HOW CAN ANYTHING SOUND THIS GOOD!!?Back in 1990,the vynil of this album was one of the first record I bought(I was 17 then)and it made me definitely a total, big, crazy, diehard,American Hair Band FAN!NOW I've got more than 600 ALBUMs of this WONDERFUL genre,I like them ALL but WARRANT has and will always have a special place in my Rock N' Roller heart! ('SURE FEELS GOOD TO MEEEEE!!!!')

From: Harvey Date: March 15, 2002 at 12:33
Definitely THE best album released in 1990.1:Fun party song(cherry pie),2:good lyrics and cool mood(uncle tom's cabin),3:beautiful ballad(i saw red),4:fine melodic rock and a good story too(bed of roses),5: DAMN ROCKER!(Sure feels good to me),6:Pure Rock N'Roll(Love in stereo),7:good semi- acoustic(blind faith),8:'poetry in motion' (song and dance man),9:A Hair Band anthem classic(you're the only hell...),10:Strong rythm/nice vocals(Mr Rainmaker),11:Groovy cover!(train train).WHO NEEDS MORE?!

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: April 2, 2002 at 10:18
For all the gloss, glitter and good times that give 'Warrent' a slick finish heres to ya!! For thats the quality that gave the band it's charm.'Heaven' had to be every teenage girls theme song in the summer of '89. My fav's have to be 'I Saw Red' for personal reasons.'Uncle Tom's Cabin' for the down home acoustic guitar and story based lyrics and all's it would take is just one time with Carmen Electra!!

From: Tony Date: April 18, 2002 at 9:26
One of the top 5 albums EVER during this period and for this genre of music. Classic pop-metal. If someone requested a album that encompassed that time and was indicative of the best that style of music had to offer I'd give then this cd. I bet this is tucked away in many people's record collection as a 'guilty pleasure'. If you don't own it why not??

From: curt Date: May 5, 2002 at 18:25
I have to agree this album was one of the finest and still is. Buy it.

From: dokken6008 Date: July 31, 2002 at 1:27
The parental advisory edition along with its inclusion of the 'Ode To Tipper Gore' is an added bonus. Those that own this cd know what I'm talking about. If you haven't listened to 'Cherry Pie' yet and don't even have the slightest idea as to what I'm talking about, just buy the cd. It is pretty solid for the most part (as far as 'hair-band' cds go).

From: Rockforever Date: August 11, 2002 at 15:33
Sorry to disagree with virtually everyone else here, but how can u people say this record is great? Warrant were, along with Poison, the prime exponents of trash-metal that dominated the late80s.With the exception of Uncle Toms Cabin (which is a good song),this is generic hair metal.Jani Lane was marginally better than Poison's Bret Michaels (not saying much i know),but Warrant's songwriting was dominated by cheesy choruses sung by the awful 'gang vocals' that were hair rocks trait.

From: Rockforever Date: August 11, 2002 at 15:35
There is also hardly any emotion in Lane's vocals, andf the songwriting general is basic. The guitar team is talented technically (though still inferior to some of the other good bands of the late 80s, namecheck Tesla, Skid Row...),but this is not timeless music at all. The band's best of compilation is the only CD of this band that people need, and that's only to play at parties.

From: Rockforever Date: August 11, 2002 at 15:35
Yeah, but the ode to tipper gore is cool though.

From: dokken6008 Date: August 16, 2002 at 15:07
R.forever-- You don't like 'Cherry Pie'? Beau Hill (the producer) is probably most likely to blame then. He was involved a great deal in the 'commercial accessibility' in both 'D.R.F.S.R.' & 'Cherry Pie'. If you want to give Warrant another chance and go for something harder and more creative, by all means check out 'Dog Eat Dog'. I'd say that there at least 5 or 6 very good tracks on that album that display the emotion in Lane's vocal talents and in his songwriting.

From: Steve T Date: September 3, 2002 at 10:52
I'd have liked the band to continue in the Uncle Tom's Cabin and Mr.Rainmaker direction. Missed opportunity with Dog Eat Dog I think. Too much far too soon.

From: Date: September 5, 2002 at 11:41
poison's c.c. deville and danger danger's bruno ravel and steve west made guest appearances on warrant's cherry pie album.

From: Baris Date: September 9, 2002 at 0:37
I think together with D.R.F.S.R. this album is the one that makes them Warrant. The songs are quite SLEAZY'N'HAIRY here. Also a Blackfoot original 'Train Train' is included. No need to think deep in this album. It's just to have a party. So I agree the best Warrant is party Warrant. But 'Dog Eat Dog' also deserves to be given a chance, too. Because it indicates a maturity in the life of the band.

