this is worth way more than 5 bucks . great hard rock album this is la guns best album

From: David Date: June 18, 2001 at 21:39
Execellent band, cheak out the song "Showdown (Riot On Sunset)". I Wish I could get my hands on their first album!

From: Krys Date: July 19, 2001 at 9:16
This CD KICKS ASS even though it's too polished and too long. A rawer sound and a trimming of the tracks could have made this a classic along the lines of G'N'R's Appetite For Destruction. Best Tracks(in order): 1. Rip And Tear 2. Never Enough 3. I Wanna Be Your Man 4. Malaria 5. Sleazy Come Easy Go Rating: 8.0

From: SleazyMusic Date: September 11, 2001 at 3:25
Cocked & Loaded is not good as the first album but it's a cool record: Rip and Tear is THE L.A. Guns song-philosophy... There are other cool tracks: 17 crash, Showdown or Wheels of fire but they tried to be closer to the MTV-appeal and I still prefer the debut 'cause it's fucking raw....Anyway: 8.0

From: 3rd_rail@37.com Date: October 22, 2001 at 8:45
this was a good comeback they finnally got air time with hits-rip and tear-never enough and of course ballad of jayne waws enough they later re-recorded it later on with different singer i give it a 8/10

From: Dragonfly Date: December 15, 2001 at 6:50
A great follow up to their first release. Easy to remember songs with outstanding playing. MTV and LA GUNS, alot of memories.

From: HG Date: February 16, 2002 at 19:46
Clearly their best CD, and they had many other good ones to choose from.

From: TIM Date: May 3, 2002 at 11:41
I liked this one the best as well. I liked Rip and Tear and Never Enough. The Ballad of Jayne never appealed to me. Do not waste your money on the reissue of this album!

From: Desslar Date: May 5, 2002 at 2:25
Some fun, raw songs and one of the best ballads ever. A little bit repetitive though, and the vocals seem a tad weak.

From: Mike Date: May 14, 2002 at 21:38
This one has to be a masterpiece: in my humble opinion in has the essence of that great sounding hard rock style of the late '80s. And a lot of awesome songs: "Rip N Tear", "Sleazy Come Easy Go", "Never Enough", "Showdown", "The Ballad Of Jayne", "Wheels Of Fire"... If you like the good old American hard/street rock, get this album

From: richierocker Date: May 28, 2002 at 22:14
This is a glam classic, these guys rock , seen them live a few times with the original lineup, and the played a lot of old material. If you like sleazeglam music, this is a must have.

From: RichieRocker Date: July 1, 2002 at 21:29
This is my favorite L.A Guns CD. not one bad song on this album, Everything about this album is awesome. Get it and crank it.

From: dokken6008 Date: August 9, 2002 at 4:46
L.A. Guns, after a sleazy hard rockin' bar rock debut, go commercial! Tom Werman being hired to produce the album has much to do with this, of course. 'Cocked & Loaded' is chalk full of great rockers including a good (but VERY over-rated) ballad. Personally, I enjoy 'Waking The Dead' a great deal more. It should also be noted that this cd's analog recording sound is in DESPERATE need of a remastering, and someone at the label is better off doing something about this sooner rather than later.

From: rocknutter2001 Date: August 15, 2002 at 10:09
l.a. guns follow up the excellent debut album with another great rocker and the outstabding ballad the ballad of jane god why they never got much success ill never know

From: dokken6008 Date: August 16, 2002 at 5:20
Why anyone gives a shit about that crappy over-rated ballad, I'll never know either.

From: HairMetalManiac Date: September 7, 2002 at 9:32
Not as Raw as the debut and more commercial as many have already stated. Still though, I dig this album and think it blows away any of the crap GNR put out after Appetite...Favs are: Rip & Tear, Sleazy Come Easy Go, Never Enough, Malaria, Magdalaine, and 17 Crash...these guys also rock live!!

From: Baris Date: September 12, 2002 at 2:50
More poppy and commercial than the first, but don't misunderstand, this is really pretty good enough. The music here is more clean, orderly and a bit softer. I think these guys made this album to attract more girls at the same time, they earned much money, and with this self-confidence they recorded a much much greater real rockin' one: "Hollywood Vampires". Yeah, A Good Tactic...

