Most of my friends thought this album sucked, but I loved it. I remember seeing the video for Freight Train and was blown away by the vocals and Micheal-Angelo's two neck guitar playing. For anyone who just wants no brainer heavy metal, this is the album.

There's only so much talent a band needs!! I can't tell you any band that needs a singer to scream his ass off to be great!! and why do you have to play two guitar necks at the same time to prove how great you are?? Wasted time This band is an absolute JOKE!! No band needs this much talent!! Use your talent TASTEFULLY!!! Don't try to break records!! Music is about melody and heart!! Not showing how flexible your fingers and vocal chords are!! This was a complete waste of expensive studio time!!

Kool music and lyrics, but I still can't get over the vocals. Jim Gillette is an awesome vocalist, but he needs to stay in one vocal range. That high pitched stuff totally killed the songs. I saw Michael Angello on Headbangers Ball years ago, and he is one serious guitarist. He had a 4 neck something, and totally shredded it. even backwards and upside down!! He's incredible. If you can ignore the high pitched screams, this is a great cd.

I have to agree with T-BONE on this one!! Extra cool music!! The guitars on this album are blistering awesome, but the vocals are horrible!! You can tell Jim G. spent a lot of time in the studio!! If you can overlook the vocals, this album rocks!!!!

From: Don |

Absolutely awful. The high pitch screams are actually off key, which is why they sound more like King Diamond's falsetto. These dopes took themselves way too seriously. But hey, Gillette married Lita Ford, so he can't be a total idiot.

I'm sure somewhere out there exsists a worse band than Nitro, but I can't say that I've heard one. Anyone involved with the making, producing, or selling of OFR should be banned from the music industry forever. Actually, they should be imprisoned for crimes against humanity. The fact that anyone could look at these losers and say "yeah, lets sign them" is amazing to me. I've always expected to find out that this record was a "joke" record put out by a bunch of guys who were kidding. Sadly, it's

Anyone who likes the Angelo style but thinks OFR is way too much should get ahold of the Gunnin' for Glory CD sold directly by Angelo. There are three tracks on it by an outfit by "The Michael Angelo Band" that are simply superb. It gives you an idea of what could have been with these guys.

These guys sound like Roxx Gang on LSD and laughing gas. They kind of remind me of Vain- the vocals didn't match the tunes. T-BONE, SHAG, HG, and Desslar pretty much summed this album up. They are cheap if you want to find out for yourself.

Michael Angelo's UNBELIEVABLE guitar soloing is the only redeeming value to Nitro's first cd, 'O.F.R.' ("Out-Fucking-Rageous", for those who are interested on what the acronym stands for). It is truly the most INCREDIBLE & unbeatable soloing you will have ever heard in your entire life--Angelo has yet to be put to shame. Does it sound good? Not always. Besides Michael, 'O.F.R.' sucks big time & it is totally uninteresting. Again, buy this only for the most ASTONISHING guitarist of all-time, M.A.
|
From: Reno |
Date: April 27, 2002 at 7:20 |
I'll agree with Dokken for the most part. I remember seeing the episode of Headbangers ball that T-BONE was talking about. Michael Angelo played the 4 neck guitar every which way but loose and didn't miss a note. Some people call it talent and others would call it an angry insect buzzing around, but i'd like to see someone copy him. Jim Gillette has a very unique and wide vocal range, but It's too over the top sometimes.
|
From: TIM |
Date: April 28, 2002 at 0:14 |
There's no denying that these guys have talent. However, being technically proficient doesn't mean they put out great music, write great songs, or make good choices. I'd love to be able to play like Michael Angelo, but this cd still sucks overall. By the way, can see Michael's skills in the horror movie "Shock'em Dead" with Traci Lords.

Michael Angelo's New band is "C4" with a new singer (not like Jim G.) and it is fantastic. The vocals are what I've been waiting for all these years. Of course Michael Angelo's guitar is incredable. Classic example of a talented band with no idea what to do with it. Michael Angelo set a world record for speed playing guitar. Jim Gilette could break a glass by singing. Bobby Rock is an energetic drummer. T.J. Racer had awesome hair. Together, they couldn't write a song to save their lives. The glam thing was just that, a gimmick for the album and one video. From what I heard, they totally ditched the look for tour. Judging by the next album.....I believe the rumors. Not good.

