Yes we have had plenty of compilations before but at least this one serves a purpose being the soundtrack to the new film. Where this stands apart from the others is it devotes most of its playtime to the first two albums with only 1 track each for Theatre and Girls, and three for Feelgood. Beyond that we get 3 all new studio originals and a cover song. Unsurprisingly nothing appears from the self titled album, Tattoo, Swine and Saints. Looking forward to the films debuting tomorrow and going on this soundtrack I am guessing the bulk of it will concentrate on the early years as well.

I'm just glad that the movie, seemingly the last bit of long-unfinished Crue business, is finally complete. This is a band I enjoy, but one that I feel belongs in the '80's. The Corabi album was great in its own way, but that part of the band's story is a bit of a downer, the guys getting a very rude awakening upon its release. Since Vince's return (and some would say well before), they've become a caricature. It's time. But in true Crue fashion, they go out with another compilation, featuring four mediocre new songs that will be quickly forgotten, like most of their music since 1994. "Like A Virgin" almost works in an odd way: Vince and Madonna have a similar thin, nasal voice. But this song seems like little more than a deliberate eyepoke to longtime fans.

A David Lee Roth quote applies to the Crue's career in spades. "An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance" Take away the band's image and what do you have? You would think Motley would have at least one good track stashed away as the new songs on this soundtrack are weak. Especially Machine Gun Kelly (rapper extraordinaire) which must explain why he plays Tommy Lee in the "The Dirt" movie as well as singing on the title song. This biopic is released at least a decade too late as it lacks the magic of say "Rock Star", transporting you back in time to the 80's. It felt like watching a rated (R) TV version of the band's history. It should have been loaded with cameos from back in the day (CGI sunset strip mummy makeovers), not a stunt Ozzy (give me a break). For those who care there where all sorts of inaccuracies in this whitewashed portrayal of the band. The producers could have gotten the real Steven Adler for $50 to play himself who found Sixx on deaths door from a O.D.

I think I know what happened to Amelia Earhart,Jimmy Hoffa and the Lindbergh baby - Vince ate 'em.