From: dokken6008 Date: September 26, 2002 at 7:08
If you're a big fan of 'Cocked & Loaded', check out 'Cocked & RE-Loaded'. It's pretty good. The only downside is that Phil's voice was a little out of practice at the time, but he's doing just effing great now. (Note: 'Cocked & Re-Loaded' is a Deadline release. It was a 2000 millennium album remake of the "classic" '88 'Cocked & Loaded' record. Just so you know...)

From: The Fizzy One Date: September 28, 2002 at 13:24
How I loved this album when I first got it in the summer of '90! How I saved up my change to buy the "Ballad of Jayne" cassette single two months earlier! I don't have the first LAG, but of the ones I do have, this is easily the best. THe only tracks that I don't completely love are the first two (could've done without "Letting Go" entirely) and "Wheels of Fire" doesn't stick with me. Despite being a niet little solo "I'm Addicted" could've stayed home too. A solid 9/10!

From: vics Date: January 11, 2003 at 9:11
tha ballad of jayne( shouldn't it be jane? ) .. one of my all time fav ballads ! wish i could get hold of the video ... i.e.if l.a.g. ever made one!

From: JizzyJizim Date: February 26, 2003 at 19:11
Yeah, they made a video for it, download it from Kazaa, I'm sure it's on there!

From: cole Date: June 14, 2003 at 22:17
this album sucks shit! only one good song (Ballad of Jane). not even worth a dollar. pure junk!

From: Gar Date: June 16, 2003 at 23:31
Sucks shit??? Pure junk??? Don't know what album you were listening to, cole, but it couldn't have been this one. Perhaps it was "Cocked and RE-Loaded"? That one's not bad either, but not as good as the real deal. This isn't my favorite LA GUNS album, but it is a great album nonetheless. Mostly good songs, with only a few fillers. Get it... you won't regret it!

From: vandervelde Date: July 18, 2003 at 18:06
Yeah Gar you have right...my countryman is too harsh for this album. It's not a masterpiece but a solid sleaze record. Has some superb songs like "Ballad.." or "Slap in the face"....have some fillers......but if you like sleaze this is good record.... Hey Cole which side of Wroclaw are you, i am from Psie Pole.......

From: Rycheage Date: September 6, 2003 at 19:37
Excellent sleaze glam rock. "Rip And Tear" and "Never Enough" are pure gems. "Ballad Of Jayne" is a masterpiece second to none. Pure genius.

From: Blue Tequila Date: October 25, 2003 at 12:17
Magdalaine is an outstanding song and easily my favorite with the mix of electric and acoustic guitars and the 6+ minutes it clocks in at almost seems to short! 17 Crash is another one to crank up. I like Never Enough though it has that "I'm Radio Friendly On Purpose" vibe all over it. Couldn't stand Ballad of Jayne when it first came out but it's grown on me now that I don't hear it 37 time a day.

From: TIM Date: October 25, 2003 at 19:14
Absolutely nothing wrong with being radio friendly. Some's good and some's bad just like anything else. There are good indies and bad indies. The cookie-cutter approach just doesn't work for me.

From: Blue Tequila Date: October 25, 2003 at 22:21
Sorry Tim but your post has me a little . I was referring to the fact that L.A. Guns with their "grab 'em by the balls" sleazy mean debut puts out their next album with a few watered down songs that are released as the singles. Don't get me wrong plenty of other bands follow the same formula but it was a little disappointing at the time to hear it from them. Sure with all releases some songs are good and some are bad but some are just a bit of a letdown. Just my opinion

From: TIM Date: October 26, 2003 at 1:12
No offence BT, I just get tired of hearing something is bad because it is "radio friedly"- that's not always the case.I didn't care for Ballad of Jayne either personally. I understand you liked the debut better but I liked the changeup and I thought the first one blew. Not saying you're wrong, but it wasn't my thing.

From: TIM Date: October 26, 2003 at 1:15
Make that "radio friendly."

From: tomcat Date: October 26, 2003 at 6:52
this sure is a classic item..i remember thinking it was way cool to include more than the standard 10 songs..my favorite song is 'never enough'..also remember how Nirvana ripped off the concept of that video for one of their videos..On the video for 'ballad of jayne' the members of la guns looked very cool, i never understood why Phil Lewis held that book in his hands..Anyway, no point of recommending this cd cos you already have it right?

From: TIM Date: October 26, 2003 at 10:34
Oh yeah, I have the Japanese pressing with a bonus track thanks to koogles and PJ. Actually, I do like "Ballad of Jayne," just not as much as the others. I think this whole album is great.

