I think I like this a bit more than Kim did. Good, but not as cool as the first two. A few too many fillers, but some keepers as well. Still willing to buy #4 when it comes out.

I will give it another try. The reason why I dont like this release so much, might be because the first two releases really knocked me over. They were fantastic.

Good disc by 2001 standards, average disc by Giant and 1991 standards. "Don't Leave Me in Love" is as good as anything that fell out of Foreigner's ass cheeks though.

Fantastic return by these Giants ! A perfect mix between their first two records. And I even believe it's their best, better than even the fantastic debut ! I only miss mr. Pasqua and his keys, he's a genius. The best release of 2001 and Koogles, you have a point, the seventies and eigties were better, but this is a Great Album. Don't miss it and I'm waiting for album number 4 !!!

Maestro.

Any fan of Giant (HUFF) should try to get a copy of an old ´Rick Springfield cd called Rock Of Life. Dan Huff produced it, and played guitar on it as well. It also features Alan Pasqua, and Randy Jackson. Cool album, which is out of print.

Just picked up a cd by Giant, which has just been released. Its called Live And Acoustic, The Official Bootleg. Damn good stuff. It has 13 fantastic tracks, which shows how good these guys were/are. I also picked up a cd by a guy called Joe Bonamassa. Damn can he play some good Rock'n Blues. THe disc I bought comes with a free DVD. Really good stuff too.

Just amazing - these guys know how to deliever. Tunes are catchy - the melodies are fine tuned and the musicianship between these three guys is great. 'Oh Yeah' - is fantastic - great hook - highly recommended - if your a fan - a must - if not - grab it to discover what AOR is all about.

This is NOT a comeback album, and neither is 'Live and acoustic'. This album is from start to finish made up of previously unreleased demo's that the band had stashed away for years. Don't get your hopes up about the band getting back together, as it just aint gonna happen.
|
From: brent |
Date: June 14, 2003 at 4:28 |
As Chris said not much at all was written especially for this album........although not in the class of their first two studio albums, how many people have songs of this class sitting around to release as "rejects". Amazing. Fingers crossed for some genuinely new songs. Brent.

It is true : we'll probably never gonna hear from Giant again, but III is for me their best, because their debut was good but too U2-ish ! and their second was not varied enough and I missed the keys on that one. This one is a mix of both and their best !
|
From: Patrick |
Date: June 14, 2003 at 13:48 |
What ? the Giant debut album is... "too U2-ish" ????? OMG... don't know if you mean it, but you're too freakin' funny
|
From: freddy de keyze |
Date: June 14, 2003 at 20:10 |
Yes, dear Patrick, I mean it ! Listen to the guitarwork from Dan, it's like you hear The Egde (or how is that U2 guitarist called ?). Listen carefully and you will hear what I mean. It's not a bad record, but the U2 influences are there. A pity !
|
From: Great Dane |
Date: June 14, 2003 at 21:36 |
Freddy for god sakes, Just because there is a riff(or even less) that sounds like something you´ve heard before, doesnt have to mean that its a ripp off. Its not like hearing The Edge. I like U2, but Dan is way ahead of him. So fckin what if 10 secs in a song sounds like U2. How much can U do on a 6 string guitar, that havent been played before. The genre we're discussing isnt really ' changing the world' is it. Talking 'down' to other users of heavyharmonies like you do *Dear Patrick*

Makes you sound like a clown. Like youre a hard rock oracle or something. Change The Batteries in your Hearing Aid if you think that Giant sounds like U2.

From: Rycheage |

Essential. No question about it. There isn't a filler or a below average track amongst this lot. It's a tribute to the band that there was no room for songs of this quality on their original two studio albums. The songs themselves run together beautifully and have been organized into a perfect running order.

Giant's throwaways are better than 95% of every other band. I can see why these got left off the other two albums, but it's not like they're bad songs. Just not as good as the material that made it to the first two albums.

Not bad, but nowhere near as good as either of the 1st 2 albums. Alot of it sounds like outtakes and, in fact, that's basically what it consists of. Buy with caution, cos the critics have over rated it!
|
From: AOR freaky |

Once again I have to disagree with Harvey ! Man, this is the best Giant ! It's a mix of their first releases. O.K., I think it's older stuff, but is it bad ? NO WAY ! It's great ! I only wish there were more acts like the mighty Giant ! The music world would be a better place to live !

