This album is not half as good as their classic first one. The songs are duller and they miss the heavy sound like they had on the first album. I blame this poor album on producer Tom Werman who made them sound like a boring glam band, rather than the classic hard rock band they almost became after their first release. If they only could have stuck to the winning formula that album had..

Haven't heard this one yet but let me say DIRECTLY to LSN that whatever your viewpoint may be on Steelheart's second or third album or whatever----there is NOTHING classic or earth-shattering about Steelheart's first record. I love that album just as much as every other true AOR fan in this world does, but to call it a classic is degrading the word. Def Leppard's 'Hysteria' was "classic" and so was AC/DC's 'Back In Black' & the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour'. But as good as 'Steelheart' was..

Widomakr riconsider your foolish statement. Tangled in reins is a masterpiece. Loaded Mutah is party metal, Electric love child is a wonderful power ballad. Ok they moved from the class aor of their first to the party glam of this one, But where is the problem? Widomakr you are more integralist than a muslim, you can't accept a little change. I agree with you when some bands pass from hard rock to alternative rock(too many) but not in this case.

I don't mean to antogonise the WidoMakr (like the rest of you obviously are), but I was finally able to obtain a copy of 'Tangled In Reins' and I have to say that I enjoy listening to most of the songs quite a bit more than Steelheart's first album. While the ballads on SHeart's first may have been done more masterfully on their self-titled debut, I like the rockers on 'Tangled..' quite a bit more. Having said all that, "Mama Don't You Cry" is one of the most emotional ballads I have ever heard.

R.R.-- It is indeed out of print. I find that ironic, as 'Tangled In Reins' far surpasses the band's self-titled cd, both musically AND vocally. As for what j. said: "This is a good time rock and roll ablum." j., that is quite an understatement! Out of all the great rock releases that hit shelves '92, 'Tangled In Reins' may perhaps be THE best. Buy this album if not only for tracks one through three. Mikey-boy proves himself as one of rock's best singers of all-time, if not THE best. 10++

j., still to this day I don't get all the rave about the simple party-song "Late For The Party". I mean the chorus is catchy and probably the only one most of can sing along with without seriously damaging our vocal chords: "Call me black, call me white, call me anything you like, just don't call me late for the party." "Loaded Mutha", on the other hand, is so fucking bitchin', I don't know what to say. Mike and his band at their best.

What I like most about the song "Late For The Party" is, when he is singing the verses in the song it almost sounds like he wants to start laughing. It sounds really ruff cut and a little sloppy. I love that!

Wow, this is sure a testy board! Let me just put it all to rest now: Steelheart S/T is a fucking masterpeice. I don't even want to get into the vocal discussion because Matijevic holds the honor as the most talented male vocalist of all time. As for the comparison of the two albums; yes, they are much different, yet both rip. S/T has a much more slick feel with more sharpness and late 80's edge. Tangled is thicker, rougher, and has more "balls" if you will. Take it form #1 Steelheart MAN!

This is a monster. "Steelheart" the song is Mike Matijevik's answer to Judas Priest's "Painkiller". "Late For the Party" is a great time, with talkbox guitar, a killer chorus... a party alright!! "Mama Don't You Cry" is the mandatory ballad that almost equals "Angel Eyes" from the debut. Overall, I'd have to say this is a more consistent effort than the debut. If you don't have this one, you're missing out!!

This was a good followup to the first. They went in a slightly heavier direction, which was probably in their best interest at the time(this was 1992, remember. Grunge was becoming huge). Its nice that they did throw a couple of ballads in. "All Your Love" would have been a hit if it was on their first one. This album got virtually no promotion. Too bad. It deserved better.

Oh yeah this is what I'm talkin' about! Totally love this album. I have avoided getting their debut because this dude in h.s. ALWAYS had "Angel Eyes" playing and pissed everyone off but I might have to look for it if its anything even close to this. Party rock like this is what helps make the good time better. "Loaded Mutha" really sets the pace for the rest of the album. That and "Electric Love Child" are my favs but the whole damn thing is awesome!

Hey Blue Tequila...check their 1st one out too! "Tangled" is very good, and just because one song from the debut went to the BB Top 40, doesn't mean the rest isn't good. Steelheart had a unique way of mixing simple groove-layden hard rock with scorching vocals and great guitar, but their compilations were always twice as long as many other bands. Many in the HR/AOR field don't apreciate this. I do! "Tangled" and the debut are both easily 8+ ratings in my book!

