last Forever (or The Final Countdown with more guitars) is by far the best track as Edman lets his vocals reach the hights he hit on Malmsteen's Eclipse album. Let Me Love You and Back On The Streets also standout as highlights, but once again, Edman's voice on the whole thing would have improved it. 7/10.

From: Liger Date: November 16, 2005 at 2:01
Totally agree with you Axe. Norum is great with his guitar but Goran's vocals are million years better....tracks like 1 and 10 deserved Edman's golden throat!! I listened to some tapes about the Total Control tour and Edman was superb, on Europe's Heart of stone he sang at the same livel than J.Tempest.

From: osklenn Date: March 24, 2006 at 14:47

From: speed demon Date: March 30, 2006 at 14:30
Excellent album! Plenty of great guitar work! I agree heavier than Europe! A well rounded hard rock album. One your collection should have in it! Highly recommended!

From: wzcj02 Date: July 19, 2006 at 16:52
More than a touch of the Europe sound on some tracks, possibly left over tracks from Europe. At least 2 covers here, back on the streets is the same as the Vinnie Vincent Invasion version. Album is not bad but a bit overated by accounts above.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: September 30, 2006 at 15:55

From: onemorecast Date: June 19, 2007 at 1:09
He wanted to get away from Joey Tempest and do his own thing, but it sounded just like Europe. The last 2 Europe albums with John back in the band have been pretty good.

From: shark attack Date: July 15, 2007 at 12:38
Wow,Europe really held this guy back, this is a far heavier beast than his former band, have to agree that Goran Edman`s vocals would have suited the entire CD better. Fave trax have to be Love Is Meant To Last Forever and Eternal Flame(John really shreds here)kinda notice a late 70`s early 80`s hard rock vibe on some of the tracks(check out the Zepplinisms on Blind)and i can pick up on a THIN LIZZY influence too. Production could have been better but overall a strong 7/10.

From: VICE Date: October 14, 2007 at 14:25
After both John Norum & Tony Reno was gone from Europe they were loosing it totally, everything just falled done in my opinion but Tony Reno went on to Geisha & John Norum did a fantastic solo album that's at least as good as Europe´s first 3 albums! John's not a Yngwie Malmsteen that makes 300 minutes long guitar solos on every tune, this is the REAL DEAL! Buy it, you wont be dissapointed!

From: DANTE Date: November 29, 2007 at 10:32
ME LO HE PILLADO EN VINILO EN LA FERIA DEL DISCO DE BARCELONA (9 DE NOVIEMBRE). IMPRESIONANTE. A MÍ ES QUE GORAN EDMAN ME PUEDE. Y JOHN NORUM ESTÁ EXTRAORDINARIO. POR ALGO ME ENCANTA THE FINAL OF COUNTDOWN. ES UN DISCAZO, QUITANDO LA BAZOFIA DE CANCIÓN QUE DA TÍTULO AL ALBUM, EL RESTO SON DE ÓRDAGO: NINJA, CHEROKEE, ROCK THE NIGHT... INMENSO

From: sebastian08 Date: October 1, 2008 at 4:14
Very good album. Songs are good and guitar solos super. My favourite songs; "Love Is Meant To Last Forever", "Eternal Flame", "We'll Do What It Takes Together" and "Let Me Love You"... 90/100

From: Footstomp Date: January 30, 2009 at 9:26
Great Album! ”Love Is Meant To Last Forever” is out of this world. A “must have album” at all costs.

From: andi Date: December 31, 2010 at 16:38
A wonderful melodic-hardrock album with feeling songs great guitars and a great voice!!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 22, 2011 at 19:23
Good heading to a very good debut!!! ...agree with the Thin Lizzy comparisson...my fave ones are "Let Me Love You","Too Many Hearts"(isn't it this one a cover??? ),"Someone Else Here","Eternal Flame"(superb!) & "Blind" (catchy)...87/100

From: 123charpenay Date: October 10, 2012 at 13:17
two fillers one this record.track 3 a poor ballad and track 10 an instrumental without interest.if you erase these two songs you have a top class scandi hard fm.surprise john norum is an excellent singer.he is a master of course of the six strings.a man who play guitar with europe and don dokken could not be bad.the japan import have eleven songs with the great bonus track (acoustic and electric)wild one (cover of thin lizzy).

From: hair metal again Date: December 24, 2016 at 10:00
superb debut for JOHN NORUM and a classic of that era with big songs and production!his sound is somewhere between EUROPE and MALMSTEEN and with songs like "let me love you","love is meant to last forever","back on the streets" and "we ll do what it takes together" this got a lot of airplay when it was realeased!excellent release indeed

From: titothetitan Date: October 20, 2017 at 8:08
Indeed a great debut album. Great guitars, great vocals (by both) and lots of killer songs. 1,2,3,4,6,11 are my favourites. His late albums aren't as good.

From: 123charpenay Date: September 29, 2020 at 16:34
i recommand the rock candy s reissue with 6 bonus tracks.remastered so the sound is far better than the original.
