Names, that you drop the "Y" from after you turn 60. Jeffy, Ricky, Bobby, Freddy, Skippy, and of course Davy. Side note: I never trust a guy named Angel or Buddy. It's been a 7 year itch for Vain since their last album 'Rolling with the Punches (2017)'. Davy Vain has one of those immediately recognizable voices like Mark Slaughter, that I can take in limited amounts before it starts to wear on me. 80's trivia, Mr. Vain from San Francisco produced the first Death Angel record. After giving this record a few spins, I was surprised as this may be Vain's most glam/sleaze sounding record since "No Respect" (1989). The album for me takes off on the second half with the track "Holding On For Love" from the band's indie EP release Vain – Holdin' On For Love (1988) (demo track redone/remastered). Ashley Mitchell (bass) is the only band member that's been around since the debut, but this feels like a classic sounding Vain record, the best IMO since Enough Rope (2011) and worth checking out. |
