Everyone into late 80's hard rock...get this album....screw aht u have heard...these guyz ROCK!!!! trust me....quote the WidoMakr...never more

From: Rycheage Date: February 28, 2002 at 23:09
I must agree with WidowMakr. This CD does rock. 'Ready to Rock' and 'Lost In The Wild' are as good as anything released in the 80's. 'Sleepless Nights' is a top notch ballad. Bottom line: get this CD NOW!!!!!

From: WidoMakr Date: March 1, 2002 at 21:48
Thanks Rycheage....Since u like Melidian check out a band named Fifth Angel (esp 1st album) and Icon (right between the eyes)...I can almost promise u will not be dissapointed...Quote the WidoMakr....never more

From: Ron Date: March 22, 2002 at 20:47
Where did these guys come from and more importantly where did they go! What a great CD! Can't really compare them to anyone as they have their own sound. 'Hands off' should have been a smash hit. 'Lost in the wild' and most of the other songs should have been FM hits. This is indeed a lost rock treasure. Buy it if you find it.

From: WidoMakr Date: March 23, 2002 at 2:34
Ron..nice to see someone appreciates music in the same vain as me...Saw them back in the day in NYC...great great band...people have said Cade's voice isnt up to par with the rest of the band PLEASE!!!...they are/were simply a great sounding band..by the way I love Hands Off and Ready to Rock..hell the entire album rips.....u got a minute email me....kyle96@optonline.com Quote the WidoMakr....Never more

From: Andre Tekken Date: July 23, 2002 at 10:31
I recently put my hands on this one, very classy late 80's pomp rock!Melodic hard riffing guitars, reminds me a bit of Dokken riffing!Keybords like dropping sparkling notes on the songs plus stumping drums! The only aspect I think I should mention is that the vocals are too gritty to me.But somehow instead of regular vocals it gave an exotic touch to the songs!'Broken Toys'such a beautiful unusual beautiful song !Ahnn, could Cade sing properly live? If anyone knows plese write about it!I'm courious!

From: WidoMakr Date: July 23, 2002 at 20:44
Andre...they are a great great band...some have sid the vocals are the only weak point on the album..I say BS...they were fun to see live...very energetic and had alot of fun on stage....Jason..seeing how u know so much..help out...I cant find too much on Cade since Melidian..u know anything? Quote the WidoMakr....Never more

From: Andre Tekken Date: July 24, 2002 at 12:30
Thanks WidoMaKr for the answer!I have been recently visiting this site, writting comments for the bands, and I saw your reviews,I must say that you have good taste for music!Quite similar to mine! But did Chris sing properly live?

From: WidoMakr Date: July 27, 2002 at 18:42
Andre...to be honest with you its been 10+ years since the concert...BUT I know if the vocals by Chris would have blown I would have remembered (I think..hehe) anyway...I remember the band having a great sound on stage and also seeming to really enjoy playing in front of crowds...abet not stadium size but...I wish they would reform and put out another album...long long shot at best unfortunately....thanks for the comment...Quote the WidoMakr....never more

One of my 10 favorites: Melidian, Aces High, Fate, Dalton, Da Vinci, Alien, Return, Lillian Axe, Praying Mantis, 220 Volt!!!!!!!!!!

From: Funwolf Date: August 9, 2002 at 16:20
But number 1 is uncontested: *****Swedish erotica*****

From: roxoff Date: August 19, 2002 at 18:03
well! what a bloody let down this was. it just never gets going and the vocals are so poor. there is no real thought that has gone into the music and this doesnt hold up against the likes of lillian axe, fate, treat etc....nah it does nothing for me so its going on ebay!

From: TIM Date: August 19, 2002 at 18:07
Luckilly I sampled that one on audiogalaxy before I bought it. Hopefully you get your money back on Ebay.

I found their website (of sorts), its small but it has some stuff. www.hometown.aol.com/obstaclerecords

I know the bassist (Dave Clak Howell). Nice guy. Good guitarist.

From: Jay Date: November 1, 2002 at 16:30
Actually this guy from Madrid recomended me this CD and hell It blew my mind!!! Great eighties Hard Rock and a must

From: Precious1 Date: November 7, 2002 at 20:20
David Clark Howell definitely rocks. He puts his heart and soul into his music and it shows. To get to know him is to hear him play. Can't wait for his independent album.

