A better album than Indiscreet. Track 3 co-written by Desmond Child (alice Cooper's Poision & Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer). Fantastic!

A fantastic album the cream of british aor, (along with the mighty Dare)!I managed to see the band several times touring this platter and were as good live!

Not as good as indiscreet but is a woderful album of AOR too.

From: Howe Date: September 8, 2001 at 16:21

Probably for fans of Firehouse, Unruly Child, Jagged Edge UK, and other melodic rock bands. This CD can be heavy on the ballads. If you want catchy rock, with a softer emotional side, this CD will do. My favorite include Bad Luck, Tough It Out and Burning My Heart Down

From: Large1 Date: July 22, 2002 at 9:00
Who would have thought that FM could produce a better album than Indiscreet but they managed it with this one. An absolute gem.

From: Nae Neck Date: May 24, 2003 at 14:50
Ah! does this really give you some insight into what FM were aiming at with this gem of an album, some might say to soft, but there are some very good material on this to please even the most hardened rockers! around if you've had the chance to hear any of this album live! you will know what I mean the band just got better when they played any tracks they were so much meatier, that you knew that you were listening to something special take a bow guys superb get a listen and you will see.

From: Chris Date: June 7, 2003 at 14:25
In my opinion, this is not quite as good as the debut, although its still a real belter. Highlights for me include 'Bad Luck' (Jovi eat your heart out), 'The dream that died', 'Burning my heart down', and the very underrated 'Can you hear me calling'.As with the debut album, every fan of Aor should own this album. Superb.

Actually an excellent collection of AOR tracks..A little too polished at times and the Desmond Child track 'Bad Luck' bears a lot of resemblance to 'You give love a bad name' from Bon Jovi...Overall a very high standard on this effort.

From: Rockiss Date: December 12, 2003 at 16:53
A brilliant 80's classic. he best of all the FM releases

From: AOR freaky Date: December 16, 2003 at 8:55
I also think this one is FM's best record ever. But I agree that their debut was also very good ! After that, they've lost their strength !

From: aorjocke Date: January 20, 2004 at 12:25
I think that their first record (Indiscreet) is the best AOR album ever made, and this is not far behind, except a few tracks. This is the way AOR should be played, catchy refrains, fantastic vocals...How many other bands can come up with songs like 'Bad Luck','The Dream that Died' or 'Can You Hear me Calling?'..none!If you like pure AOR with crystal clear production, killer refrains and massive keys you should bye this one!

From: illimey Date: January 28, 2004 at 22:58
Had this one for a while (only FM album I have heard) and never knew what the fuss was about. Pretty average stuff. Actually, I only bought it because they supported Magnum for a few dates one year and I wanted to hear what they were like before the show. They were pretty average live, as well! (Mind you, MOST bands are pretty average live compared to Magnum!!)

From: robert Date: February 7, 2004 at 12:57

I've been looking so long for this album but it's out of print, does anybody know if there are any plans for re-issuing it?

ONE OF THE ALL TIME TOP TEN BEST AOR CD´S . FANTASTIC ...........

From: TIM (2) Date: June 28, 2004 at 7:32
Neil Kernon could probably make Motorhead sound polished. This is top quality AOR, and tracks like 'The Dream that Died' and 'Can you Hear me Calling?' are a perfect definition of mid-tempo AOR. Airkraft also had a version of 'Someday' on their mediocre 'In the Red' album, and it also opened Mark Free's 'Long Way From Love' solo album, but FM beat them both with their killer version.

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: July 15, 2004 at 3:33
This one togheter with 'indescreet' are simply: UNMATCHABLES. this is what late 80'AOR was all about. A piece of history. what happen to these guys after this one... we still don't understand?

From: Joan Date: July 26, 2004 at 17:49
'tought it out', 'burning my heart down', 'the dream that died'...

Title track is excellent but not enough quality to earn it's high praise in my mind. Overland does have a good voice however and is enjoyable to listen to.

