I saw an article on yahoo-news showing the top 50 Christmas songs/videos and I was surprised to see "Twisted Sister - "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" in the mix. Being a Biblical Christmas song with Christ centered lyrics, and Dee "Santa" Snider being a half jew(father's side) it's unexpected. On wiki Snider quote "I was born and raised a Christian and I still adhere to those principles". The video visual for "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" is more in line with good girl gone bad. "I'll Be Home for Christmas" off of Twisted Sister - A Twisted Christmas (2006) is the only track from that album on this compilation. For Christmas albums this ain't bad with the stand out tracks to my ears being Dokken - "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and "Enuff Z'nuff - Happy Holiday". The worst is Danger Danger w/ Tad Pole-y in is usual original form taking everything in pairs DD, w/ a brand new spin on naughty naughty under the tree. Faster "Pussycat - Silent Night" is also garbage with a industrial NIN sound. |

This is mostly a repackaging and rehashing of a 2004-ish Cleopatra release, something about a Very Hairy Christmas. Most of these songs come from that disc, and yet its best song isn't included: Every Mother's Nightmare doing a mournful, countrified acoustic song called "Won't Be Home For Christmas." |

I think most rock Christmas songs are pretty bad, and most are clearly meant as nothing more than half-assed novelties. But along with the EMN song, other favorites include Black Stone Cherry doing "Santa Claus is Back In Town," Brother Cane's rare cover of the obscure-in-itself blues song "Let's Make Christmas Merry, Baby," Tesla instraumental version of "Silent Night," and American Dog's punked-up, sleighbell-jingling "Merry Christmas, Asshole." |