I, like most people, don't give 2 shits for this OTT bunch of third stringers. Bonus points for bangin' Lita and the 6 necked guitar. I for one am very glad, yes my dear friend. Nitro is a MUST HAVE! Pomp/AOR/Ska at it's finest. Freddy, you are a freak! And I love you for it! I failed to mention the hint of Sgt Pepper's influence I hear in Jimmy Gillette's falsetto. Like Pink Floyd meets a stun gun to the nuts. Michael Angelo's (real name?) scowls while playing the multiple neck axe during the "Freight Train" video should be studied by actors everywhere. I'd rather listen to Tigertailz or Wrathchild UK or a garbage disposal.

i hope they actually write some SONGS this new release you speak of. showing off ubelievable skills is one thing, putting it all together to make good tunes is another. i dont ming 2 or 3 songs on an album where everyone is screaming and playing their instruments 555 miles an hour, but a whole album of it? i bet these guys could make decent songs if they stoped showing off. musical talent has as much to do with songwriting as it does showing off. listen to manowar to hear it done perfect

it's kind of simple: you like good taste guitar playing and songwriting? forget 'bout this album, better buy some Scott Henderson cd. you love guitar "pyrotechniques" and everything that is cool about heavy music (earpiercing screams, etc, you know...) taken over the limit, even if it gets annoying and ridiculous? you'll love this album... but the production on this album SUCKS! very cheap sounding. Angelo is great, also check Shawn Lane for warp-speed licks.

If people don't like 'em that's fine but saying they had no talent at all is 100% bullsh*t. The style they chose was just not your style. This album has a lot of great moments, but it seems many of you are missing the point. The whole purpose of this CD, according to Angelo, was to be the most over the top performers in the scene at that time. And with that, they have succeeded. I am absolutely amazed that anyone takes this band seriously, much less endorses it as anything like "awesome straight-ahead metal!!!" as some here do. The title track is abominable, as is its guitar solo, which comprises mostly tremolo picking with few actual note changes. It is incomprehensible to me that you fans of this ludicrous glam-metal band are so enchanted with gimmicks that are so far beyond cheesy, beyond silly, and utterly devoid of musical content.

Forget what the detractors would have you believe, Nitro just did it louder, faster and higher than anyone else. Yeah, Jim's voice takes some getting used to (I think he sounds awesome when singing at a low pitch, as in 'Machine Gun Eddie') but fuck it, it's GLAM ROCK! Party music! Not something you're supposed to sit down with during periods of deep introspection! Drink yourself into a stupor and just try to keep up with Jim, that's what Nitro are all about.

If you look up the phrase ove the top in the dictionary, there should be a picture of this album. Insanely high vocals mixed with a guitarist who plays faster than the speed of light and a weird production job (where's the bass?). Not really an album to rate songwise, as these are mostly jokes, but the sound is just so interesting, it is a must have. 6/10

As great as a singer Gilette is, and he's an awesome singer and as fucking brilliant a guitar player michael angelo is, this album is boring and lame. No songs really stood out in my mind, and the mix is absolutely terrible. All the songs are like a pop version Yngwie but with just wailing vocals. With the talent of this band, it could have been so much more than this album turned out to be.

Totally not my style. I don't understand how anyone can dig this music. FIrst of all, the production was so bad, it sounded like the drums were recorded underwater, the guitar was recorded on a mountaintop and sped way up, and the vocals sound like the were the product of someone shoving a knife through their foot. Paste them together with Elmer's glue and ketchup and you get Nitro. Anyone hear Mozart's S/T release? Just picture that on SPEED and this is what you get. 1.5/10

Simply some of the most terrifying songs I ever let into my ears. This band is savagely bad and I feel sorry for the equipment they used to record it and anyone who ever had to hear this. The guitarist is one of those guys you know can play, but I couldn't give a lesser f*ck because the songs are just SO bad... and the vocals are described nicely by Kip. I'd just rather not comment on them because then I have to remember what they were like. Oh, the pain! Worst ever!

O, boy! Love the "reviews" here, specially that of Kip. Anyway, it's already official(for all I care), Michael Angelo is the best guitar shredder out there, says Guitar One.

Guitar One, is a great Mag, but way off. Angelo is a great guitarist. But I can think of numberous guitarist who are both better and faster and more technically diverse.

