This album is pretty good. It's a little heavier, and the song 'Rise' is outstanding!

yes bon jovi sounds a bit similar is his last album!!!!! but this one really kicks ass

A strong comeback album! Check out 'Rise', 'Breathe' and 'True Believers'. Way to go, Cult!

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 5, 2004 at 18:57
Indeed, this album kicks major tuchas! Too bad the reunion was shortlived. Oh well, at least we have the music to remember them by. This was the Cult's best album since SONIC TEMPLE.

From: Kryiis Karl Date: January 20, 2004 at 15:30
Very good shot, not out of place or out of time at all. The only thing is that I can't stand Sorum on drums.

From: Cruise Date: March 31, 2004 at 22:49
Quite impressed by this. It's the most hard rock they've sounded since Sonic Temple. Great to hear them go back to the sound that made them popular.

From: Lynchomaniac Date: June 6, 2004 at 11:08
See Fat Freddy he said it all!!!

The Cult coming back with a lot of energy and heavier than usual. I do not understand the reason why this album has not topped the saling list and you can find it so cheap everywhere (run to buy it, if you didn't yet!). A pitty they separated again after the commercial breakdown. My favorite after Electric and Sonic Temple

From: Aussie Dave Date: March 22, 2005 at 19:43
Bob Rock produces this gem of an album, and he gets the best out of these old rockers. What a comeback album this is. This album is still very underated in most circles. Besides Sonic Temple, this is the Cults strongest release, and probably their heaviest! Billy Duffy certainly came up with some monster riffs, and Astbury sounds awesome as well, and to be honest, their really isn't a bad track on here! If you like the Cult and haven't got this opus yet, shame on you!!!! 9.5/10....

From: danoq Date: September 13, 2005 at 1:01
I agree this was up there with Sonic Temple. This record breathes fire!!!!!!!

From: WASP1 Date: June 28, 2006 at 14:14
Surprisingly heavy for them. I found it to be really strong overall.

From: hair metal again Date: May 19, 2011 at 2:48
pretty good release by THE CULT with the valuable help of bob rock again in production, you get a strong ,guitarish sound even heavy in moments.nice vibe and groove all over and some good songs like "my bridges burn","breathe'" and "nico".enjoyable release

From: Wardy Date: February 24, 2012 at 22:50
Explanation required why the hell this didn't get more airplay AussieDave quite rightly stated BGAE was unfairly underrated. A monster of an album at a time when the genre required a swift kick in the behind. Big production stellar performances great songs makes for a massive album! Lead cut RISE hits as hard like 90's Megadeth, personal fave Ashes&Ghosts features that rolling bass intro and is bombast, AmericanGothic is a machine, TheSaint big on vocal melodies, War another great album intro, ShapeTheSky twists & bends its way into the ears and the two ballads in Nico (small return to Eddie vibe) and TrueBelievers are legendary. Quite the praise indeed but this was The Cult on a roll, pissed off, fantastic and impressive again, but its disappointing sales thanks to a world of downloading killed the momentum which should have continued and fared better. Maybe too heavy for the old schoolers but if you like your Cult headbanging and lyrically poetic, this is a sure thing! Rating 9

The last truly great Cult' record...this one was supposed to be produced by Mick Jones but they brought in Bob Rock.'I do remember 'Rise' getting a little airplay but Atlantic's promo of this one was absolute horsesh!t.That and the terrorist attacks which affected a lot of their touring hurt this one and it's sad because like Wardy said above this was one helluva disc and criminally underrated. Not a weak tune in sight.Great singin' from Astbury and probably Duffy's hardest riffing to date.....a gem.