From: Trick Taylor Date: December 20, 2002 at 22:19
I just found a promo copy of this cd featuring Grandpa from the Munsters printed on the cd itself. (bought it today, $4) A hard Guffria with limited vocal range. Typical 80's 'do we want to rock or do we want to be Night Ranger' type of record. For a major label this got NO press back in the day. Hell, even Saraya had some Hit Parader love! The slip cover is gone but the disc is flawless. I will sell for a tidy profit or file next to Jagged Edge UK (another loser band).

From: WidoMakr Date: December 21, 2002 at 1:09
Trick..first off I love Melidian (see posts) Funny story...I work in NYC..one day at noon grandpa is out petitioning..i go up and like an idiot say hello grandpa vs. Al Lewis..whatever..I say what r u doing? he says getting people to sign a petition to legalize POT!. He still looks almost the same from the day of the Munsters..Was BS'n with him for 1/2hr. I periodically smoke cigars...he had one in his mouth...started again BS'n about them..he goes in his pocket and gives me one (not used)Cont..

From: WidoMakr Date: December 21, 2002 at 1:15
So..not to insult him I light it up...BS'n another 1/2 hr...ALOT of people are signing..hehe and looking at me like who the hell is this guy talking to Grandpa like he was his long lost cousin...anyway was a very cool guy...DEFINITELY doesnt act his age....said goodbye after over an hr with him...gave me a place he hangs out to look him up...again very cool guy and FUNNY...quote The WidoMakr....never more

From: Mendiburu Date: January 17, 2003 at 20:19
Iīm totally amazed by this album. I would like to know what are this guys doing right now. Do they have any other projects??

From: freddy de keyze Date: February 20, 2003 at 13:41
Great melodic hard rock (not metal or pomp rock guys !) and a must for lovers of this kind of stuff ! Great songs, fine production and not a bad singer at all. He's no ace, but does his job. A shame we didn't get a second CD from these guys, but that's the case with many great bands !

From: Magnus Date: September 7, 2003 at 7:43
In my opinion this is AOR.Like a male version of Witness I think..Great cd!!

From: Frankie NYC Date: February 22, 2004 at 0:01
Hey everyone, this was a great debut record , Overheated was excellent, something that could still be listened to today, just as good as Faster PussyCat or Cinderella or any band that was popular, Broken Toys was definitely an original, Ready to Rock hooked me in, Sleepless Nights I was sold

From: jessica96fish Date: February 28, 2004 at 10:59
if your into bands like.lillian axe gunshy baton rouge.then this ones for you great cd.summertime disc.party on doods.

From: 80sMetal1 Date: April 16, 2004 at 15:58
Great band and definitely very underrated. They're from New York City and used to play around here all the time. Funny story: A friend of mine saw Eddie Wohl (the keyboardist) at the local strip club and went up to him and said 'I really wish the DJ would play some Melidian right about now.' Eddie was practically floored!

From: rocketron Date: May 25, 2004 at 9:09
Not the best vocals in the world but made up for by killer riffs especially on 'Overheated'.

From: Jonny_B Date: September 3, 2004 at 16:38
I remember seeing a music video for one of the songs when I was a kid, but I didn't remember the band. 15 years later, a copy of the video pops up in my bro's collection and I find out they're Melidian. The next day, I find a copy for $2 at the local music store bargain bin. For me, Melidian not really a standout hard rock album, but it's a solid effort.

From: Geoff Date: September 5, 2004 at 2:34
I cannot speak highly enough of this album. Not only are there no fillers, but all 9 tracks are great. 'Ready to Rock' has one of the best hard rock riffs around and is a monster opener, 'Sleepless Nights' is an extremely beautiful ballad,'Hands Off' is another perfect riff-fueled hard rocker, as is the awesome 'Overheated', and 'Broken Toys' is a truly stunning ballad. Both ballads really stand out, but the riff driven ones there amaze too. Awesome hard rock release!

From: AOR freaky Date: September 5, 2004 at 7:54
Hi Geoff, we agree on this one ! Not one of my top faves, but certainly a strong US melodic hardrock release !

From: kiko Date: October 26, 2004 at 9:22
this album is just great, great tracks here! if u find the cd, buy it, it worths !!

From: detective Date: December 8, 2004 at 21:04
The singer for this band sounds like 'Froggy' from the Little Rascals show, minus the sex appeal. Keyboard polluted, horrid production, generic songs... I honestly don't know what these other people are hearing in this thing. Poor, poor, poor.

From: z4roxx Date: December 12, 2004 at 15:07
HEY DETECTIVE!!AFTER FIRST LISTENING I WAS AS YOUR IDEA ABOUT IT BUT...YOU MUST HEAR THIS CD MORE TIMES...I TELL YOU THAT YOU'LL LOVE IT...TASTE MY OPINION....

