If you thought the Hollywoood Rocks! box set was too mainstream, you'll dig this four-disc set. Seventy-somme tracks of Sunset Strip never-weres (that's one rung a couple rungs below has-beens, for our non-American friends). If you like to hear demos by bands who mostly paid to play (but were passable enough to make that work), but who weren't good enough to ever make a real record--I mean, if you can sit through four hours of this shit, this is absolutely for you. Some semi-well-known cats came from a few of these bands (Dizzy Reed from The Wild, and Byte The Bullet changed their name to Southgang), but these aren't B- or C-list bands. More like W, X, Y and Z-listers. Interesting for its historical and novelty value, the absolute obscurity of this stuff. But I doubt it's something anyone would actually listen to often after the initial exploration. |