From: J Scott Date: November 4, 2002 at 16:10
Almost worth buying just for Uncle Tom's Cabin. A much harder edge than their other tunes. They also did a good job of the Blackfoot 'Train, Train' remake. Overall, great CD and the title track was a perfect tongue in cheek song.

From: Scott Date: February 20, 2003 at 2:17
Crap, plain and simple. Too pop for me and not enough metal. Bands like Warrant helped bring an end to the greatest era of hard rock & metal. They tried to call them a hard rock band but they've only put out a handful of rockin' songs. I shutter to think that someone out there associates 80's metal/hard rock with Warrant. I do like Uncle Tom's Cabin though.

From: tomcat Date: February 20, 2003 at 13:07
when i first heard that album around 1990 or so i was blown away by the quality of the songs...this was the ultimate funrock album for me... I just couldn't deal with the 'ode to tippergore ' song...excellent disc 9/10 the summer of 1990

From: steve Date: May 5, 2003 at 18:04
cherry pie is a all time anthem

From: HELLTOPAY Date: May 31, 2003 at 7:03
Uncle Tom's Cabin is by far their best song, PERIOD. :P

From: Date: June 14, 2003 at 4:43
I found it to be an album where there were 2-3 top quality tracks and the rest are fillers. Well worth it though for Uncle Tom's Cabin, I Saw Red and Mr Rainmaker.

From: Scandinavia Date: June 25, 2003 at 6:33
Very good album indeed...This is true Rock'n'roll! They really prove how good they are on this effort...They do both melodic tunes (Rainmaker), ballad stuff (I saw red) and typical rock'n'roll anthems (Cherry Pie) all to A+++....Nothing more to say! Just damn good stuff...

From: vandervelde Date: September 21, 2003 at 11:45
Rock'n'roll at his best. This record is more mature than debut and have even more commercial sound. UNCLE TOM is surely greatest Warrant song ever...what a powerfull song. Here also we have greatest Warrant ballad...I SAW RED...This is a must for everyone who visit this site.

From: Edward Date: September 23, 2003 at 12:11
I still remember the video 'CHERRY PIE', wow! what a video it was! It was around 1990 or 1991. And the girl in that video. She was hot! No, correction, she IS still hot!! It's a funny party song. And my girlfriend loves I SAW RED, I hated that song. But with so many listens, I was starting to like it. Great album if you're a fan of late 80's/early 90's hair bands.

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 5, 2004 at 12:25
I was never a huge Warrant fan and in fact I resisted buying this CD for years but when I found a used copy a couple of years ago for $3.99 I bought it just to have 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. I was surprised at how good the rest of the album was too! Yes, it's silly goofy cheesy 80s pop metal but damn does it have hooks! And one of the greatest male chauvenist album covers in rock history to boot. (heh heh...'pie.' Get it?) If you don't take it too seriously this is a great record.

From: Legend Date: January 24, 2004 at 16:02
I love Jani Lane vocal style. This album is very good and has a lot of talent.

From: Impaler Date: February 22, 2004 at 19:04
Every song is killer, they bridge Poison and Dokken fans. Probably the ultimate hair band album (next to 'Hysteria' Def Lep)...lots of catchy hooks and cheesy sex lyrics while still being serious with 'I Saw Red' & 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. Too bad this album didn't signal more great stuff to come. Their albums have been progressively worse as they have tried to adjust their sound with the Grunge & Heavy Alternative popularity.

From: border rat Date: March 4, 2004 at 9:41
WHEN I FIRST HEARD CHERRY PIE I KNEW I HAD TO BUY THIS CD.THIS IS A BRILLIANT HARD MELODIC ROCK ALBUM.I SAW RED,MR RAINMAKER AND UNCLE TOM'S CABIN ARE OTHER STAND OUT TRACKS.I HOPE THAT THE CURRENT WARRANT LINE UP GO BACK TO PLAYING MUSIC LIKE THIS AND STEER CLEAR OF GRUNGE.

From: slayer_fan Date: April 14, 2004 at 5:57
cheery pie is pour some sugar on me's clone. what a bunch of copy cat. i wonder what joe elliot of def leppard think of this song?

From: John Date: April 24, 2004 at 3:07
Ugh. Too cheesy and weak for my taste. The first time I heard it, it was OK. By the third listen, I was sick of it and don't care to ever hear it again.