From: z4roxx Date: December 22, 2004 at 20:52
WHAT A REALLY GREAT CD!!YOU'LL FIND THE KEYBOARD'S MAN IN BARAKADE,ANOTHER GREAT BAND!!!

From: Jonny_B Date: January 20, 2005 at 21:39
Actually, I thought the keys saved this album. If hard rock fans resent grunge people dissing the hair metal scene, try being a keyboardist reading detective's comments. I put up with twice the flack from both genres.

From: detective Date: January 23, 2005 at 21:54
I have no problem with keyboards in heavy music per se, but it shoud be things like piano, Hammond B3, atmospherics, etc., not cheezy immediately outdated synth that douses the sound like a wet blanket. Sorry if being an ivory tinkler is such a thankless position, but in this case, it's just way too much ham and not enough beef.

From: z4roxx Date: January 23, 2005 at 22:10
Hey detective, try to listen a christian band called Barakade, that's the same guy on keyboards(we have here different name on keys but I'm quite certain he's the same person),I think in that band he sounds more as you wrote below than to this one. What a f*****g great stuff Melidian!Maybe the singer is not one of my fave but the guys rock! Also Barakade is another outstandin'work, very catchy and well produced melodick hard rock/aor...

From: rocky Date: January 24, 2005 at 1:28
the keys here are perfect, thanks.

From: SeducedByMetal Date: February 21, 2005 at 1:02
These Guyz Are Fantastic..Track 2 Livin' Under The Gun And Track 7 Overheated are Simply Awesome Songz..I Love The Hint Of Keys They Use In The Tracks In This Album...No Fillers Here...Track After Track Of Terriffic Melodic Rock...

From: StarCity Rocker Date: March 9, 2005 at 9:08
This band was criminally underrated in their time. They had the perfect formula for late 80s hard rock. Great mix of keyboards and guitars. The first 4 tracks are the strongest of the album, even though there are no bad ones in the bunch. These guys should have made it further. If you like 80s metal, you'll love Melidian. Simple as that.

From: jfox66 Date: March 15, 2005 at 0:26
The singer used to be in a band from NYC called Hellion. They had to change their name because there was a band in California (Ann Bolyn's HELLION) using the name. NYC Hellion became CADE 88 which in turn evolved into MELIDIAN. By the way, BROKEN TOYS is one of the best ballads I've evr heard in my life. And as far as Cade's voice goes, it fit the music perfectly. Still pull this out and listen to it quite often. Has stood the test of time.

From: Bobby De Date: April 15, 2006 at 17:39
God, I can't stand those AOR pussies, they allways rave about the most lame shit, and when they get one albm that is a little harder they come on and obiviously knock it...or they disappear on it. I don't see how you can rave about John Wait and crap like that when you have a whole world of cool ass 80's glam and heavy metal! What is wrong with these snakes? Go back to the dry desert of no killer high end vocals and awesome guitar riffs and pounding drums...80's Metal forever!

From: SangreAzulForever Date: November 6, 2006 at 18:24
If youīre into bands like Icon, Fifth Angel or Mastedon you will really enjoy this album. The only drawback is the voice of the singer... I donīt really like it at all, I thing this guy canīt have eaten eggs in his whole life or maybe he has smoked too much tobacco. I would have proposed Rob Rock as their frontman if that could have been possible. The music though will make you headbang until death, it sounds like a hardened Dokken. 8/10.

From: Mustaine_TW Date: November 7, 2006 at 8:33
For me it's not very good record, but it did have some catchy songs like 'Sleepless Nights', the first song 'Ready To Rock' can be watched on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ1tgwY8FCU

From: metalhead4life Date: February 27, 2007 at 1:07
Very good late 80's hard rock; catchy and has bite; no fluffy duffy wuffy wussy shit here(well alright, maybe just a LITTLE); yep, like others said - hints of Dokken and later Icon; I like the vocalist; he does remind me of David Lee Roth with a harder edge. But regardless of all that, this band did have their own sound, good musicians, and some good songs. Definitely recommended for 80's rock fans; it's good to find a lost gem on a commercial label(helps production which is great on here). 8/10

From: Henrykane Date: May 15, 2007 at 10:58
BRAVO DADDO!!! My Italian friend here means this is one of the best CLASS METAL ALBUMS of all times. And when we Italian hard n'heavy rockers say it's a CLASS METAL album...it's an over the top de-luxe rock masterpiece with pounding drums, chromium-plated guitar riffs and AOR-heaven choruses!!!! Who does not own this album is got no class and no taste for hard rock!. Hey, Melidian guys, come back together...please!!!

