In my top10 late 80's AMERICAN HAIR BAND!GREAT FUN Rock N' Roll with very SLEAZY lyrics. This album is full of juvenile ENERGY and contagious melodies,a bottle of pink HAPPINESS you can open each time you feel grey.STEVIE RACHELLE is the perfect singer and the cover is good too!A CLASSIC! (just one question:Why is this band not in the GLAM/sleaze section?)

Poison look alikes, but still a great cd. In fact, Bret Michaels wrote track 8 on this cd, Wake Me Up. when I first saw this tape in the music store, I thought it was Bret Michaels with another band. Too Funny!!! I gave this cd an 8.0

Oh, T-Bone first time I saw a Tuff pic on a magazine I think the same!!!!!! Tuff is the example of Crue-Poison wannabe band...but they're NOT clones....Well, I think this is the best Tuff album...Lonely Lucy is one of the definitive Glam-Hair Rock tracks of the eightes...I love Stevie Rachelle's vocals...All the songs in this record deserve to be mentioned.... I gave this record an 8.0 What come around is for all you glam-streetwise rockers !!!! Buy or die...

And how about Ruck a pit bridge?
|
From: Desslar |
Date: April 5, 2002 at 11:40 |
Poison pretenders who are actually a bit heavier, but much weaker songwriters. Nothing really worth a repeat listen, but still better than most similar clones.
|
From: dokken6008 |
Date: April 27, 2002 at 4:23 |
'Ruck a Pitt Bridge' might be the best song on Tuff's first cd, 'What Comes Around Goes Around', but there are other good tunes as well. Rachelle's voice is a bit gruff sounding & his vocal technique comes across as a combination between Bret Michels (Poison) & Claus Lessmann of Bonfire--not a bad cross. Some of the lyrics contained w/in 'WCAGA' are pretty sappy, but what can you expect from 1st-timers? There are some good rockers here & one very good ballad, 'Wake Me Up'. 8.0/10.

Before I go, one intriguing tid-bit: Isn't it hilarious how Stevie mimicks Bret Michael's look and style almost to a science? Posers, maybe. Good musicians, DEFINITELY. Glam fans must own this cd.

From: Reno |

Actually Dokken6008 is right, but they are very good friends also. Bret wrote the song Wake Me Up for these guys back in the day. If I remember an interview with Stevie correctly...he said they were good friends

I've been noticing that Tuff sure does have alot of re-hashes and best of's for only having 2 original cd's. Get off your asses and write some new shit Stevie.
|
From: JACK |

I heard that the original (very good) guitarist, Jorge DeSaint, was back in the band! Maybe (like Reno above wishes), they will make a new album for the 'All New Century', that would be the coolest thing to happen for me because they are talented song writers with a typical sound. (no clones at all!).Anyway, this album is a classic among classics of this musical genre, a 'must have' for sure! Hair Bands are generally underrated but nevertheless they're an indeniable part of the history of rock!!

nitrodoll, I don't know WHAT you were talking about with 'the rap at the end of 'Ruck A Pitt Bridge''? Huh? My friend, you are quite mistaken. That ditty at the end of the 1st track was FUNK, man! Bass/percussion-heavy----FUNK. Besides rock & roll, I love funk because it is one of the few (if not the ONLY) forms of music where the quality of the song is almost entirely reliant upon the bass and rhythm section-players. Rock & roll, on the other hand, revolves around melodies & is guitar-driven.

Crappy vocals good guitar work needs more melody less on the sqawks and false harmonics. Bad songs. Poison is a much better band that is why they lasting longer than tuff.

I wish they had stuck to the live version of 'Good Guys Wear Black.' I really didn't like the studio version at first but now I can't stop playing it. The live version is still better though. I have footage of them before they were signed. Some of the best backing vocals I've ever head on that one. Stevie looks like Brett but the music is different for certain.

I can see why these guys called it quits. I admire the fact that they made a valiant effort to make it, but face it, the singer has no vocal range whatsoever, and the songs suck. The Tuff part about this band is getting through the songs. He needs singing lessons, i'm surprised they made it this far.

Another mr.wise guy, that means you Seb....You dont need to have a wide vocal range to sing glam...(PBF-WARRANT-POISON etc) Steve does an excellent job and the whole cd rox at any time!!!!!!

From: Bizkit82 |

Poison, er, I mean TUFF were at the top of their game in 1986 when they were playing sell-outs at the Country Club in Reseda, CA. They were huge then, and put on monster shows. Stevie still had hair! Everyone around them got signed and went to the big time. Warrant, Mr.Big, etc. The fact they didn't get picked up tells you something about what the labels saw in them, which was very little. An unoriginal act that emulated Poison, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, and Cinderella to a tee. Todd was cool.

|
From: sinnerboy |

I got into tuff pretty late. I thought they were just another glam band. boy was i wrong. yeah they are glam but alot heavier than poison, warrant. And for those who say stevie has no vocal range, what the hell are you listening to. he has to be one of the best singers to come out of the 80's\90's. I thought this album was great, but you need to hear thier other album religious fix now that kicks. tied to the bells is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Why do some jerks look for comparisons between POISON and TUFF?? Don't you have ears, buddies? TUFF is TUFF, POISON is POISON! 'It's metal', 'it ain't', 'Stevie looks like Bret', 'the guitar riffs suck' (this one is pathetic... I love CC De Ville, but he AIN'T a guitar player as well, so what's the difference?...). Straightforward: POISON and TUFF kick major ass. End of the story.

