I've only heard the title track off of this one and it's not bad. I hear the s/t is still the best. I love the s/t and if this is even close I may hunt it down.

From: r.s.-rocks Date: March 25, 2003 at 23:29
hey tim-this album is absolute great. if you like the 'stage dolls'-album you must have this too. there is only one problem: the cd is extremely rare. i could only find a vinyl-album so i burn a cd-r of that. not as good as an original-cd bud better than nothing. i had more luck on the first album 'soldier`s gun'- i own this album as an original-cd. bud it is not as good as 'commandos'.

From: TIM Date: March 25, 2003 at 23:50
I may buy an lp too r.s.-rocks. That cd is hard to find.

From: jsmnavarro Date: July 27, 2003 at 10:00
Uf!! Super hard to find cd, but absolute great!! My fav. are 'Heart to heart' (what a rockin'song!), 'Young hearts', 'Magic' (it's just...magical!!), 'Who's lonely now', 'Yesterday's rain' (that's a POWER ballad!!, like Torstein Flakne said once), 'Don't look back', 'Commandos', 'Rock you'...the ENTIRE cd!! A MUST BUY!!! jsmnavarro@lycos.com

From: jsm Date: August 7, 2003 at 9:26
Ebay average price: $8.92 jajaja!!!

From: dale Date: October 3, 2003 at 3:59
i own this original cd. and it does rock from top to bottom. great slow song 'magic'...the cd was hard as hell to find and i found 3 of them and one of them on ebay went for around $300. this cd is a MUST!!! i also have some demos of the band that were not released and these are just as great....although the sound quality is lacking!!!

From: r.s.-rocks Date: October 9, 2003 at 6:43
Ebay average price $ 8.92 ? I can`t believe it! I think that is an error: must be 89.2 or was it the price for a vivyl- album ? I would go to hell and back if someone sell this album to me for ' 8.92.(Ha, ha);-)

From: TIM Date: October 9, 2003 at 16:13
Easy explanation. Click on the price above and you'll see it's a cassette. These prices are not programmed manually but done by a search engine. The only way they can be fixed is for Dan or myself to go in and do it manually which takes forever. Don't ever take the prices at face value- click on them and check what has been averaged. Shelter S/T is underpriced as well if I remember right. Haven't heard the whole album by these guys but 'Commandos' is pretty cool.

From: r.s.-rocks Date: October 11, 2003 at 20:44
tim, you`re right- it`s a stupid tape. no wonder the price is that low. i search for the original cd for years- with no result. i think i would pay $ 150 if i find one. my hope is a re- release. so maybe someday that would happen. pray to the gods of rock!

From: TIM Date: October 11, 2003 at 20:53
Kristian, Great Dane, or Scandinavia may be able to help you. I want one also. It shows up on Ebay very rarely.

From: TIM Date: October 11, 2003 at 21:03
I just emailed them at this address: stagedolls@stagedolls.com and told them fans from this site were looking for this release. You may want to email them personally. Hopefully we'll hear from them .

From: Great Dane Date: October 12, 2003 at 3:32

From: r.s.-rocks Date: October 12, 2003 at 20:59
Hi Tim! That is a good idea. I also sent a mail to them and ask for a re-release. And if anyone had an original- cd of this album for sale: Feel free to write me at 'rasta111@gmx.de'.

From: Lynchomaniac Date: May 1, 2004 at 11:06
The E-bay average is way off here I'm afraid! Extremely hard to find, and a great album but not their best!

From: TIM (2) Date: July 13, 2004 at 4:46
Can't believe this fetches this much money, and is really not even their best album (plus you can get 4 of the 9 actual songs on the 'Stories We Could Tell' compilation). This was certainly a giant leap sound-wise from 'Soldiers Gun' toward what the 'S/T' would sound like. Great keys on 'Heart to Heart' and 'Yesterday's Rain', and 'America' is a great tune, but the second half is not that strong. A very good album, but much better was to follow... 8/10.

From: TIM (2) Date: July 14, 2004 at 4:30
P.s. I have a different copy of this, from Bigtime records in the U.S that was actually released in 1987. It has a different (and much better) cover than above, but does look like an official release. Anyone have the same, or know if mine's an original?

From: Ralfster Date: August 13, 2004 at 5:55
Hi Tim (2), the Bigtime records one with the white cover (much better, agreed!) is an original of course. It's the international release that was partly re-mixed (for the better if you ask me). I have the Bigtime vinyl at home. Mine's made in Germany and even lists a catalogue number for the CD. However I've never seen CD copies of the Bigtime version, only the Grappa records ones. So the big question now would be: Do you actually own a CD or vinyl version?

From: TIM (2) Date: August 13, 2004 at 7:05
Hey Ralfster, thanks for the info. I do indeed have the CD, which I paid hardly anything for quite some time ago. In my opinion they should have fully remixed it as this type of music really needs a big sound, but whatever the value of it I still believe they've made better albums than this ('Dig', S/T, 'Get A Life')... Still, am pleased to hear mine's an original!

