this is the best Sambora solo album and sounds AOR and a little Bluesy .He has a excelent voice even better than Jon Bon Jovi, the guitar work is very good, and Eric Clapton plays on one song with Richie. If you like AOR, you must to have it!!.

This is a MASTERPIECE, this is better than anything Jon Bon Jovi has ever been involved with, every song is amazing. This album is one of the best AOR albums ever! Richie has a fine voice and recommend it to any GIANT fan out there. This is the complete album. Stunning song writing with a very strong voice that wasn't anywhere to be seen with Bon Jovi. 10/10 for sure! Just when I thought GIANT will never be rivalled I have found the highest quality music that's up there in the GIANT ranks.

I'm not really into Bon Jovi's brand of midwestern rock but I must note that Richie Sambora is truly under employed........he's the stronger singer in the band and i figure the combination would do well for the Bon jovi camp.

I have to agree with all the people here. With this album Sambora kicked Bongiovies ass. This album is the best Bon Jovi album only Jon is not behind the mic, but nobody miss him.

Richie Sambora has a fantastic voice but it is really pathetic to say that JBJ sucks, they have totally different voices and plus, who said that Sambora does not sing in Bon Jovi. One of the trademarks of the band is the double vocals of Jon and Richie and how wonderfully they fit together in harmonies. Stranger in this town, is a great album with all killer tracks and no fillers. ESSENTIAL!!!

Why this guy's not fronting his own band is a crime in itself. The guy's got such a cool voice. The bigger cime however is the crap that Bon Jovi have put out over the years. They have to be one of the worst examples of this genre that i love.

Great bluesy rock album. Just as good as a lot of Bon Jovi's 90s stuff. "One Light Burning" is such a soulful and passionate ballad - greate lyrics and great musicianship. Richie really impressed me on this one. A must have for all Bon Jovi fans and anyone who likes great rock 'n roll.

"Father Time" is an awesome ballad and "Rosie" should have been on New Jersey. I have a bootleg demo of the New Jersey recording sessions and Jon's version is MUCH better!

Absolute classic this one.Richie stuns his fans with his beautiful voice along with his ,already known, songwriting talent.Very mature album with "Ballad of youth" as a highlight. If you claim you have a classic cd collection, this shouldn't be missing. PS:..yes he's better singer that JBJ but that's another story...

the solos here are increible, this guy plays guitar vbbetter that anyone, he plays better that Clapton, because he palys with the Clapton's feeling plus a lot better technique. This album rocks. Im a great fan og bon jovi's 80's and 90's era and this album stand with it.

Had my favourite tracks from this blaring in my vehicle a couple of nights ago and man did they sound good! 'Church of desire' is great, 'Ballad of youth' is a killer commercial hard rocker, and 'Rosie' is a killer hard rock song. Overall, I like some of the atmospheric ballads too and it's a pretty damn good release. Love those three songs though!

This is some excellent blues-inspired rock, on the commercial side, which is OK. "Church Of Desire", "Stranger In This Town", "Ballad Of Youth" and "One Light Burning" are my faves. Highly recommended for those who love blues rock.

Just re purchased this album after many years. This is one of the most beautiful rock albums of all time. Exceptional. I coudn't give 2 shits about Bon Jovi but this album alone is in my top 10 of all time right up there with Hysteria, Last of the Runaways and Hardline. Tremendous stuff.

An absolute must, not only for BON JOVI fans. Richie is a damn fine singer and has a lot of soul and feeling in his vocals. Musically it is bluesy and atmospheric at times, but definitely the songwriting shines all over. Quality!

I remember an interview, where Richie seemed almost bitter of the relatively poor sales of this great album. The label+manager Doc McGhee did let him release quite a few singles: 6 singles + 3 music videos. But still it did not reach gold status in US, whereas Blaze of glory fast did sell double platinum. Richie is awesome, killer voice and guitar style, but lately, he did not support Jon at the Person of the year award (a few hours he could have done IF he really wanted..), he talks about Jon making Bon Jovi his solo band and "is it possible to sing with a plastic thing" etc. By this implicitly sour attitude, I find it unlikely that he will get back to the band. He says he wants to, but acts in other way. Hopefully they can start to become friends again. Truth is, 11 years have passed and they don't ever hang out. Anyway, this is Richie's best album, and great sound. By the way, 123charpenay, I will indeed check out the "Live in San Diego 1991", sure! www.discogs.com/release/4972588

I can't blame Richie for being pissed. Blaze Of Glory was mostly crap after the first few songs. Stranger In This Town is way better, and Richie was every bit the singer Jon was. Six singles?! Damn! I only remember "Ballad Of Youth" and the title track.
|
From: Amy |

When Richie had it ALL and before he liked too much inhaling coke n booze, infidelity, that seemed to make him unhappy and later albums were more average. Him and Gene, both are sex addicts and became plastic surgery fans after dating Cher. This one, where even the second sorting song Rosie is fine, albeit way too many ballads, is where his blues style really came to fruition. The Hendrix bonus track/cover is good as well. MelodicRocker, I've noticed this as well, in his Hall of fame speech, very recent interviews, and so forth. Yet, he seems wanting to get into the BJ band again. Hard to be rich and famous, eh. Also, if you like this one, you will prefer These Days album, which is the closest the band ever sounded to Stranger In This Town. Bluesy stuff. And if you prefer pop and rock, the RSO Richie Sambora + Orianthi stuff is really good. Seems both Jon and Richie are no longer interested one bit in hard rock songs. Stryper did the opposite, which is amazing. Some go soft, some hard.