From: pozermaniac Date: April 27, 2004 at 6:52
John check the Dog Eat Dog!its much better than this one!

From: pozermaniac Date: April 30, 2004 at 12:06
Ok maybe this one for you is shit but i think is so much better than all the music shits , that we must choose to listen these days.Warrant suck?Maybe this one is a little bit stupid but 'Dog Eat Dog' really ROCKS!Check out the cover of the song 'We will rock you'

From: pozermaniac Date: April 30, 2004 at 12:23
And i miss those years..

From: John Date: May 5, 2004 at 17:04
OK, maybe I was a little too hard on it. Yes, it's better than 90 percent of the stuff that the major labels call music now, but there are a lot of rock albums I like better. BTW, I have Dog Eat Dog...and you don't see me 'dogging' it.

From: tallboy Date: May 8, 2004 at 22:28
When Cherry Pie came out over here they played this live(?) on English TV. As a gimmick the TV station gave out cherry pies for the audience to eat. You can guess what happened next...Shame they wern't handing out BRICKS, oh well. This was an album that you quickly tired of listening to.

From: kostasraskolni Date: May 11, 2004 at 7:37
Well, sorry guys but i like this cd.I don't know why but i love the guitar riffs of this cd.Well done Jani Lane you had an excellent voice.I can't even imagine how 'i saw red','mr.rainmaker'or'bed of roses'suck.Saludos

From: jack Date: May 14, 2004 at 4:51
Warrant in my opinion is the 'one who killed metal music' cause like white lion and bon jovi, they play such wussy rock and personally, warrant are just poison clone although poison is better than them.

From: kostasraskolni Date: May 16, 2004 at 4:40
Never say my friend that Bon Jovi killed heavy metal cause it was the band who contribute to be this kind of music more familiar and loved by 100000000 of people and more.So please before you judge them take a look again and again at the history.

From: jack Date: May 19, 2004 at 6:10
To kostasraskolni,I never said bonjovi killed heavy metal,i only say that warrant killed metal music. I'm just saying bon jovi along with white lion, poison and warrant play such wussy and pussy rock. They should learn how to rock better and heavier from motley crue, cinderella, skid row, ratt and w.a.s.p. Anyway, this album is nothing but bubblegum pop music.cherrie pie is just a cheap imitation of pour some sugar on me.

From: pozermaniac Date: May 19, 2004 at 19:01
Uncle Toms Cabin is a killer song! And Rainmaiker so!

From: tutu Date: May 19, 2004 at 19:03
look, i can't say it's a killer album.yes, it's nice, easily digestive etc...but that's all!!!nothing more, nothing less. it's not an album that goes right into your mind..bla bla bla..

From: Gabriel Alves Date: June 18, 2004 at 21:47
That's an icon for its time! The best hard rock album from the so called Poser Metal, Pop Metal, Hair Metal or whatever you want to call these kind of bands! I've been listenning to this record since its release and everytime I listen to it I like more! We're talking about an album that's out in the streets for almost 15 years! Heavy guitars, melodic songs, extremelly good guitar playin', good singer. It's impossible to listen to only one song in this record, you have to listen to the entire cd!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 30, 2004 at 16:55
Big improvement from the debut. The songs rock harder and the songs that were not hits ('Bed Of Roses', 'Sure Feels Good To Me') are as good as the hit songs. The real gem if 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', the best song Warrant ever had. 7/10

From: Geoff Date: August 16, 2004 at 22:58
Another one with little more to say about it. Killer commercial hard rock with faves like 'Uncle Tom's cabin' and the wonderful 'Mr Rainmaker'. Aside from the last track, I love every single song so they must have done something right. Excellent CD! 9/10

From: Rycheage Date: August 18, 2004 at 23:24
Fantastic commercial hard rock that takes Warrant in a new, heavy direction. 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', 'Mr. Rainmaker', 'Cherry Pie' and the two power ballads 'I Saw Red' and 'Blind Faith' are all awesome hard rock tracks that IMO bury anything on the debut. They should've continued in this direction but got lost along the way.

From: Warhead Date: August 23, 2004 at 23:06
Cherry Pie=fun bubble gum song/Uncle Tom's Cabin=cool acoustics w/a mature vibe/ISawRed=unimpressive ballad/BedofRoses=Great acoustical pop rock tune/Sure Feels Good2Me=Fast STANDARD rocker/LoveinStereo=Upbeat rocksong/BlindFaith=good but the acoustic version is better/Song&DanceMan=signs of mature writing/Yourtheonly Hell=Great riff and catchy chorus/Mr.Rainmaker=Melodic rocker Excellent! Train,Train=cover and a well done cover at that. Very produced and polished recording/lacks beef.