From: dazbuff Date: September 8, 2004 at 4:41
hey tim 2. i think you have a real gem there, i have an original cd of commandos (grappa cd). i found a tape of commandos (big time version) and the remix and sound quality is better on the tape. it's like the grappa cd was recorded at a low level or something. one thing i noticed on the tape version is the cover is different than the record (bigtime) the stick faces were rotated in the back ground colors. so i am wondering if your cd is different from the tape and record from bigtime.

From: z4roxx Date: January 3, 2005 at 20:42
I really don t know why this'Grappa records'don t do the permission to re-issue this release,it's a shame! They must do to everyone the possibility to get this cd because Stage dolls for me an awesome band and I can t work 2 weeks to pay this cd!ahahahahaha!!Hey'Grappa guys'wake up!!'Grappa'in italian is the liquor...any comparison???ahahahahahahahaha!!!

From: The Dolphin Date: September 28, 2005 at 14:10
I saw a white alternative cover of this cd.Anyone knows if is it an original version or a second release?thanks

From: ashen_light Date: November 27, 2005 at 13:50
Awesome release, but the glory had yet to come with their S/T album. 'Heart to Heart' and ' Yesterday's Rain' are outstanding!!! Too bad it's very expensive.

From: swriter Date: November 28, 2005 at 16:25
is there a remaster coming on this anytime soon, I can't afford a million dollars for this one!!!! ha

From: swriter Date: October 21, 2006 at 21:31
the remaster is finally here!!!!!!! this is not bad, not sure if it is worth all the hype and all the crazy prices this one once brought, but still good, I like Get a Life much better, but this is just fine!!!

From: z4roxx Date: November 3, 2006 at 12:52

Universal Music - Norway!!

From: z4roxx Date: December 21, 2006 at 13:45
Sincerely I would a true comment about this cd.Here's what I think about these guys:'soldier's gun'is a decent one with 2/3 great song,'stripped'contains some great melodick tunes and some decnt riff, nothing else.'Stage dolls'is maybe their best cd,very good but not essential or awesome,I didn t hear the last one, yet. So'Commandos'is a cd to buy???Thanks!ahaha why the front cover is different?Grappa's internal problems?ahahahahah

From: BIG-TIME Date: May 21, 2007 at 13:56
Is it me? but I think these guys are complete crud dont like the vocals, there like a poor mans Bryan Adams the song's lack...well anything! like Yesterday's Rain and Commandos awfull, the chorus in Young Hearts makes me laugh it's that bad there just not for, me try Jeff Paris instead...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: aceisback Date: September 17, 2007 at 5:49

From: hair metal again Date: October 24, 2010 at 9:20

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 24, 2012 at 18:00
Not a killer album but surely it covers the expectatives needed to satisfy the listeners...Hard Rock but with an almost poppy feel or should i say it vice versa ...anyway a pleasant one and that's what is the important thing...tracks???...i'd go for these ones 'Heart To Heart','Commandos'(catchy),'Young Hearts'(catchy)& 'Don't Look Back'...their next self titled album(third one of the band's career)is the one that made a big explosion worldwide...86/100

From: DazBuFF Date: February 24, 2012 at 2:29
This is a really great cd. Now I have the big time version cd, the original grappa cd, and the universal music - Norway cd. I love it!

From: MelodicMetal4Ever Date: April 20, 2016 at 12:13
I realize that a LOT of time has passed but if someone is still looking for the Commandos" Cd there are a FEW right now on e-bay. Maybe its their re-issue. Keep It Rockin' And Long Live Metal!

From: tomdwa Date: April 10, 2020 at 19:05
Certainly a step in the right direction compared to their debut album, but no masterpiece. Heart to heart and the title track Commandos are the clear highlights here.

From: juan carlos Date: April 11, 2020 at 16:13
An Absolutely Super Hyper Mega Ultra Classic AOR album of all-times in my book indeed!!!! From start to finish a delicious slice of Mighty AOR. Period! 100/100

From: Eric Date: April 27, 2022 at 17:16
According to someone close to the band, just to set things straight, "Commandos" was never ever released on CD in US. So Big time CDs are just that, very nicely done bootlegs. However, it fueled the band to approve the official reissue and remastered Universal Music Norway (Universal 985 773-2) CD in 2006. This reissue has the very best sound quality of this album (I compared to the US remix but that 87 mix was not done properly). The band prefers the original cover artwork and mix too, and those were used for the reissue 20 years later. This original mix is also on all compilation albums. First album was rock & roll, this second rather soft AOR, and then came two very good albums (s/t and Stripped) that was a mix of AOR and rock, both with a fantastic sound/production. Nine neat AOR tunes on this one, where the two singles "Heart to heart" and title track "Commandos", with "Yesterday's rain" and "Young Hearts" might be the best tracks.
