I remember seeing news of this box on Blabbermouth or Bravewords or somewhere, and knowing I had to have it. It's a pretty cool set, actually, full of obscurities. As you can see by the tracklisting, this is NOT another one of those 'Talk Dirty To Me"/"Round And Round"/"Cherry Pie" kind of compilations, which is good. Even a lot of the songs that we're familiar with, particularly in the early going, like "It's Not Love," "Hold On To 18," "Inside Out" and "Electric Gypsy" are in demo form. Personally, I found the greatest number of rare gems on the last disc, while the first disc (they go in rough chronological order) fell fairly flat.As a historical overview, though, it's neat to hear the evolution (such as it was) of L.A. glam/sleaze metal (only a small handful of bands don't fall into this subgenre). |

Also, this set shows that, for the most part, the cream really DID rise to the top, as there's a lot of mediocrity to be found among the "WHO?!" bands. The booklet is kinda crappy, with the band biographies being taken word-for-word from RockDetector, adn the pages start coming out very easily. But if you're into sleaze-metal at all and want to go beyond the obvious, or you want a pretty good history lesson in musical form, or if you're a lover of the obscure but can't afford to be blowing tons of money on eBay, you gotta have this. |

Just pick this up the other day. Agree with Doghouse. The best songs come from those bands that "made it." Very interesting listening (and reading) how so many of these bands were interchangeable. If you want to learn about the origin of a lot of glam metal, this box set will steer you in the right direction. |

Really like this box set. Raw and smells of hairspray!! |