From: Kip Date: September 2, 2004 at 21:05
Ahh. I bought this one for $1.05 ten years ago because it was missing the case. I've always felt buying things like CD's are always worth it because unlike a McDonald's cheesburger, it's money that will buy you something that lasts a lifetime and gives you a lifetime of memories too. Top songs here are Cherry Pie, Uncle Tom's Cabin, I Saw Red, Love In Stereo, You're The Only Hell..., and Mr. Rainmaker. The only song I never liked was Song And Dance Man. 8.5/10

From: Propane Date: December 1, 2004 at 20:13
Most excellent follow up for the second outing. Perfect musicianship.

From: Dean Date: December 2, 2004 at 8:41
Propane -how the hell can you call Poison and LA Guns crap and this excellent musicianship? I can't say I understand you whatsoever. That reminds me-did you finally burn out or just refueling for a second run through the database?

From: Propane Date: December 4, 2004 at 18:14

From: Propane Date: December 4, 2004 at 20:30
My apologies to all. I found this site and thought, 'what an awesome job Dan has done to have info on the one thing that has been dear to my heart since 1969, when I bought my first 78. I now realize I have come across a den of argueing and bickering because someone is of another opinion. Too bad, because I've followed a lot of these musicians'careers, not only individual discs. I won't bother anyone anymore, instead I'll wait for another site to (hopefully) come along.

I think I need to jump in here. Propane, no need for you to leave. People use these comments sections for various things: leaving opinions or mini-reviews on discs, responding to other people's reviews, and debating merits (or lack thereof) of the album in question. Disagreeing on whether a disc is good or bad is fine, as long as it doesn't degenerate into namecalling (I've already deleted a few comments in this thread). One thing to keep in mind, since this is an interactive site, is to be careful how to couch your criticism of a disc: if you dislike a disc or song, feel free to say so, but give reasons why. If all you do is post something like 'This album is complete crap', that comes off as trollish and antagonistic, and is likely to draw a response from someone who DOES like the disc. Anything on-topic to the disc at hand is fine here, but no namecalling, and no buy/sell/trade posts (that's what the main message board is for).

Great album! My favourite is definently 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'. Great energy and sound! I watch videos of my dad in the good old days playing this song live and it was a crowd pleaser! Definently worth owning this album!

When i first heard Ratts 'Round and round' i was blown away.Few minutes latter i heard 'Cherry pie'(is it posible that someone can be 'more' blown away?)-well i was.Great song-nothing special at all(simple rhythm)-but still its one of my favourite hair/pop metal songs.Another one that makes me go crazy is 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'(their heaviest song till 1992).There are also 2 great ballads 'I saw red' and 'Blind faith'.'Bed of roses','Song and dance man' and 'Mr.Rainmaker' are great rockers too.

Admittedly, there were and are alot of bands more talented than warrant, but they are a great rock band. You only have to listen to "Mr. Rainmaker" and "Uncle's Tom's Cabin", man I woulda killed to have written that song! Cherry Pie rocks!

From: zoomanthree Date: December 15, 2008 at 10:17
killer released by warrant, 1 of best of 80's album. as good as DRFSR (they first album) . cheery pie and i saw red is fave. execelent hardrock

Uncle Tom's Cabin is my all-time favorite Warrant song... kickass.

From: edwithmj Date: October 1, 2009 at 22:07
This and the first disc are almost equal to eachother exvept for one thing: Mr Rainmaker. That one song just elevates this album above the first. I agree with Geoff that the only dull track is Train Train because the rest is so great. The album flows from song to song and never stops! Again, Mr Rainmaker, what a song! Great solo by Joey too. Check youtube for some great live performances of that.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 30, 2010 at 14:04
"CherryPie," the song, is pretty fuckin' stupid, I realize now, but the rest of the album is stronger overall than the debut. The ballads are much improved (although I've always preferred the acoustic version of "I Saw Red" to the piano one), and of course "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is the highlight of the disc. Other highlights are "Bed Of Roses," "Sure Feels Good To Me" and the true sleeper of the bunch, "Mr. Rainmaker." Again, a better release, but I have to say I don't really listen to much Warrant anymore. "Nostalgic' and "dated" are two words thta coe to mind, meaning basically the same thing, but with different connotations, one positive, one negative. Take your pick.