Oh man! 18 years later, and the debate on TUFF is still going. This is great! Absolutely, they were a definite Poison rip off band, especially after Stevie joined. That guy took copying Roth, and Bret Michaels to a new level. To this day he is still a copy-cat. He decided he was gonna be the new Kid Rock. I guess you have to give the guy credit. What else can he do? Where's George and Todd?

As generic as hair metal gets. There is a reason this band was around for so long before finally getting signed to a major label. I hate songs like 'The All New Generation' that name drop bands throughout, especially when the bands included are the likes of Johnny Crash. 2/10

Did anyone else go over to the METAL-SLUDGE website? It's a take off on Metal Edge magazine, but RIPS APART hair bands from the 80's/90's. I've read in a few places now that Stevie Rachelle from Tuff is the sole owner and master mind 'man behind the curtain.' Absolutely hilarious! Stevie goes on a crazy 'Courtney Love' type rant in a 'Letter from the CEO' and proclaims he can suck his own c-ck, let's women urinate in his mouth, and has paid for hookers. CRAZY STUFF! I recently watched the video of I hate kissing you goodbye and although the ballad is cool the band also did quite a few other super songs. So many seasons, wake me up and good guys wear black are very strong tracks. This is a disc with 10 listenable songs and although many compare this band to POISON that is not a bad thing in my opinion.A worthy addition to the cd collection if you don't already own it.

Tuff is an underrated band. It's kinda known on 80's metal / glam scene but never made it to big public and it's a shame. Maybe they just popped up on the wrong time, when the world and MTV was focused on Nirvana and Pearl Jam. It's an awsome album, great rock n'roll. If you don't know it, you have no idea of what you're missing. It's heavy, sleazy and caughty. The All New Generation is a 'one-to-hear' song. Highly recommended.

They had tonz of fun with the fans & the place was jam packed !! Then they kept partying with the fans afterwards...this is what Rock n Roll is all about. Why they never managed to breakout of hollywood & make it big is beyond me...? What Comes Around is a great CD, but search around & find some of there other ear

How shouldn't Nirvana & Co, swep away all the hair bands if the 'All New Generation' of bands were crap as Tuff ( or worse, Southgang, Sweet FA...). This album is like a poor version of 'Open Up And Say Ahh! (although, it has to be said, it sound a lot better and heavier), it's so derivative from Poison, not only the singer looks exactly like Bret Michaels he also sings like him!. Sorry, I just find this unoriginal, unispired and and absolute rip-off. Tastes are Tastes

These guys were supposedly kings of the Strip back in their heyday, but by the time this album came out in '91, we'd already heard all these songs a million times before. The result is that this disc sounds pretty average to me, and in hindsight, even more so. Still a good hair-metal ride, though, kind of straddling the line between the bubblegum of Warrant and Poison, adn something harder and a little more aggressive.

Poison clone. That said, there are some great songs here. My personal favourite is Forever Yours but the ballad I Hate Kissing You Good-Bye and The All New Generation are very good indeed. It's not deep or profound, just party-style rock songs and it's good for what it is.

A few years later, and I had my first CD player and this was one of the first CD's I tracked down. Of course, by the time this came out the songs on it were hardly original as there had been about a million other bands from the genre doing the same thing, but boy was it good. At the end of the day people can throw out "they sound like Poison" or "they are unoriginal", but who gives a damn as long as it sounds good. Of course the band had been around a good few years before this album came out, so the songs had that 100% 80s sound to them, but came out during the death knell of the genre and were probably one of the last bands to have any kind of "success" even if it paled in comparison to the glory days. Years later I can still dig this one out and enjoy the hell out of it.

It's interesting how people remember, or misremember, the timeline for certain things. You have a memory in your life and you could swear a certain song was the soundtrack for it, but that can't be, because it didn't exist yet. Chuck Klosterman writes about this in Fargo Rock City (another book HH folk would find interesting), where he is absolutely sure he asked a girl to dance to "Talk Dirty To Me" in 1985. (He acknowledges this is obviously impossible.) I bring this up because, in Nothin' But A Good Time, Stevie Rachelle talks about "I Hate Kissin' You Goodbye" reaching #3 on Dial-MTV, bested only by "Enter Sandman" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." And he pins it at sometime in September of '91. And I have to say, I think this might be a false memory. Because I remember seeing that video on Dial-MTV, very high up the countdown (maybe even #3), sometime in the spring of that year. It was actually the first and only time I saw that video, and the VJ actually commented on Stevie's resemb

... resemblance to Bret Michaels. The sG didn't leave much of an impression, and I remember keeping an eye out for it on MTV and radio, thinking maybe I just needed to hear it again—and I never did. I put this sometime in May of '91. And the next month, "Monkey Business" came out, and I forgot all about Tuff, as most people did. Of course, neither "Enter Sandman" nor "Teen Spirit" were out yet, and for that matter, "Teen Spirit" took a couple months to really take off. So ... one of us is mixed up. But this is something I've always been fascinated with.

I always loved "The All New Generation". It's a great track but what made it fun was trying to pick out all the references in the clever lyrics. I feel sorry for this band because this album was a cut above most releases.