From: MJ Date: October 27, 2003 at 11:57
Yikes!! I've had this since maybe '92?? "Never Enough" was and still is my favorite! "Ballad Of Jayne" is good..... just not AS good...(to me!) Also love "Sleazy Come Easy Go". This CD got put away for years, pulled it out recently as LA Guns are coming to my state soon (I can't go )....now ...years later, it gets played almost every day!

From: TheRipper Date: January 27, 2004 at 5:21
Another 1989 classic here. My favorite LA Guns album. The track 'Malaria' is my fav lost gem on this one, but not many can deny 'Never Enough' or 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and many others on this consistent rocker of a CD!

From: jack Date: May 25, 2004 at 6:06
LA GUNS'S BEST ALBUM IN MY OPINION! THE FIRST ALBUM IS GOOD BUT THIS ONE IS BETTER. TRACII LEAVING GUN'N'ROSES IS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPEN TO HIM?OR IS IT?

From: charvel man Date: June 21, 2004 at 18:19
This is a great album but at least on the disc that I had the sound quality was terrible!!

From: Joan Date: July 26, 2004 at 19:20

From: Big Papa K Date: August 19, 2004 at 15:00
The high points on this one are among there best songs ever ("Ballad Of Jayne", "Never Enough", "Rip and Tear"), but this one contains just a little too much filler to match up with the debut. 8/10

From: Geoff Date: August 19, 2004 at 21:39
I guess this one probably remains my favourite LA Guns disc. Killer commercial hard rock and once again I enjoy every song. 'Rip and tear', 'Never enough', 'I wanna be your man' and the lovely 'Ballad of Jayne' are my faves. I used to love 'Sleazy come selazy go' too, and of course '17 crash'. Basically, it's just a killer hard rock album and nothing bad I can say about it at all!!!

From: Hairball John Date: November 26, 2004 at 21:32
We had a special request for "Never Enough" during this weeks Hairball John Radio Show and it made me smile remembering video. Check out the audio interview with drummer Steve Riley that we conducted in late 2003 at www.hairballjohn.com Listen to The Hairball John Radio show every week at www.hairballjohn.com for many of the lost classics and new kick ass tunes. The Hairball John Radio Show the past is back to kick your ass!

Number 2 in a short line of disappointments. No real musicianship here, extremely boring.

From: Harry Date: November 30, 2004 at 16:35
Ballad of Jayne?... What a poor ballad to call a ballad! In my opinion these guys always lacked talent - too raw, too "un-inspired!" They've always been a bit overrated.

From: scarecrow Date: December 6, 2004 at 22:09
i will talk about it but i gonna vomit on thoose who blacken and call it as a poor ballad.all right guys i wonder what will u call as a ballad instead of my precious song 'ballad of jayne'.

From: Date: December 16, 2004 at 22:12
The second masterpiece of the Guns, killer sleazy hard rock for rock n'roll maniacs.

From: gener8tr Date: February 7, 2005 at 14:01
NEVER ENOUGH is one of those 80's anthems that belongs on every metal-head's compilation disc.

From: Propane Date: February 20, 2005 at 18:08
Its true, I don't know fuck all about musicianship. Kill yourself Propane you moronic fuck.

From: Chad Date: March 11, 2005 at 23:24
The best of the LA Guns collection. From front to back, this one is just plain enjoyable. Its polished sleaze for sure. It has the ballad (Jayne) and the rockers (Rip and Tear, Slap in the Face) but also the (dare I say it?) pop song (Never Enough). Phil's voice is so cool. Tracii's guitars drip with melody. One of my top 10 albums ever.

From: Date: March 13, 2005 at 21:14
the best sleaze glam release, better than appetite for destruction!!!

From: TIM Date: March 14, 2005 at 21:03
I love this one, but have to disagree.

From: MIGUEL GUNS Date: April 4, 2005 at 15:10
ESTE DISCO FUE LO PRIMERO QUE ESCUCHE DE ELLOS Y ME PARECIO MUY POP PARA MI GUSTO DE AQUEL ENTONCES. PRONTO CAMBIE DE OPINION. 8/10.

