All of Martin Briley's recorded work for Mercury on one excellent box set. Included is the mighty fine 'One Night With A Stranger' album which is the most essential part of this 2 disc set, as it was only previously released in very limited quantities. The rest of the package contains the debut 'Fear Of The Unknown' and the final 'Dangerous Nights' release & six previously unreleased demo's from the respective album sessions all superbly remastered. Limited Edition only, so get it while you can.

I'm having the devils own job prising this out of the CD player at the moment with the result that other new stuff is just not getting played. What a great collection. All the songs are top notch. For some reason he comes across as a mix of Van Stephenson, Max Webster (for some of the lyrics and off the wall feel) and ... and ... someone else (duh!). Really great melodic yet chilled out rock. Fave song at the moment is School for Dogs which is genius but it changes each play! Essential really.

I have to agree that Martin Briley has some good songs. But it's all a bit too safe for me. A mix of Van Stephenson and Max Webster ? ! Hmm . . ., don't think so, Nick C. Both do have a lot more pure class IMO and they can't be compared. Van Stephenson is more pure AOR and Webster is classy, weird hardrock. But, not bad a compilation at all !

Nick - The 'One Night With A Stranger' album really reminds me of Peter Gabriel in the vocal department especially - Fabulous album. Freak - This does have a Max 'quirkiness' about it especially lyrically, which may be missed by yourself as English isn't your main language. I would also add that some of the stuff on here definately isn't SAFE, especially on the aforementioned 'One Night With A Stranger', which has a very original feel/quality to it!!!

Jez Peter Gabriel may well be the missing "someone else" I was looking for .. although my wife said Phil Collins but I couldn't see that ... in fact I was beside myself with woe when she said that hahaha (although he is mentioned on the back sleeve).

I understand what you mean, Jez. Although english isn't my mother tongue at all, I know that Max Webster is lyrically an outspoken band, so to say. I also find 'em, or do I have to say Kim ?, a genial band. So unique, so intelligent !
