I'd forgotten how good this one is; I'm glad I pulled it out of the stacks. Stylistically, this one is all over the map, from AOR through hard rock to melodic metal at times. I'm thinking a heavier version of Firehouse mixed with vintage TNT? Fairly tough to find, but well worth the effort!

From: BrianR Date: December 3, 2003 at 22:16
Is this the same band that had an album called "America"?

From: aTomiK Date: December 5, 2003 at 17:41
It´s the same band. This is a good album, there are some Dream Theater-like parts too in the songs. They have made at least 4 albums, this is the second one(1992). Haven´t got the others.

From: Infinity Date: January 1, 2004 at 21:31
TNT meets Dream Theater meets Firehouse meets IQ...this is an superb Melodic-Prog-Album with an excellent production!!!TOP-HIT:"Voices in the rain"

dose anyone know what happen to these guys ? i used to go see these guys all the time ! great band!!

From: Kip Date: September 3, 2004 at 16:10
This to date is still an undiscovered gem in my eyes. It's rare, it's really good, yet it's really cheap? Fine by me, thank you very much. 'Justify' has one of the most awesome hooks an any melodic metal song I own, and one of my favorite songs of all time. If the rest of the album sucked, which it doesn't, I would still recommend it for that one awesome song. Killer tracks are 1,2,5,6,7,8, and 11, which is one of only a handful of instrumentals I really dig. Highly Recommended album! 9/10

These guys sort of remind me of the un-christian Holy Soldier. There are many differences, just what I think sometimes. An extremely classy band and I do quite like this CD. Got to hear it again methinks...

If you are from Cincinnati you might have heard these guys. I have a friend who managed and was a good friend of these guys. I saw them live. I had the cd long ago and really didn't do anything for me. They had Pink Floyd, Ambrosia influences in the music. They did have progressive influences obviously. They liked the Who. Did a great Comfortably Numb live.

Imagine my suprise when I stumbled on this page and found my old band Mara. My name is Jim Questa, and I'm the keyboardist who played on most of these tracks (all except Justify, 1/2 Way 'Till Tomorrow, and Alone Here Beside You - I'm listed as "additional musician" in the credits). I left the band after the recording of most of the tracks to take a full time music job in Florida - They picked up Mike Tekulve and continued on for a couple of years before disbanding. see next line.

From: jquesta Date: October 29, 2004 at 15:03
Mara had 3 recordings - Breaking The Silence which was a cassette we sold at shows around Cincinnati, Poetry, and America. Poetry and America were released in Japan, and a compilation of sorts was released in Europe. Jay Aronoff, Chris Mundy, Tod Farler and I are all still friends and play music in different groups around Cincinnati. No one is quite sure whatever happened to Marty Farris, but I hear he's living somewhere in S.Central Ohio. We've discussed reforming, but haven't as of yet...

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It's nice to know that our music has some fans around the world, even though there was a very limited distribution. Best Regards - Jim Questa

From: Kip Date: October 30, 2004 at 10:00
Hey you're welcome - if you make great music - like you did - people are bound to hear it someday and it will stay in their hearts forever. I know it's in mine! Thank YOU for making it! Your little band has been the topic of much discussion on my message boards these last few days, as me and a friend were sharing your music on line. I think you have a bunch of new fans now.

From: Duncan Date: October 30, 2004 at 14:39
Hi there, been looking forever on something about these guys, sorry to hear they split up, makes me sick when you hear how talented this band is. Then you think about Britney Spears and how she's got so much money with no talent, who sais life is fair

From: Todd Farler Date: January 5, 2005 at 19:45
Wow! hey guy's, I was the drummer in Mara. Thanks for all the kind words about the album and the band. It really broke my heart that we never went anywhere with it, it's a real shame. but hey, life goes on and people make new music. I'm curretly working with Michael Mozart and Martika (toy soldiers) in a band called Oppera. We're touring this spring in support of the cd. So check it out!!! Thanks again. Todd Farler.

From: SangreAzulForever Date: June 28, 2006 at 10:14

From: Swazi Date: January 24, 2007 at 16:02
There is only one word for this album ! AWESOME !!! BUY or DIE !!

From: BIG-TIME Date: March 13, 2008 at 17:10
I really don't like this CD at all!!! the only stand out track is "Heaven Never Knows" and even that get's bit boring after a couple of spins you guys are easily pleased, but for me and a couple of people I know don't like this album but hey each to there own...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

From: fyrefaerye Date: February 12, 2010 at 19:09
OMG I couldn't believe I found this. Marty Farris isn't in Ohio. At least not anymore. He lives in Florida. He's my boss. I haven't had a chance to really listen to much of their music, but what I have heard I really enjoy.

From: jquesta Date: March 27, 2010 at 18:18
I've been searching for Marty for a long time. Would love for him to contact me. Please have him email me at badhabit2112@yahoo.com - I would certainly appreciate it! Jim Questa - Keyboardist for Mara 1085-90

From: rick kerch vzla Date: August 11, 2010 at 22:54
This album is just amazing!!!...great songs indeed!..Hard Rock with AOR moments too!...Marty Farris is definetely a good vocalist 4 sure,he gives the emotion needed for the songs...anyway after saying all these nice adjectives let's go to...the songs!..."Sentimental Warning" what a way 2 start the album..a highlight!,"Justify" is an instant fave,"Second Best" is a nice strong ballad,"Voices In The Rain" is just a wonderful AOR song,"Crimes Of The Heart" & "Breaking The Silence" are both great numbers,"September Rain" is another blasting piece of AOR,"Nigtmare" is an instrumental track that is just awesome and "Alone Here Beside You" ends this dreamy album as a highlighted one...surely an album that you'll enjoy from head 2 toe!.95/100

From: fyrefaerye Date: December 22, 2011 at 19:44
@jquesta: Marty's email is marty5octave@aol.com. Sorry this took so long to get to you.

From: 123charpenay Date: December 10, 2012 at 12:20
received this record today and i am under the charm.the singer have a similar voice than john david martin(artica) or james labrie.this album is simply beautiful and smart!superb melodies musically it s very very strong.a mix of hard rock aor and a little touch of prog.result a masterpiece.the lone weak point is the sound whitch is not the same on several songs.foe example on track 12 the sound is more weak than on the others songs.the sound of the drums is not the same on several songs (not terrific on track3).but no problem if you find this jewel (japan import) buy buy buy.

From: hair metal again Date: January 25, 2020 at 23:48
excellent debut for MARA ,a band that performs some commercial prog metal if you could say so!proggy musicianship but nice melodic lines all over make his one a rather unique one!"second best","breaking the silence","september rain" and " alone here beside you " are fine songs indeed!recommended
