Good melodic rock cd, they reminds of Intuition in style. The singer is good and production is also clear, but there is something missing...the big refrains! My favourite tracks must be the smooth 'She's Walking' and the more uptempo 'Broken Promises'.All in all I think this is a nice record, I'll give it 7,5/10.

Picked this up before I went to London the other week--I am kinda gun-shy when picking up a cd from a band I dont know much about--but hey, the payoff is when its great .. and Blind Date is no shortage of great tunes--were I to categorize, same style as XYZ, guitars not too far from Back for the Attack/Lynch Mob CD's--and the 1st track starts off rite in yr face guitars/drums--I think the last track is a live one

Who'd have guessed one of 2004's top 5 releases would fall into my lap in the last week of the year? Here I believe we have 3 tracks recorded in 1991 (awesome songs) and 7 new songs (spectacular). Imagine the band Pride with a more solid drum sound, and that is what these guys sound like. This CD is simply outstanding. 'She's walking' had me singing for days, after a single listen, 'Don't wait up' is a perfect opener and if you like 80's stlye melodic hard rock, this is the PERFECT CD for you!

I agree with you Geoff. One of the 5 best releases of 2004. Essential for all melodic hard rock fans. I have played this CD at least a dozen times enjoying all the hooks and melodies. I would recommend this to all. Aloha!

I seldom do this, but I must return again with praise for this CD. I'd only just heard it when I posted, but, like Suurf, I can't stop playing it. Not a filler even remotely in sight and every song blows my mind. 'Can you feel it' is closest to filler, but even that one contains such perfect verses and a redeeming feature in the chorus. I must recommend this to all. Each song comes out firing perfectly with musical perfection / riffs, and all verses are perfect, leading to mostly killer choruses

Agreed, this is one of the best releases in quite some time, i had the 3 track demo previously (thanks Jim!) and if i had to pick a band getting released on cd it'd be this one, turns out it did, hurray! 10/10 ? yeah, probably

Hey, this one is really great! A great example of melodic rock, in the style of Danger Danger (first album), XYZ and Dokken. Great songs, great production and big choruses! If you are a lover of the genre, YOU MUST BUY THIS ONE!!!!

Great melodic rock - not a bad tune on the DISC - all the songs have the chorus that gets your head shakin' Pure 80's lovefest.

This one did not live up to the hype for me. While is not a bad collection of 80's songs, I expected more. Check out Big Bad Wolf, Attraction and Flame for better stuff. This is watered down to say the least. While I not opposed to listening to it and won't sell it, I thought it was going to be much better. I compare it to the Amsterdam debut. It is just ok in my book. There is much better stuff out there. Keep looking...

From: Geoff |

Wow Chad, hope you keep listening. To each their own, but I still play this most days and personally I think it is far superior to Big Bad Wolf as that is a great CD, but has quite a few fillers. IMO, none here at all. Attraction is a good comparison- both spectacular... but Flame? A decent debut, but this is far more consistent in my mind and urinates all over their 2nd CD. Flame are more average hard rock as opposed to soaring melodic quality of this. And Amsterdam weren't nearly as melodic

how could this one be compared with pure hard rock like big bad wolf? this simply is excellent melodic rock with catchy tunes and remarkable songs. not perfect, but much better than average. 8/10

Hey Geoff- I will keep listening to this one.I just can't seem to get into it though. Usually after the first three spins or so, an album will grab me. This one however has not.In regards to Flame, I quiet enjoy the second album over their debut. While some of the songs are remade on the second, its overall sound is better.I just kinda threw Amsterdam in comparison as it sorta rivals this one IMO as neither really grabbed me.You are right, sometimes when comparisons are thrown in it gets dicey..

Blind Date - Mix equal parts early Danger Danger with early Enuff Z Nuff with just a splash of early Dokken. Throw in CD player and spin rapidly. Enjoy in a crowded room (majority female) with several beer chasers.....

This is one of the best cd's I've purchased...ever! The Danger Danger comparisons are right on the money, plus (& it may be only me), but I swear the 5th song 'Broken Promises' sounds like Winger. An excellent cd, not a bad track to be found

I spent 88-89 following this band around in Austin (Backroom) and still have & regularly listen to the 3 cut cassette that I purchased at the shows. This is one of my all time favorite bands...period. I am in shock that I am now finding them on this website with a newly released CD. I am in Austin and will be calling them soon to hopefully check them out live again. 'Can You Feel It' is one of the songs that I have always remembered, yet had no recording. I give this cd a definite 10/10

Just to add - if you think that the CD is good, they used to reproduce it all perfectly live. I would be hard pressed to name two guitar players that sounded better together than JB and Mark. Vocal harmonies were great and they just had all around exciting, upbeat shows.

