I have loved this album since it came out in 1978, and haven't stopped listening to it. For me, this is essential Rainbow. It's hard to beat the Blackmore/Dio combination. This is a must for any serious heavy metal/hard rock fan. This album rates in my top 5 of all time. This album is what heavy metal/hard rock is all about. "Kill The King", "Gates Of Babylon", "Long Live Rock-n-Roll" and "Rainbow Eyes" are essential listening for any metal fan.

From: KittyKat Date: June 2, 2002 at 1:39
Well, I just want to say that "Gates of Babylon" is in my humble opinion one of the best metal songs there is .... it doesn't get better than this album ... and Dio's voice !!!

From: Kim Date: June 20, 2002 at 13:48
This is a classic. Rainbow peaked here. Nothing but good tracks. Dio is outstanding, and so is Blackmore.

From: Kim Date: September 9, 2002 at 16:12
One of the best releases ever.

From: robert Date: October 21, 2002 at 19:04

From: Fog-hat Date: December 19, 2002 at 16:10
Rainbow's best album. Rocks hard start to finish, not a bad song on it. "The Shed" remains one of my favorite hard rock songs. My only complaint is Dio singing about "sweet Hell" in the fantastic song "Gates of Babylon". Words have meanings and the thought of "Hell" ain't sweet!!!

From: Gar Date: March 4, 2003 at 22:27
This album was so ahead of its time. If I didn't know it came out in '78, I would've sworn it was from the mid 80's. "Kill the King" can easily be considered early thrash metal, but the album reflects so many different moods. From the sing along chorus of the title track to the gentle ballad "Rainbow Eyes" the songs are all outstanding. Was recently remastered so it sounds even better than before.

From: aceofice Date: March 18, 2003 at 18:27
A great album too,but its not so good as the previous one.it has a more commercial feeling.although the most songs are great like "kill the king","gates of babylon","the shed","long live rock and roll"

From: rising power Date: March 31, 2003 at 0:17
I think this is the best rainbow album. This album sounds more to the point than Rising. If you like heavy metal you must have this one

From: Emilio Date: April 4, 2003 at 4:58
Where is the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow? Man on the silver mountain - Catch the rainbow - The temple of the king - Sixteen century greensleeves - Still I'm sad. IT'S a cd full of classics.

From: Alejandro Date: May 15, 2003 at 17:24
CONECTION -GATES OF..-la joya KILL THE KING-THE SHED-,etc.

Blackmore, Powell and Dio!!!! uauhh! Fantastic album: one of the best hard rock songs ever: Kill the King, the epic Gates of Babylon and the beautiful Rainbow Eyes. BLACKMORE RULES!!!

From: ace Date: June 3, 2003 at 2:45
my kind of music bewitching power metal, with the obvious deep purple drive behind the ever awesome DIO. by the way many bands have followed this same formula, does IRON MAIDEN ring a bell. UP THE IRONS MATE.

From: Chris Date: June 5, 2003 at 7:59
uhh. Rainbow and Iron Maiden, the same kinda formula?

From: CHIRO Date: August 26, 2003 at 18:35
A MUST OWN...THIS IS A MASTERPRICE...EVERY SONG IS A CLASSIC!!!!

From: RR-Finland Date: August 28, 2003 at 11:28
This is probably the best Rainbow record ever (or it is Rising). So many good tunes and Ronnie James Dio´s outstanding vocals. I took a print from cover of LP and put it on the frames and on the wall!

Perfect!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 28, 2004 at 16:09
Another great album by the band, they come up with their best rockers here in the title track and "Kill The King". They also continue their strong epic tracks with "Gates Of Babylon" and "Rainbow Eyes". Another essential piece of metal history. 10/10

From: jack Date: July 20, 2004 at 0:38
This one can be easily as influential and breathtaking as van halen 1. Its almost as good and heavy and maybe a bit ahead of time than van halen 1. Wonder why it isn't as popular and recognizable?van halen 1 did got the tag as the album that change the face of heavy metal or whatever but what about this one??????

When it comes to extreme musicians of the times, this album holds it all inside. Every song a classic in its' own right. Some may come and some may go, but this one deserves to be on every shelf in America. 10/10.

From: PAUL Date: October 22, 2005 at 12:39
Another one British hard rock masterpiece.Just look at the line-up of the band and you'll understand. How can you go wrong with Ritchie,Dio and Cozy(R.I.P.) in the same band?Only one step away from the mighty "Rainbow's rising",9,5 out of 10.

From: juan carlos Date: June 10, 2007 at 1:03
Saludos. 10/10

RIP Ronnie James Dio. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful music you made and it's lasting legacy. You will never be forgotten. Long Live Rock And Roll!

The last Rainbow Album featuring Ronnie James Dio and they still cooked. Awesome! Aside from being in Rainbow,Dio had a Passion for Rainbows and every album he ever did had at least one mention of a rainbow. Rest in peace R.J.D. Long live Rock and Roll.

From: halfordhughes Date: April 25, 2011 at 12:51

From: rick kerch vzla Date: February 8, 2016 at 10:33