From: gener8tr Date: February 3, 2005 at 16:13
GREAT. Picks up where the debut left off, and rocks even harder!

From: Geoff Date: February 16, 2005 at 19:49
For me this is easily the best FM disc. Killer melodic hard rock from start to end.'Tough it Out' is the absolute perfect opener to get things started up, 'Don't Stop' is great too, 'Bad Luck' is as good as commercial hard rock gets, 'Someday' is, as always, great, 'Everytime I Think of You' is just beautiful, 'The Dream that Died' and 'Can you hear my calling' could be my faves- huge melodic rockers, but my absolute fave has to be 'Does it Feel Like Love'. Truly sensational disc; almost perfect

From: Swriter Date: February 16, 2005 at 20:00
agreed Geoff, now where can we get this one???? are the new remasters coming????

From: Erik Date: February 17, 2005 at 1:11
Amen to that Geoff. This is indeed their absolute best release and i 2 feel that they were never able to give it the proper follow up. Killer tracks for me are Dont stop, Someday, Everytime i think of you, Burning my heart down, Obsession, Does it feel like love and Feels so good. But again no weak song or filler to be found here. A true GEM.

From: ROCKER76 Date: February 23, 2005 at 13:43
Who am I to argue?? Everyone else has hit the nail on the head. Just classy and polished AOR through and through. The title track was a highlight for me as was Bad Luck, Everytime I Think Of You, and Does It Feel Like Love. Great songs, great musicianship, and top-notch production from Neil Kernon (Queensryche, Aviator, Dokken, Autograph). I don't remember this band getting the acclaim they deserved, but they're certainly one of the better ones of that genre.

From: Wachen Date: April 1, 2005 at 9:04
The best FM record! A little rougher than 'Indiscreet' but the soul and passion and layers of keyboards makes this one a must-have! Listen to Steve Overlands passion cry in the intro to 'Everytime I think of you', simply brilliant!! BUY! 9/10

From: Date: April 4, 2005 at 6:22

As far as I know : both Indiscreet and this one will be rereleased (digitally remastered !) on ONE CD ! Two on one ! Both quality and quantity for the same money. Is that right or wrong ? !

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Jez Date: July 22, 2005 at 4:49
'Tough It Out' is being released seperately with 7 bonus tracks in early August I think, don't know about 'Indiscreet'. I know a 2on1 is also listed, but how you can get these 2 albums on one cd when the running time is nearly 87 minutes between the 2 will be interesting to see!!!.

From: AOR freaky Date: July 22, 2005 at 14:22
Thanks for the further infomation, Jez. We'll wait and see !

From: Erik Date: July 22, 2005 at 15:28
Got the original ever since it came out. To me without a shadow of a doubt there absolute very best album. But a re-release with 7 extra bonus songs ? Hmmmmm

From: swriter Date: August 4, 2005 at 14:47
anyone get the re-release yet???? on Steve's site said it was out in July??? I heard Indiscreet is coming as well as the last two FM albums being issued in a little box set, I guess kinda like the long time release, can't wait for Tough it out and Indiscreet, I never had them officially on a cd!!!!! just heard them from the best of!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: August 4, 2005 at 18:04
Hi swriter ! This pearl is already available at AOR Heaven !!! Don't know about 'Indiscreet'. There will be a 2 on 1 too ! Indeed, Jez is right ! How to put those on 1 CD ? Swriter, this is great stuff, up your alley ! Glad you like the samples of Philip Bardowell ! Some weeks ago, I said that would be THE AOR album of 2005 !!! It will be ! One minor point : it's only 43 minutes long !!!

From: swriter Date: August 4, 2005 at 18:52
cool Freaky, so which ones will be on the 2 for 1???? thanks

From: runha Date: August 8, 2005 at 9:14
just got this one from AORHEAVEN with the 7 xtra bonus tunes on....it`s absolutely worth having, even if you already have the original one....5 studio trax ( single B sides )and 2 live ones. there will be a rë-issue of 'indiscreet' too......!

