| This band is a mixed bag, dabbling in practically all the metal genres (power, melodic, progressive, etc.) making them tough to accurately describe, but one thing is for sure: they are pure metal. There is not a bad song on here, from the ripping opening rocker through the mournful, balladesque title track to the excellent closing song, resulting in the best CD of the band's career. If you crave intelligent, classy metal, SAVATAGE will slake your thirst.

| Another stunning album from Savatage despite tragically losing Criss Oliva, and Jon Oliva taking a back seat from vocals. This is a tribute to the writing and production skills of Paul O'Neill and Jon Oliva. New vocalist, Zak Stevens is a revelation and is backed by the usual powerful Savatage sound. Favourite tracks are Chance, Watching you fall and Alone you breathe.

| "Alone You Breathe" made my cry the first time I heard it, and when I saw the band live in 1996 and heard the song live, I damn near cried in the audience. A masterpiece.

| God, I wanted to like this so bad since i was both a huge 'tage fan and Alex Skolnick fan. After repeated listens i finally gave up- IMO this is easily the worst Savatage released. This band is so talented yet to me the songs just were not there. It suprised me to read the above posts cuz i know several who feel the same way i do. Thankfully, they redeemed themselves on the next one.

Yeah, yeah, yeah- won't be the first time or the last I'm sure.  Gave it another try and still hate it. I'd even take Fight for the Rock over this. I love Savatage just not this album.

| Hand full of rain was the only good song on this one, quite a disappointment. Never did like thrash.

| If you don't compare it with other Savatage albums and think more generally, it can be counted as a good album. But when compared with other albums of this band in the 90s, it remains somewhat weaker. I don't want to say bad because it doesn't deserve, rather seems like an average interim-period album. Anyway some people may dig it so much, but definitely it's not an "Edge of Thorns" or "Wake of Magellan". Nonetheless the title song is so powerful.

| I can't like this cd, and most people love it, there is no original tage members on it and i don't think it is the best album to continue criss legacy, best track is chance.

| Ok... the late albums were good, and they had the magical hands of Criss. What a wonderful guitarist! But, they also had the incredible J.L.Middleton. Incredible cause he sucks!!! Very very weak ... And guys, this album is one of the most melodic from Sava, thnx to Mr. Skolnick's feeling in his solos .No crap here, just dont compare with the real Sava style

| The first album without Criss Oliva was a mixed bag. Very different from the experimental leanings of the likes of "Gutter Ballet" & "Streets"-this is just a collection of hard-hitting metal tunes. Ex-Testament shredder Skolnick abruptly left afterwards (after criticism of his live performances) but shines on the amazing "Alone You Breathe" & "Chance". Skolnick & Stevens' performances aside this was just too patchy. The title-track being especially weak. Not their best, but worth getting. 8/10.

The first comment is quite good (M Allen,2003)about describing the band...yeah Savatage indoubtebly rocks!!!..."Handful Of Rain","Chance","Nothing's Going On","Symmetry" & "Alone You Breathe"(nice)my faves...89/100

| superb release for the mighty SAVATAGE always offering that commercial metal big songs,that thrilling guitar lines & solos and aalways under the Oliva trademark!that line up also sounds great and the result is big!no fillers ,Handful Of Rain is essential

| Hi "hair metal again", Savatage was great the, but this is the first record since Criss Oliva´s tragic death, Jon comeback for the studio work with keys and songwriting, Zachary Stevens second álbum on vocals. The song Chance is the standout track of the álbum,fantastic arrangements! exceptional song for a good album in times of trouble for the band. Love Savatage

| This is where Savatage starts to get a bit too Trans-Siberian for my taste, if you will. I love the first two tracks here, and "Alone You Breathe," but "Chance" rolls all the worst parts of this band together. I can't hear it without picturing frilly costumes and prissy ballet moves. The title track is one of my favorite Savatage songs from any album though.

| A guy up there in 2004 says "Never did like thrash." Which tells me that he hasn't actually heard this album, since aside from the first track, there's no thrash to be found. Anywhere.
