One of the best female-fronted bands of all time. The singer sounds like a sleazy Janis Joplin.

I own this and while it has some great riffs and the singer Sally had the best ass in rock it sounds like they're just lost in the shuffle of the 3 trillion bands signed to record companies at the time that looked and sounded like this. Not saying it's bad by any means but you've heard this before you know what I mean? If you like a sleazy mixture of Guns & Poison fronted by a female voice though check this out as I'm sure you'll love it!!! Some really tasty riffs here.

I only heard of them through a friend. He taped some Judas Priest for me, and put three Smashed Gladys tracks on the free space on the end of the tape: Lick it into shape, 17 going on crazy and half of play dirty. Love it. I must get him to bring the vinyl next time he visits so I can rip it. Or else I must buy the CD...

In a perfect world Smashed Gladys would be playing the bowling alleys with Firehouse and the likes of Donald Dokken would be partying with members of Blackfish after they all got off work at Sizzler. This is one shit-hot slab of sleeze rok straight from the gutter. Makes Guns and Roses sound like Toto (No Trick, don't make fun of Toto!). If you find this one, even in your best friend's collection, steal it, live it, love it. Bonus points for info on what Sally Cato is up to these days.

The last thing I heard was that Sally Cato was working for a tv station in the Connecticut/New York area. Ryan from Metal Mayhem can probably give you more information! The CD is one of the GREATEST albums ever recorded. Not only could Sally sing, but she was SMOKIN' HOT!

This album rocks! Even though the lead singer is female, the vocals and the music sound a LOT like MCQUEEN STREET. Check it out.

Can't get over how much I like this album! I don't know what the lead singer looks like, but judging by the above comments, I need to get on that...pronto. MCQUEEN STREET fans need to give this one a listen.

Killer cd(have it on vinyl and tape too) but the McQueen Street comparisions baffle me. I always thought they sounded like a heavier Faster Pussycat. Compared to bands like No Shame or Vixen, Sally Cato's vocals sound down and dirty and mean as hell. "Eye of the Storm" and "17 going on Crazy" were two of the standouts. I remember buying this because the cover was cool. Good thing the music kicked ass.

Great album, i'm 16 and totally missed the 80's but oh well...I was in a record shop and noticed it because the cover looked great, so I stuck it on in the shop and I couldn't get enough of it so I brought it - and luckily for me it turned out to be a true gem. Sleaze isn't dead You want proof huh: Check these great bands out, and keep it alive! www.crashdiet.org - www.loudnnasty.com www.gemini5.net www.privatelineweb.com www.rzd.it (Razzle Dazzle) www.hurricane-party.com

Hi, is there anyone that can burn my copies of both of the CD's from this group. I have the LP, but just can't seem to get it cleaned up enough to burn to a CD. If possible, I could also download mp3's. I do have some rare CD's to trade, but not to many.

The novelty with Smashed Gladys is that they have a female singer, who is just as sleazy as any hormone-addled dude, if not more so. Sally Cato favors a raspy screech much of the time, and her actual singing, like on the dreadful ballad "Eye Of The Storm," is not great. The boyz in the band play only as well as they need to, though Bart Lewis's credits hint that he may be playing down to the level of the songs. This is a tough one. Bands like this were not known for irony or self-awareness, yet Smashed Gladys almost seem to be taking the piss, as the British say. Songs like "Lick It Into Shape" and "Legs Up" seem like hair-metal caricatures well before Steel Panther, both in the over-the-top lyrics and in the way Sally delivers them—she almost sounds like she's making fun of the way her male counterparts would sing these songs. Maybe that was the joke, responding to the people who accused metal of sexism by having a chick gleefully singing songs even naughtier than normal. I don't want

I don't want to give them too much credit though. This is a D-list band with songs that are average at best, getting by on a gimmick.
