The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you notice that a particular Ace Frehley CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Paul Stanley has complained that Ace's playing never blossomed beyond his early skills, and listening to this album I have to say he's right -- you hear an awful lot of familiar old Frehley licks that stretch all the way back to '75. That doesn't mean the Spaceman hasn't delivered some killer playing in his career (the "Rock and Roll Over" album being the apex for me), just that well into the New Millennium you might expect some development. But then, why mess with a signature style, right? That includes the boozy riffs and Ace's languid vocals, plus a sort of Hanoi Rocks beach-punk fun that infects the up-tempo rockers ("Gimme A Feelin'," "I Wanna Hold You.") Of course, there's also the expected instrumental song (the worthless "Starship") and plenty of obligatory outer space references. Other than the thunderous modern production, it all sounds like it could have been done over 40 years ago. Enjoyable (and probably his best output in a while), just kinda tired in 2014. 70/100

Ace does have that signature sound that takes time to get used to. It's always just “a bit off,” but it's definitely unique to him that's for sure. I like the first four tracks on this one and that is about it. But all in all, I think it's a strong release for him and well worth checking out.

Here is the thing that impresses me the most about Ace, no matter what type of song (original or cover), it has that classic Ace stamp on it, and it makes for a good song! The difference here in this album compared to his last album "Anomaly (2009)", is that you can tell he went back and revisited his KISS 1978 solo album and took notes from his Frehley Comet albums, because this album reflects these elements of those albums without a doubt. If you are an Ace fan, a couple of these songs are old demos and/or reworked unreleased tracks from the 1985-1995 years, and the rest are all newer stuff. Really good album, this one is better than Anomaly (2009). HIGHLIGHT TRACKS: #1,2,4,5,7,9,11 MY RATING: 90/100.