From: kipvanpearcy Date: September 29, 2007 at 11:02
What a good surprise, this is definitely some great 80's hard rock with big choruses and nice riffs. Plus, the vocals are not that bad. Worth the price!

From: ARAMIS Date: November 4, 2007 at 17:33
IT'S A GREAT CD.ONE OF THE BEST.

From: Rick Thunder Date: December 28, 2008 at 12:22
I'ts an excellent Hard Rock band, very solid, execellent sound, great tunes, great solos, they have the hard rock formula, I bought their cd the last week on e-bay, maybe it will be arriving on monday. 'Ready To Rock' and 'Livin' Under The Gun' are the best tracks

From: Niglin Date: January 11, 2009 at 17:07
Roxoff & Detective. Obviously you prefer a taste of the bland and generic, get your head outta your anuses. This thread has turned into a blog about a great band, we have a democracy in this country, and you have defeated. I suggest you stick to bands like Bon Jovi, something your chick pea brain may understand.

This album has to be in the top 100 albums.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 17, 2010 at 20:52
Very good album,it remindes me of a band called Silent Rage and some of the Paul Sabu's solo material...the great moments of this album are the songs "Ready To Rock" with that epic sound and of course one of the highlights in here then "Livin' Under The Gun" is excellent by the 4 sides,"Fire Up The Heart" is very good Hard AOR,"Lost In The Wild" very good song,it rocks,"Overheated" is a cool track,"Top Of The Rock" a good ballad and "Broken Toys" another goodie per excelance..in general lines this album rocks hard!..just buy it!.90/100

From: Remastered Reason Date: January 1, 2011 at 22:25
A solid release from an era when hair metal still reigned king. Good news for anybody that cares. Rock Candy has reissued this & it sounds SWEEEEEEEEEEET. The music is hair metal all the way & the keys that are sprinkeled in are not a detraction. In fact, they enhance many of the tunes & elevate them to a greater status, giving them character & mood. The vocalist is gritty & definitely has a swagger to his approach. Overall, this is a sharp album.

From: Nick C Date: January 2, 2011 at 14:55
Just for a bit of history - Chris Cade used to be in a band called Hellion who released one album called Dangerous Maneuvers - which I think I still have somewhere (It had an unintentionally hilarious track on it called She Pumps or something like that). I should really get this re-release as I was kicking myself for not getting it when it originally came out.

From: kamd Date: December 2, 2011 at 5:49
have anyone know where they are now?

From: 123charpenay Date: December 2, 2011 at 10:32
hi kamd absoluty no idea.a shame that this extraordinary band make only one record.they have made a masterpiece one of the best hard fm record ever.a real jewel a must have.all serious fans of melodic rock have this jewel in their collection.

From: Leykis101 Date: March 9, 2012 at 12:25
this is one of those painstakingly lost one off cd's that got released at the tail end of the hair revolution, and the beggining of the shit music campaign, but probably released without any promotion, I know because the radio station in Utah used to play EVERYTHING!! I mean they played shit that you could literally never even find, shit that hadnt even came out yet, and sometimes never did and they still played it, never heard even a mention of this disc, would find out about it years later from a friend of mine, then found it in a cut out bin at Hastings for $5, I think its a complete gem, I dont recognize a track on this cd as a filler, I enjoy it from start to finish, stellar production work, leaning on big walls of chorus's, it borderlines over produced, it's a no brainer, if you love melodic hard rock, then youll not even think about it after you buy this, you'll be instantly gratified, trust me, get this!

From: Leykis101 Date: March 9, 2012 at 12:28
oh, BTW, the title track of this disc, is what I consider and classified as a full blown rock ANTHEM!!! not many songs i label as anthems, Lost In The Wild is without a doubt a 100% genuine rock anthem!!

From: Locoaor Date: July 12, 2013 at 0:03
Album de culto, una joya para todo amante del hard rock melodico de alto calibre, sin duda un disco fenomenal, los 2 primero temas son unos trallazos que te vuelan la tapa del cerebro, joya de joyas!

Genius Release. Music does not get better than this. One of the all time finest Rock albums. 100/100.

One of the best !

From: KermitTheFrog Date: January 12, 2024 at 2:18
Was rooting for this one because of the great album cover. A couple songs come close but don't quite hit ("Ready to Rock," "Sleepless Nights") but the last track saves the day ("Broken Toys").