From: TIM (2) Date: August 26, 2005 at 2:40
I've just got the 'Deluxe Pack' of this & it's essential, even for those who already own the original (unless you have all the singles). 'Love Lasts Forever' is magnificent, as is 'Hurt is Where the Heart is', and the booklet & packaging of the re-master are superb.

From: Erik Date: August 26, 2005 at 3:44
I have the original Tim but reading all the positive comments about the new re-release i have decided to order it as well .

From: swriter Date: August 26, 2005 at 17:22
wowowow, well just discovering Steve Overland about 6 months ago, and have gotten everything I could, this is fantastic, and a great re-release and agree with Tim about Love lasts, for me this and Indiscreet are a bit tied, this one amy stand out a bit for me, just great, get the new version!!! now maybe Indiscreet will be released in the same great way!!!

From: swriter Date: August 27, 2005 at 15:28
out of the 7 bonus tracks, one is Let Love be the leader from the best of as well as a live verion of that and Frozen Heart. The other 4 bonus tracks are Love lasts forever, This could be the last time, Hurt is where the heart is and everytime we touch, these are great tracks!!!!!! I wonder if these were actually done at the same time as Tough it out??? oops, nevermind the booklet says they are b sides and a four track recording, whatever that was. GREAT SONGS!!!

From: swriter Date: August 27, 2005 at 15:43
one more note on this one, I do not think the 2 for 1 with Tough and Indiscreet was a Steve project???? not sure, but anyone who has it, I would be interested in who put it out. I think he really had a hand in the new Tough it out remaster with bonus tracks only???? hmmm

From: AOR freaky Date: August 29, 2005 at 3:37
The single rerelease is out on Bad Reputation with seven bonus songs indeed and the double CD (Tough It Out + Indiscreet)is out on BGO Records (digitally remastered from the original tapes). Best !

From: swriter Date: August 29, 2005 at 10:38
I have the single new Tough it out remaster Freaky, just wondering if the 2 for 1 with Tough/Indiscreet is a real release??? or boot?? no mention of it on Steve's site and in stores, just Ebay???

From: AOR freaky Date: August 29, 2005 at 12:23
Hi swriter ! The 2 for 1 is no bootleg at all, but a real release on BGO Records (known for many rereleases) ! It's really strange. Two rereleases, both remastered on two different labels, releases at the same time ! I have both versions and it's both available in stores !!! A mystery, certainly if there is so much else that needs a remastered rerelease on CD (Roadmaster with Sweet Music, Creed from 1978, Preview, Dixon House Band, The Hounds, Redvette, Link, Limousine etc. etc. ) !

From: Erik Date: October 14, 2005 at 10:45
Got the remastered one yesterday. Like Tim wrote. Its so worth it ( altho i already bought the original back in 89).'Love Lasts Forever' is magnificent, as is 'Hurt is Where the Heart is', and the booklet & packaging of the re-master are indeed of excellent quality. Easily their best effort. A great album. 9,3/10

From: biurri Date: November 13, 2005 at 8:45

From: bkbeverly Date: January 29, 2006 at 13:24

IMPRESIONANTE, IMPRESCINDIBLE, GENIAL. 10/10

YEAH! MEJOR QUE EL PRIMERO PARA MI GUSTO. TIENE UNAS CANCIONES SUPERLATIVAS, DE OTRA GALAXIA. BAD LUCK Y THE DREAM THAT DIE SON EL EJEMPLO DE CÓMO HACER UNA CANCIÓN DE AOR. AH!, UNA CURIOSIDAD. MARK FREE VERSIONEÓ SOMEDAY EN SU LONG WAY FROM LOVE. ES UN DISCAZO IMPRESIONANTE QUE NO ME CANSO DE ESCUCHAR. SUPERGRUPO, SUPERCANTANTE Y SUPERTECLADOS: DIDGE DIGITAL, GENIAL.