This CD reminds me of the crop of Zeppelin-clone bands like Kingdom Come and even Great White to a slightly lesser degree. Party-pop metal with decent vocals, catchy songs, and a WAY to clean production. I think this CD would have benefitted from a dirtier, heavier production. Vocals have that Page-like howl that works so well with this style. So, while I don't think this CD is as bad as some people on this page made it sound, it's not "Great" and "classic" either.

I like this one better than the debut, but this one is not without it's faults. The lyrics are just terrible, especially "Smooth Side Up" and "Loaded Mutha". But they once again deliver a strong ballad in "All Your Love" and "Steelheart" is a funny attempt at a speed metal song. 5/10

This has more chunk than the debut. "Loaded Mutha" and "Sticky Side Up" are good rocking numbers and get the CD off to the races. "Late For The Party" is feel good rock n roll at the least. The ballads "All Your Love" and "Mama Don't Your Cry" are touching and done with class. This is better than the debut IMO, but like Big Papa K said, it does have faults. The writing at times is terrible and it does have some filler. All in all, it's a good CD worthy of getting.

This CD is a very hit or miss affair. In my opinion, the songs are either very good to great or just plain bad. The great songs are Electric Love Child and All Your Love. The very good are Loaded Mutha, Stick Side Up and Mama Don't You Cry. The rest are throw aways, especially the incoherent and noisy 'Steelheart' song. Overall anything done with Mike Matijevic should be above average, as he is one of my personal favorite singers. Overall, this is a slightly better than average release. 6/10

Kip...dude...this CD is so good from start to finish. I don't dig ballads, so I don't count them. The C-# tuned down bass on 'Love 'Em And I'm Gone' is sonic perfection. I think this is miles above the debut. Whoever produced this record should be livid that it got no promotion, because he worked his @ss off making it sound awesome.

I probably prefer the debut, but this is still a great peice of commercial hard rock. 'Late for the party' and the killer (and my fave) 'Dancin' in the fire' are awesome melodic rockers, 'Mama don't you cry' is a very sad, but beautiful ballad. 'Sticky side up' is awesome commercial hard rock, 'Loaded mutha' is a monster track, 'All your love' and 'Love em and I'm gone' have grown of me too, as anthem-type gems. Overall, a great CD!

Better be patient if you are going to try to make it thru this overblown disc. Several songs clock in at over 6 minutes. While the quality of the material is not in doubt, there is simply too much of it. Besides prog bands and "Stairway To Heaven", hard rock and AOR bands have precious little reason to be venturing into 7 minute territory. Wake me when its over.

80'hard rock is spot on. I loved the debut but this is even a step up. Rock hard music at its very very best. Unbeleivable tragedy that happened to the singer while they were on their peak. Would have been a HUGE band..The 2006 mini cd is modern crap imo. They should go back to their roots. This music/album can easily be played again today. Great album, great singer, awesome rock tunes. My faves are Loadad Mutha.. well actually i love em all apart from the Steelheart song. 9/10

Steelheart tries to harden up on their second release, after a debut that was largely interchangeable with releases from Firehouse and XYZ from the same time period. They get their Spread Eagleon with songs like "Loaded Mutha" and "Steelheart," maybe even going for a little Slave To The Grind feel. Matijevic has toned down the dog-whistle shrieks (somewhat), and the productuion ismuch less glossy, with downtuned guitars in places. But it's still Steelheart, , so there are more '80's style anthems like "Sticky Side Up," "Late For The Party" and "Dancin' In The Fire," and of course a couple melodramatic ballads. Even the order of the songs seems to mirror the debut in a way, which I find funny, even as the band seems to be trying to branch out a little. Overall, though, the song title "Late To The Party" just about sums this band up.

Really love this CD. For me this one is their best. Mike is in top shape here with great songs. The ballads are fantastic, All Your Love, what a song!

Honestly the ONLY thing that let these guys down any were their partytime lyrics (easily forgiven considering the era). Otherwise Steelheart were well ahead most their contemporaries, heavier and plenty talent, an acquired taste perhaps but no disputing the capable tonsils of Matijivic. Cause when these guys stepped away from the party the quality really shone through! All Your Love quite rightly fan fave but surprised little has been said for Mama Don't You Cry. Keeping this in perspective considering the era from which it comes (fresh ears may need forgive if not aged so well), Mama's lyrics are just heart wrenching & the vocal delivery emotional, connecting with the loss of a loved one certainly qualified the tune too & if looking for near ballad perfection, look no further than MamaDYC! & elsewhere it's not all pop&roll, Electric Love Child rolls out a bass groove like no other & Take Me Back Home improves the standard they set with the debut. Still rate this over the debut, 8/10