From: pie75 Date: August 22, 2010 at 7:29
no doubt this album hasn't hasn't aged well a bit like europe's final countdown but i like that too this takes me back to my teenage years the first time i heard warrant was the cherry pie video what a hot chick! i love the first album better but this is great too the title track is cheesy jani lane hates it to this day but uncle tom's cabin,i saw red,bed of roses, blind faith,mr.rainmaker and you're the only hell your momma ever raised are good tunes

hair metal masterpiece by the mighty WARRANT,back in 90 !killer commercial hard rock ,with tha valuable help of BEAU HILL in production and JANI s amazing songwriting.no need to say much this is a classic for hard rockers and for me a 100/100

From: the rocker Date: January 4, 2012 at 20:37
Sure Cherry Pie is a fun song, but to be known only for that is a bunch of crap! My favorite Warrant song over all is on this cd in form of the AWESOME Mr. Rainmaker! Other good rockers are of course Uncle Tom's Cabin, Bed Of Roses, Love In Stereo, & 2 of the best ballads- I Saw Red & Blind Faith. I recommend.

From: J.Wylder Date: February 16, 2012 at 5:35
This is probably my fave Warrant/Jani Lane disc, I played it again and again for a long time in '90-'91! Jani wrote some catchy hits, yet a little cheesy which was a sign of the times, but also several a little deeper and more serious songs like the killer Mr Rainmaker and Uncle Tom's Cabin, and again some strong ballads. Production is good again except for the typical plastic Beau Hill snare drum sound. Guitars by Mike Slamer and Tommy Girvin are stunning, as well as Jani's vocals and acoustics. The best Warrant album imo since there are hardly any fillers. One has to point out the excellent outtake track Thin Disguise as well, really good The somewhat deeper songs are the ones that have stood the test of time & I (can) still listen to I really think that the remainding members of Warrant should perform under a new name, since they owe Jani for the gold+platinum awards hanging in their homes. It's the truth folks. So many rockers are destroyed by drugs.. Rest in peace, Jani.

From: Buitre Date: May 9, 2013 at 11:58
Oh well, so Warrant killed heavy metal? I'don't think so. You should rather blame MTV, the record companies, radio stations...for taking the cow (bands), milking it (made them all sound alike & make shit loads of money) 'till they dried out and then go for something else. The whole thing was pushed up and then thrown away. Of course Warrant isn't Heavy Metal and I guess they never pretended to be. By the way, it is a very good hair metal record 85/100

During this year's Super Bowl, there was a commercial that was playing 'Sure Feels Good to Me'. I don't know if anybody else caught that, but I just thought that was pretty cool.

Warrant was the band took me into HR/HM world, it will be always one of my favorite bands. This album is well produced, great song written and over the top performance. Warrant is different since Jani gone. RIP Jani... your music is awesome!

1990 was another strong year in the glory years of hard rock that were 1982-1992. Queensryche, Love/Hate, Extreme, Slaughter, Firehouse all released great discs, but the best was the second album by Warrant. Commercial in a big way, with expensive videos and a big promotional push. The title track was a sleazy stripper anthem similar to Pour Some Sugar On Me. Bed of Roses is a great track, as is the ballad I Saw Red. But it is the heavy murder story "Uncle Tom's Cabin" that is the standout track. Jani Lane was a gifted songwriter who for some reason wanted critical as well as commercial success. This was their last party metal album and maybe the last to get that big record company push in our genre. Grade A pie.

This was the first time I ever saw a parental-advisory sticker on a tape I wanted as a kid. The music industry had agreed in the mid-'80's to the sticker, !pacify the PMRC (and more importantly, try and get their husbands in Congress to pass the Home Audio Recording Act, which would have put a tax on blank tapes which would hopefully then be funneled back to the labels.

The bill ultimately failed, and the industry slow-walked the rollout of the sticker until 1990. It was good news for my mom, still mad after the flap about my GNR tape from two years before. She already didn't like the song "Cherry Pie," not being able to see that it was entirely tongue-in-cheek, or that I didn't really understand the lyrics anyway at ten years old. The sticker officially squashed my chances of ever getting the tape. All because of one short, stupid non-song, really just a collage of Jani Lane saying "fuck." I ended up getting a dubbed copy from an older, distant relative almost a year later. But I'd built it up in mymind so much that I didn't notice that, just like the first album, there were several songs I never listened to: "Love In Stereo," "Song And Dance Man," "You're The Only Hell" and "Train Train." With that said, I guess that means if you took the best five songs from each of the first two albums, you'd have one great hair-metal disc.