Agree with aorjocke on this, is kind of a mix of the first 2 Danger Danger discs. This type of music really screams out for a big production though, and if someone had been brave enough to throw more money at this then it would've been a winner. A little like WigWam, this is a mix of Glam & Melodic rock with 'Broken Promises' and 'Without your Love' standing out IMO, but this is generally very consistent throughout. And the songs really grow with each listen. It's just the sound quality... 7.5/1
|
From: Geoff |
Date: March 16, 2005 at 5:14 |
Wow Tim (2)... no offence mate but you must be really hard to please. Obviously the three demo tracks here do not contain an amazing production job, but honestly how could the rest sound better? For the recording budget these guys would have had I honestly believe this stands alongside any major release. Very clear sound, mixed well - the drums, guitars, vocals and everything is very clear and well defined... Sorry mate, I agree with you a lot but disagree 100% with you here.
|
From: TIM (2) |
Date: March 16, 2005 at 5:29 |
Geoff, I do like this but it needs more layers - harmonies/keyboards. It also follows a very straight forward MHR formula, which is great, but maybe just one or two big melodic numbers (like on the first Danger Danger or Intuition) with a bit of variety and this would've blown me away. Oh, and a big lighters-in-the-air ballad like 'Don't Let Me Go' or 'One Step from Paradise' etc. Excellent album, and I know I'm being ultra-picky, but enough niggles to slightly detract from the disc IMHO.
|
From: Geoff |
Date: March 16, 2005 at 5:39 |
Yeah, I can appreciate that Tim (2). I must admit I do think 'Don't wait up' is the biggest melodic rock number in a long time, and 'When I'm alone' is not far behind. 'Daddys little girl' and 'Dreaming' are right up there too, IMO of course. Agree that I would also have loved to hear a huge ballad, but 'She's walking' chills me in a way few ballads do and fits the bill for me. But yeah, appreciate your views and glad to see it still gets your recommendation I want a 2nd album from these guys!

this is a good one, I like this one alot, very 80's melodic hard rock. You can add a touch of aor and glam to amount to an original sound I really can not compare to anyone. Maybe a lighter Dokken with the vocals up in the mix and a touch of keys. Not sure what songs r new and whick ones r older??? and I guess the picture is from 91? haha. Don't Wait Up is a great opener, great song. Can u Feel It, Broken Promises, We Keep Falling, Dreaming(great ballad) I was surprised by this gem!!!

From: MelodicBoy |

Like this, but not quite as much as everyone else here. Nice vocals, and the guitars seem creditable, but I think the choruses need to be a little bigger. DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL is a good example-chorus kind of lets the tune down, IMO. Still, I salute any band trying to keep my beloved pop metal genre alive in today's musical climate. Would love to see a second CD from these guys. Anyone who loves the Blind Date CD needs to check out Attraction's "Get Up 'N' Shake"-another D2 sounding band.

I think this one with Bittersweet is the best demo material ever put on cd.Unfortunately Bittersweet quality recording is much inferior than Blind Date but great anyway IMO.Blind Date was a marvellous example of how it was possible makin’great music around 80/90’s,I hear Danger Danger and Harem Scarem in these guys, some killer songs like”Everybody’s baby”and other ones, maybe sometimes they miss of personality but this is a great one, finally on cd for all melodick rock lovers!!!

This is awesome solid Hard Rock. This in my current top 10 that I play on my car CD system. Hot tracks are the killer Can You Feel It, She's Walking, Daddy's Little Girl, Broken Promises with a great guitar solo, Everybody's Baby, the awesome Without Your Love and When I'm Alone. I played this at an outdoors car show and the girls went crazy listening to this band. I would like to hear more. Maybe they have some unreleased material or a live CD/DVD they can release. Rated 9/10.

Found this at a Tower Records sale a few years back and wondered who decided to release this. There's a few good ones like "When I'm Alone," "Broken Promises," and "Everybody's Baby" but it's still not amazing or even that good. It's not as bad as, say, Letchen Grey or something, but it's definitely watered down and could be a lot better.

If you are into the likes of Blue Tears and Danger Danger then you'll love Blind Date surely!!!...Melodic Rock with some AOR touches here and there is what this band delivered on this,so far, only release of the band(or as far as i know)...anyway tracks such as "Don't Wait Up"(catchy),"She's Walking"(great softie),"Daddy's Little Girl"(catchy),"We Keep Falling In Love"(nice) & "Without Your Love"(probably the real highlight of the album) will put a in your face of happiness...good radio friendly songs backed up with a very melodic and subtle singer(Buster Grant)...pretty enjoyable...87/100