From: Beikes Date: July 18, 2006 at 8:58
Thisi is considered the masterpiece of L.A. Guns, and indeed it is their best selling effort ever (3+ mill. copies). Awesome guitar-work and splendid songs all the way through. "Showdown (Riot On Sunset), "Seventeen Crash", "Rip 'N Tear", "Magdalaine" and "Never Enough" are just a few of the killer songs on this album - If ya don't own it yet, U R A Pussy!

From: dudemetal1 Date: August 24, 2006 at 0:26
Another Glam/Sleaze Classic!! A little too polished in the recording sound, but the songs are still killer....just wish Mike Clink or Andy Johns had produced it.

From: rockhardrock Date: March 26, 2007 at 16:41
L not nearly as good as GNR,but still great. That album is my fav.of them."rip and tear"tears you appart while you re listening it."never enough" is another classic."the ballad of jayne"is good ballad, but nothin so special as other ballads of that era.Bonus track kicks ass-i wonder why was it a bonus track?! But after all this is great sleaze hard rock record. Too bad they went down after Hollywood wampires album!

From: Buitre Date: December 18, 2007 at 7:26
This one is a little bit more "worked out" and polished than their first record, but it is packed with killer songs, Seazy come Easy go was a kind of personal anthem...back in the 80's

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 12:23
This is their best,a must have.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: July 8, 2008 at 19:00
This is the Other Gunners' best album by far. Some people complain about it being too "polished," but the sound is way better than on the debut. Plus, the songs are just catchier, more developed, adn just plain better. Plus, the tunes just have this air of darkness about them, behind all the neon dazzle and chrome shine. I really like every song, but favorites would be most of the first side, plus "Magdalaine" and "Wheels Of Fire" from the second. These guys tend to do something a little differetn on just about every album, but this is THE L.A. Guns release to have.

From: metalmaniac777 Date: January 15, 2011 at 9:41
Sophomore release from L.A. Guns brings that lascivious L.A. sleaze-metal sound and the hard rock world thanks them for it. The band traded the raw, primitive hunger of their debut for a more focused, polished, and commercialized aggression. Not quite a classic, but definitely a keeper, thanks to a stunning string of songs in "Slap in the Face," Rip and Tear," "Sleazy Come Easy Go," and "Ballad of Jayne," any one of which are good enough to make a dead rocker's dick hard. These guys managed to check off all the expected components of an 80s commercial metal record while avoiding sounding like copycats, crafting a style that was of its time, yet retained a unique identity. A few too many filler tracks prevent this from scoring a perfect hard rock bulls-eye, but it definitely hits the target.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 15, 2011 at 14:03
In one of his books, Martin Popoff said something about how L.A. Guns, with reference to this album, had a sense of 'darkness, alienation, loneliness in crowds." And while you can read a lot of Popoff and think "What the fuck is he talking about?" you can listen to Cocked and Loaded and hear it in the songs. It's not "Yaaay, let's get everybody together and hav ea pool party!" music, it's more "I'm gonna get laid and then I'm jumping on my motorcycle and ridin' the hell outa here!" It has an angry edge that Motley Crue often aspired to as well, but without going over the top. Now y'all are wondering what the fuck I'M talking about.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: May 30, 2011 at 11:31
A lot of times, people will come on sites like this and sing the praises of a disc from 20 years ago, but not actually listen to it all that much anymore. Like Back in Black or Van Halen's debut or something, you know it's great, but you've heard so many times, you don't need to play it that often anymore. I love late-'90's sleaze-metal, but a lot of mmy old cassettes are collecting dust. Cocked And Loaded is one of the elite few to still get frequent spins around here, and a permanent spot on my MP3 player, and I have yet to get tired of it.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: June 20, 2011 at 20:56
This one is considered(if not)their best album ever recorded...indeed it brings some classics of the band being "The Ballad Of Jayne" one of them and a big hit back in the day...other precious tracks are "Slap In The Face","Rip & Tear","Never Enough","Give A Little","17 Crash" & the bonus "I Wanna Be Your Man"...87/100