From: DANTE Date: July 13, 2006 at 11:50

AMAZING ALBUM!!! Otra Joya perfecta!!

I still remember watching those guys live at the great Hammersmith Odeon (England) back in the day...1989 on this "Tough It Out" World Tour...they rocked out the Venue!!!...Basicaly they played all the songs from the album plus the best ones from their debut "Indiscreet"...This is what AOR was all about, good melodic yet catchy songs and FM were professionals doing that. Now they are back and watch them playing songs at the Firefest latest edition (youtube). The album?...a straight 100!!!.

what we have here is simple:music straight from the heart.killer melodic anthems like "bad luck" and "the dream that died" make things in my life easier.neil kernon in producing and desmond child songwriting did again an excellent job.a definite must buy, feels so good...

Along with Dare's 'Out of the Silence' and Strangeway's 'Walk in the Fire' - this is my joint equal number 1 AOR album of all time! FM never came close to this again in terms of an overall album. 'Dead Man's Shoes' was a killer melody, but the album was less than memorable overall. Bring back the '80s!

no doubt ,no hesitation "tough it out" is their best album.i never was impress by their first record ,too light ,too variety at my taste.here they deliver a real superb aor album.it s a big big cd so no fillers only killers.the french reissue of 2005 by bad reputation is hightly recommanded cause the sound was remasterd and there is 8 bonus tracks (2 live).the bonus tracks are a wet dream for aor lovers and the production is absoluty perfect.sometimes in france we are touched by the grace of god and make some little miracles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: 123charpenay Date: July 3, 2012 at 13:08
sorry; i forget; the booklett is superb with lot of pictures and a special text (one page) for all the members of the band.

Pure hard rock heaven. A lot of keyboards on this one. Better than Def Leppard's Hysteria.

Album Top ten of AOR of all of the times. Event better than "Indiscreet". Definitely 1989 is the best year for the AOR/Melodic Rock. Awesome melodies and keyboards. Great the voice of Steve Overland. All tracks very good. 10/10

This is definitely a grower and after listening to it for several weeks I can confirm that this is a Brit-AOR monster of the same vein as Strangeways and Heartland although with a slightly softer edge. The vocalist has a superb range and he really makes the songs his own - every AOR band should strive to have a Steve Overland at the helm. Tough It Out: what an opener; I can listen to this again and again; Someday is my next favourite: very catchy vocals; Everytime I Think of You is a wonderful soulful ballad that really hits its target: again, the vocals are passionate and fiery without losing that hard rock edge. Burning My Heart Down has some great guitar work in it and is worth listening to for that alone; while Obsession has a punchy chorus that seems to make me want to join in. Does it Feel Like Love: Signal and Thunder both have great songs by that name and this is no exception, this is a great song with thundering drums, passionate vocals and a super solo. Wonderful stuff. I tha

i m very lucky cause yesterday evening i ve seen fm in lyon at "transbordeur" in guest of saxon.they have playing 40 minutes.it was 40 minutes of absolut happiness.during these 40 minutes they have make an exceptional demonstration of a o r.they have playing several songs of "tough it out" and others of course.these guys have not a hard rock look but they have lot of class.the metal saxon s fans were very surprised (many don t know fm) and were scotched by the very high quality of the f m music and by the genius guitarist jim kirkpatrick..result in the little store they sell more fm s t shirts than saxon s t shirts.it was a wonderful (too short) concert.

I like their debut a lot so I was looking forward on this one but I must say I'm a bit disappointed due the overpolished production that somehow eclipsed the songs. I'll look for the demos and live footage.

If anyone is looking for this, it just got re-released on vinyl by Music for Nations. I grabbed it as I'm building my vinyl catalog again. Excellent album!
