Over-all a very good album. The production is lacking a bit but if you can get that, this is a solid album. The track "Ride The Train" is awesome!! and keeps me very interested for the Back Trax 2 album.

An absolutely kickass album... er, compilation... er... something... I dunno, this is just a kickass collection of really bluesy hard rock songs, lots of country influences turn up including plenty of kickass fiddling(!) but all within the thick loud rockin. I'm tempted to say it's even better than their early albums. Sure the production aint fantastic, but turn it up loud enough and you won't notice (and rock is designed to be played at the 'appropriate level'!). Awesome, get it... NOW!

Outside The Circle is an AMAZING song on this one! Always loved this band and always will. Great stuff

Nowhere near as good as the first two, but a decent hard rock album. Not much better than decent though...

Putting the mystery to rest, I read an interview with Rick Ruhl where he says these songs were recorded in '94, and were meant to be EMN's third album, but they were dropped by their label. I have no idea how this would have played had it been released in '94 on a major. The band really never got popular enough for the hair-metal connection to be a huge deal, I think, and in any case, by this point, they had shed all traces of that sound. Back Traxx is much closer to their later albums than to the debut. Mid-tempo, very southern, but also kinda heavy in an alternative way. Some songs have what sounds like banjo or mandolin ("Southern Way," "Ride The Train"). Elsewhere, some songs just aren't very memorable, and the mood can get gloomy, and not in a good way. So anyway, Perris came along and slapped a dumb title on it that made it sound like just a bunch of B-sides or something. It's okay, and if you're into this band at all, you're diehard enough to want to at least hear it.