From: edwithmj Date: January 28, 2015 at 13:18
This just fails to recapture the energy and emotion of the first disc. Letting Go and Slap in the Face do very little for me and I usually skip them. Rip and Tear is a wonderful, loud and sleazy track that I can listen to again and again and Sleazy Come Easy Go is very catchy while retaining the sound that I think defines the band. Never Enough is obviously my favourite: simply a brilliant track that has so much lyrical meaning and power. Malaria is pure filler and imensely skippable. The Ballad of Jayne is a great ballad and one of the band's best attempts at the subgenre. Magdalaine is good but sounds slightly alternative so I don't mind skipping it sometimes. I'm Addicted is a decent solo and 17 Crash is the final highlight here and is a good sleazy rocker. Not as good as the debut but still a damn good album by anyone's standards.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: February 7, 2015 at 20:33
Responding to EdwithMJ's comment: To me, songs like "Malaria," "Magdalaine" and "Wheels Of Fire" bring a different flavor to the album. On the debut, with the exception of the ballad and instrumental, every song has the same atmosphere, which is why I find it a little monotonous in the late going. On Cocked And Loaded, you have the aforementioned songs bringing a darker, mysterious feel with their less anthemic melodies (somewhat unusual outside the framework of a power ballad) and some different guitar tones. I love the straight-ahead rockers like "Rip And Tear," "Never Enough" and "I Wanna Be Your Man" (a song the band seems to hate), but these otheer ones help make the album more diverse and "complete."

From: hair metal again Date: March 13, 2021 at 6:05
a def masterpiece for LA GUNS and a classic of the hair metal days that marked and defined me as a hard rocker back in theday!Doghouse hits the spot here as it s not only about the straight sleazy rockers, but the guns always had that mystery, diversity in their lyrics and music lines!no fillers, all the songs are fine and especially "rip n tear","wheels of fire","i wanna be your man","never enough","sleazy come easy go"!essential

From: Auslander Date: March 13, 2021 at 14:24
I have to agree with the recent comments from hair metal and doghouse. This is a more diverse release than the debut (which I also love). The band really hit their stride here. This album is a classic of the sleaze genre and while all three of the original LA Guns albums are favourites of mine, if I could only take one to a desert island with me, it would be Cocked & Loaded.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: March 14, 2021 at 19:24
Another bit of trivia about Cocked And Loaded: I remember listening to a podcast a few years ago, a thirty-year reunion for people who had worked at KNAC (for our international friends, KNAC was America's premier heavy-metal radio station, out of Los Angeles from 1986-1995). At one point, they were talking about bands from the Sunset Strip that the station had championed and helped to break, and L.A. Guns came up. Several of the DJ's noted that when "Never Enough" was released as a single, they all hated it, thought it was a sellout, too commercial, and didn't want to play it on the air. The program director eventually added it to the playlist anyway, because the video was really getting popular on MTV and it didn't make sense NOT to be playing it.

That's a cool story Doghouse. I never would have thought of LA Guns being considered a sell out. I guess Never Enough is pretty catchy. But that was kinda the point of much of the whole pop metal thing. Probably the main reason I love the music. Did LA Guns ever get huge? I always thought they were kind of a second tier band, you know, below Guns N Roses or Cinderella, same level as Faster Pussycat and above say Vain or Britny Fox.

You're right, Auslander: L.A. Guns were definitely second-tier. They only got to play arenas by opening for other bands like AC/Dc. I like "Never Enough" as well, but comparing it to their first album, yeah, I can see why some would see it as something of a sellout. "The Ballad of Jayne" was their one crossover hit, and even that wasn't all that big. They were still a band mainly for the rawk crowd. I've always been a little lukewarm on the debut, maybe because I heard Cocked and Loaded first, and so after that the first album seemed underdeveloped. A song like "Bitch Is Back" would never have made it onto this album. BTW, Vain weren't even third-tier in America, as far as popularity or commercial success went.

I was having a similar discussion on tiers about the so-called "big 4" of thrash. My point was that putting Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer in the same tier as Metallica was not accurate. Metallica sold 4 times as many records as the other 3 bands combined. I know sales are not everything, but as far as successful genres, breakout bands like Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi drag through other acts to enable them to make a living and reach wider audiences. It is then down to obsessives like us to endlessly debate the merits of all the hundreds of fish desperately swimming in the wake of the whales.

Auslander: I can see your point regarding the Big Four. But without getting too far afield, I think it's a little different with thrash, since that music wasn't so much intended for mass appeal. Metallica's huge success seems like kind of an accident. I do think the Big Four belong grouped together, since if nothing else, they were the earliest and most visible bands in thrash, even if one4 of them sold a shit-ton more records than the other three.

Definitely their best album. Phil Lewis is a God tier vocalist. This album rips from start to finish. Sleazy, bluesy and catchy as hell it's everything I've always loved about hard rock.
