WOW- THIS IS THE BEST RECORDING OF DOKKEN EVER-THIS WAS WHEN THEY WHERE JUST ON THERE WAY OUT JUST BEFORE 88 TOUR THE SONGS ARE KILLER FLASHY GEORGE LYNCH BURN THIS ONE UP GREAT WITH HIS WORK ON MR.SCARY-KISS OF DEATH- STANDING IN THE SHADOWS AND THE HIT SINGLE DREAM WARRIORS THIS IS DOKKEN AT THERE BEST IN MY OPINION ON RECORD THAT IS-

From: Greg Date: April 24, 2001 at 19:41
A good one!

From: Brent Date: April 25, 2001 at 12:49
good stuff on this one and my faverite Dokken cd

From: Steve F Date: July 24, 2001 at 21:59
This one has as much polish as you'd expected from Dokken at this point (1987), but the band sounds like it's in auto-pilot in a lot of the songs. Lynch's playing still amazes on this one (especially 'Kiss of Death' and 'Mr. Scary') and there's great guitar solo work and an overall vibe in 'Heaven Sent,' but there's a number of songs that sound like they wouldn't have made the cut earlier. Guess the band's personality conflicts affected the recording process. (8 out of 10)

From: Neal Woodall Date: August 22, 2001 at 20:23
Burning Like a Flame is the only throwaway track on here IMO, despite the band's personality conflicts they managed to put out yet another great CD loaded with excellent songwriting and musicianship. One of my favorites...

From: metal_man73 Date: October 31, 2001 at 17:59
This was by far my favorite Dokken album! Lynch did an excellent job on this one!!! There are not too many instrumentals that I like but Mr.Scary kicks ass!!! Dream Warriors is another great cruisin' song. I would love to see that video again!

From: Jenni Date: January 19, 2002 at 17:59
When all other bands fail, Dokken is ALWAYS there to pick up and take over. They are one of my favorites and one I still listen to faithfully now.

From: dokken6008 Date: May 4, 2002 at 19:47
I would have to STRONGLY disagree with Neal--'Burning Like A Flame' has always been my favorite Dokken tune of all-time. 'Kiss Of Death' kicks ass, too. 'Back For The Attack' and 'Under Lock & Key' are no doubt Dokken's best cds. Any melodic rocker MUST own those two. Good day.

From: Metalhead Date: May 18, 2002 at 5:13
Absolutely, the best Dokken album. And yes, the only throwaway in this one is Burning Like A Flame. George Lynch proved in this one also the he was one of them most dangerous guitarist in the 80s. Check out Cry of the Gypsy!

From: dokken6008 Date: May 20, 2002 at 7:26
Yo, Metalhead--I resent that. 'Cry Of The Gypsy' is the most laughable tune on 'BFTA' and perhaps the most ridiculous song they released in the eighties (of course there were many more in the 90's, but not quite as cheesy). 'Burning Like A Flame' is no 'throw away' track. That is total bullshit and you only say that because it was popular and was played on MTV frequently. But that does not de-value the song, because it is no doubt one of Dokken's best. If you disagree, well, who gives a fuck?

From: Steve T Date: May 21, 2002 at 9:12
This album isn't on the same level as the previous 2 were. The songs are a little less focused and it is over produced. However Sleepless Night is amazing.....there are too many fillers here for me.

From: dokken6008 Date: May 30, 2002 at 4:45
Some of the best production I have ever heard. Neil Kernon is the bomb!!

From: panos Date: June 8, 2002 at 10:29
yeah!!!when you talk for the meaning and the sound of hard rock just listen this masterpiece!!!great songs, vocals, riffs and the most importand hard rock FEELING.....

From: Eric P Date: August 18, 2002 at 14:07
This album grabbed me by the throat and said you must play guitar.Extreamlly good memories of days gone by.I remember the video for Dream Warriors like it was yesterday.I have this one on vinyl and sounds awesome on a good turn table and a set of JBL floor speakers cranked super fuckin loud...

From: Der Pink Panzer Date: August 19, 2002 at 16:49
This is a very melodic album with an almost 'Euro vibe'. Lynch's guitar playing is awesome especially on 'Mr. Scary'. Great vocals by Don Dokken and hooks a' plenty make this one outstanding album.

From: Baris Date: September 5, 2002 at 7:52
The album is typically a nice description of the melodic hard rock in the late 1980s. For the ones who hate alternative rock and miss those times, it just fits. Don Dokken is really a great singer. A fast guitarist as Lynch can easily be found. But Dokken's vocal is only one. 'Burning Like A Flame' sounds so sweet. I also liked 'Kiss of Death', 'Prisoner', Standing In The Shadows', 'Mr. Scary', 'Sleepless Nights', and 'Dream Warriors'.

From: Federico Date: October 18, 2002 at 9:43
Hello from Argentina, The glam metal is the best. AGUANTE DOKKEN!!!!!

From: martin Date: October 19, 2002 at 12:59
Lo mejor de Dokken para mí. Una pena que ahora la banda haya perdido los estribos definitivamente. Pensaba que con Norum habría otro Up from the ashes, pero me equivoqué.

From: monk Date: October 20, 2002 at 9:06
excellent! this is the best dokken album.

From: J Scott Date: November 1, 2002 at 20:36
Although I like Under Lock and Key just a hair better. Heaven Sent may be my favorite Dokken song.

From: ted Date: November 8, 2002 at 10:49
Cada vez q oigo 'kiss of death' literalmente alucino por colores es el mejor riff de la historia del hard rock americano

From: freddy de keyze Date: February 14, 2003 at 8:43
This is Dokken at it's best. George is in fine form and his guitarplaying is second to none ! Kiss of death is simply breathtaking ! Fantastic CD, which needs a remastering to sound even better !!!