Geoff - So could you write an album with the same level of musicianship? No, so fuck off. I can see why people wouldn't like it, but I can't see how people can't recognise the talent going on here. The vocal harmonies are fucking fantastic, the solos are intense, the drums are amazing and the bass...well lets just say TJ Racer was as good on bass as Angelo is on guitar. Yngwie is the best songwriter in my opinion, but Angelo is by far the best PLAYER

Azza, I would appreciate if you could highlight the part in my posts on this band where I said they couldn't play. I never said that and although these are personally some of the worst songs I ever heard I don't doubt the musicianship, though I stand by my statements that the vocals are simply as bad as it ever gets. There's many differing opinions I respect, but when someone labels Jim Gillette the best voice in metal I immediately cannot respect another word he says, though I'm sure you care

Geoff, you're so right about this band,I've waited to reply to Azza because I thought you'd write on it again.Nothin'bout musicians but vocals and guitars solos(Michael you're great but...wait a minute, you're most speed as"Flash"man!ahahaha!)are simply horrible.Songs wouldn't be so bad but these 2 elements ruin all the other good ideas here,IMO.

Is it just me, Jim Gillette sound like Elmo from Sesame Street when he hits the high notes? Michael Angelo is the shredding god though, I will say.

most of you lame tards werent even around when this band hit the scene. they were over the top in an era of excess, that was their gig. they wanted to be the loudest, fastest, the most OUT F@#KING RAGOUS, and they were!

Yeah, Auto, they wanted to be that. Unfortunately, their songs sucked. I heard that Michael Angelo's a real nice guy. No ego with him. He's truly talented. Jim Gillete was truly talented. Bobby Rock was Bobby Rock. T.J. Racer had cool hair. The band, though, couldn't write a decent song to save their lives. Hence, you get this, O.F.R. Have bought it twice. Second time was worst than the first.

I think the second album was much better than this (gets behind a bunker, cause I know Nitro fans are gonna start throwing shit at me). The production was stronger, and the songs were a lot better.

Ahh sorry for what I wrote back there, I dunno what I was thinking, went way over the top and my post should be deleted. Seriously though, this album isn't a mature effort, i'll say that much, but it wern't meant to be. I just feel the vocal harmonies are spot on and at times it sounds incredible. If you can see past how over the top this album is you might be able to enjoy some of it, there are some fine moments on this album.

I'm a huge fan of Michael Angelo, I saw him last year and I'm about to see him again this week, and I was very interested to know the Nitro sound, but I must confess that I'm so disapointed with I've heard. I could not believe my ears, the sound is ridiculous!!!! How can somebody consider Jim Gillette a good vocal??? The only thing that I have to say is: If you like real Hard Rock bands like Van Halen, Gotthard and something don't waste your time. Purchase some Angelo Solo stuff

Yeah Michael Angelo is a shreder He can play very fast, so what? he don't know nothing about writing even decent songs! He got the Vinnie Vincent Syndrome but VV Invasion is a better band. This is so ridiculous and over the top, that the only thing I can do is laugh ( or cry?).Remainds me the most overthetop moments from VVI albums. Better go to do clynics Mike!. PS: the singer sucks too, and his hairdo...C'mon!!!

Touch and go this one. Some songs are brilliant like Long Way From Home and Double Trouble but some are terrible like Machine Gunn Eddie. The guitars are of course awesome because Michael Angelo Bation does them! It's interesting to see Bobby Rock in this one too as this was in between the time he left Vinnie Vincent Invasion and joined Nelson. Good album with many funny moments and crazy shredding.

Kinda agressive release!!!...killer metal riffs courtesy of Michael Angelo and a Jim Gillete that reminds me of King Diamond(not phisically but vocally obviously )..."Shot Heard 'Round The World" & "O.F.R." are my favourite ones but also "Freight Train"( ),"Machine Gunn Eddie","Bring It Down" & "Fighting Mad"...90/100

Really, love it or hate it, Nitro is an essential piece of 80s hard rock history. It's where excess reached its absolute peak. Those helium high, glass breaking vocals have to be heard to be believed. Then there is the ludicrous double necked guitar theatrics. Really, I wish I had been around to see them live somewhere. And somehow Jim Gillette got married to the smoking hot Lita Ford. This is, for better or worse, the summit of what was termed "hair metal".

pretty good debut for NITRO in the late 80 s ,a unique band that is probably the most over the top act of the hard rock genre !everything is in excess from fast guitar shredder Michael Batio till the the high octane Jim Gillette s vocals and their extreme hair looks!oh man this is quite strange but is somehow a cult release!"double trouble","nasty reputation" and "long way from home" are the highlights!