Quite weak to my opinion, especially compared to the 2 first releases. What's the use of putting these boring ballads. Way too predictable stuff in this. Huff is a very talented guitarist, for sure. Very disappointed by III.

Giant sure left a legacy. It's not often that melodic rock fans get excited for an album of leftovers, but when it is Giant, can any song really be a leftover? Some of these tracks are better than the songs that made albums "You Will Be Mine" and "Over You". But you also do see why some were leftover "Bad Case Of Loving You". 7/10

Apparently "Don't Leave me in Love" was very close to making the 2nd release, but was pulled last minute as it didn't quite fit the style (which is true enough). As much as I love Mark Spiro's solo albums ("Dont Leave me in Love" was on "Devotion") he just can't sing it as well as Huff can. I liked "Its Not the End of the World" and "Can't Let Go" off this, but probably not enough to have put them on one of the first 2 classic albums.

Giant III - On first listen i thought it just sounded like left over songs but it really grew on me. Maybe the production isn't quite as good as the other 2 albums which is why these songs don't quite have the wow factor but still a great collection of songs. Giant - Don't Leave us in Love!!!! Do another album and another and another....!! Everything Dann Huff does is amazing. I even listened to Lonestar because he produced it.

A great release of wonderful tracks we may never have heard. For me there are quite a few fillers here, I guess needed to complete a full album, but the 4 gems are of outstanding quality. 'You Will Be Mine' is melodic hard rock brilliance - killer riff, massive chorus, 'Over You' is sensational - a commercial gem! 'Don't Leave Me in Love' was beautiful by Spiro, and just as good here. A superb track. And then 'Can't Let Go' might just be my fave Giant track - spine tingling and perfect! Love it.

Well,I must say I had listened this cd too bad in the past,it's indeed superb as the others 2(infact these tracks has been written after their second cd,I think around 1993/94,it's easy to understand this fact from style, sounds and production very close to the first 2).BTW this cd contains many great songs in the same awesome Giant style, the first track is indeed a killer even it's made of an easier tune with a very generic riff similar to other hundred bands. But it's another great cd from Giant

where have I been, just picked this up a few months ago, did not even hear about it, well with the first Giant being permantly placed in front of me at all times(hahaha) I was so happy to see this one, not as strong as the first, but I enjoy this one better then Time to Burn, but who's comparing, all Giant is great, fantastic, and wonderful. So good to hear this one, very strong album and welcomed return of this band.

Far from being their best album, this is still a very good effort. Dan's singing and playing is better than ever and there's a lot of great tracks here. Combustion is a killer guitar solo, You Will Be Mine, The Sky Is The Limit and Oh Yeah are very good rockers, and then there's the beautiful ballads Don't Leave In Love, It's Not The End Of The World and Can't Let Go. I just don't understand why they had to include the cover Doctor, Doctor here - one of the most overrated songs ever IMO. 8/10

Well, I'm expected a better album but it's OK anyway. "You Will Be Mine" is simple becoming one of my favourite songs of all time and of course "Don't Leave Me in Love" is a classic too. But the rest is "just" good for me. Which is actually not bad but talkin' about GIANT, you know... 8/10

Buen album de Giant, pero a mi parecer el Time to burn es el mejor de ellos, aqui las canciones siguen su estilo similar al de los dos anteriores albumes, osea temas AOR y hard rockeros,me quedo con los temas en plan AOR como son You will be mine(gran comienzo, te deja petrificado!),Don´t leave me in love clásico sonido de ellos y uno de los mejores del album,la balada It´s not the end... excelente, Oh yeah otro temazo, Cán´t let go otra buena balada puro feeling, las demas como que bajan el album

My last comment didn't do this justice. After listening to this a bit more I've come to the conclusion that this is their most consistent album. The first album, while being my favourite, had a few filler tracks and the second album was half filler but every track on here is stand out. Dann's voice sounds even better than it's ever been. It's Not The End Of The World is my favourite track with You Will Be Mine, Oh Yeah and I Can't Let Go coming very close behind. They should've released another almost immediately after because this is quality hard rock at its best.