From: Rycheage Date: March 17, 2003 at 1:55
One of the best Dokken releases ever. 'Kiss Of Death' and 'Dream Warriors are my favorite on the CD. Highly recommended. 9.0/10.

From: ace Date: June 4, 2003 at 1:45
how can you deny the absolutly kick ass riff that starts burning like a flame. i get jacked every time i hear this cd. the best dokken cd ever. george lynch along with warren demartini are the most underated axe slingers ever. just check out lost behind the wall, or kiss of death. if you are into heavy riffing then check this cd out, and their other releases as well. you just can't go wrong when your ROCKIN WITH DOKKEN!!!!

From: THE_ROGUE Date: June 14, 2003 at 15:37
This was and is a very inspired album. one thing that bummed onthe release of this album was the lack of the title track, it being released as a b-side for DREAM WARRIORS. This is LYNCH's best axe work. I was sadly dissappointed to hear his playing on the VAI/SATRIANI tribute album, I thought that it was absolutely horrible. I guess he lost his talent when he planted his head up his ass.

From: RR-Finland Date: August 30, 2003 at 7:10
Best Dokken EVER! This was one of my very first LP´s I bought and I´ve listened very much since then. George Lynch in he´s best! You just can´t resist to sing along with these tracks and play your airguitar in a front of mirror!! Highly recommended!

From: keebler Date: October 8, 2003 at 1:15
rockin cd another classic.

From: King Fighter Date: October 16, 2003 at 13:11
Tirando 'Sleepless Nights' que é puramente comercial,TODAS as músicas desse álbum são irretocáveis,especialmente 'So Many Tears','Burning Like A Flame','Kiss Of Death' e 'Mr.Scary',que mostram o porquê do Dokken ter sido a banda que foi(que decadência!).Duas coisas fizeram a diferença:as letras,belíssimas e significativas,e a habilidade dos músicos,especialmente o George Lynch!

This is truly Dokken's finest moment.I'll take 'Back For the Attack' over the 'Appetite For Destructions' & the 'Hysterias' of the world anyday. While Dokken's previous efforts were good, this one put them over the top.Not a bad song amongst the bunch.'Night By Night' is my favorite song off of this disc, and for the life of me, I'll never understand why a video/single was never released for that song. It would have been a HUGE hit at the time. 10/10

From: Josep Maria Date: November 13, 2003 at 13:13
10/10! The firs vinyl that I bought. I remember hearing the riff of Kiss of Death and screaming: 'this is for me!!!' Great songs from a great band!

From: Metal T Date: November 25, 2003 at 21:00
One of the best recordings by any band ever ! This album has definitely aged well, and still sounds killer after all these years. 87' was a great year for hard rock & metal, this is proof .

From: txalber Date: December 7, 2003 at 13:14
Back for the Attack is, in my opinion, the best album in the history of music. George Lynch is the best axeman I´ve heard in my fucking life. Compositions, riffs, the voice of Don,...everything is awesome in this album. DOKKEN forever!

From: Date: December 11, 2003 at 4:44
Most Excellent!!!

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 5, 2004 at 12:03
The best songs, the best performances, and the best production job of Dokken's career. BACK FOR THE ATTACK still smokes today. I could listen to 'Mr. Scary' over and over again, and I also love 'Lost Behind The Wall,' 'Heaven Sent' and of course 'Dream Warriors.' This is one of those albums where I know every lyric from front to back. Just excellent!

From: Bizkit82 Date: January 5, 2004 at 20:38
I got handed down a cassette version of the Dream Warriors SINGLE from way back when. Two distinct differences in the album version and the single. The single was cut down time-wise, and the guitar solo has WAY more effects/wetness on it. The album version sounds pretty dry. Even the vocals have more effect than the album cut. The single is better sounding, but hey, it's DOKKEN baby! It's all good no matter how you slice it! Funny how they constantly remixed and messed with stuff in the 80's??!!

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 8, 2004 at 16:35
Hey Bizkit... I have that DREAM WARRIORS cassette single from back in the day too. It has the song 'Back For The Attack' on it which for some odd reason was not included on the 'Back For The Attack' album. That made no sense to me at all. It's a great song, it should get tacked onto the album as a bonus track or something after all these years...

From: Christine Date: January 8, 2004 at 17:56
Freddy, you can find it on the Japanese 'Best of Dokken' disc (in case you don't already have it!)

From: Fat Freddy Date: January 8, 2004 at 18:04
Thanx for the tip Christine... and no, I didn't know the song was available on that CD... I always thought the Japanese 'Best Of' and the one on Rhino Records from a couple of years ago were the same album, just with different covers. Obviously I have some E-Baying to do.

From: Bizkit82 Date: January 8, 2004 at 20:26
Get ready for a bidding war on FLEA-BAY!!

From: SLAYER_FAN Date: April 5, 2004 at 6:41
IS THIS ALBUM MORE MELODIC THAN THE TOOTH AND NAIL,BREAKING THE CHAIN AND UNDER LOCK AND KEY ALBUM? HOW MANY BALLABDS DOES IT HAVE? IS THE ALBUM SIMILAR OR SOUND LIKE 'THE FINAL COUNTDOWN' ALBUM BY EUROPE? IS IT BETTER OR WORSE? I'M THINKING BOUT BUYING IT AND ICOULD USE SOME HELP AND OPINION CAUSE IKNOW THEREARE LOTS OF DOKKEN FAN OUT THERE!! HELLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!

From: SLAYER_FAN Date: April 5, 2004 at 6:48
ANOTHER QUESTION: IS DOKKEN IN A SIMILAR GENRE TO WINGER, EUROPE AND TAKARA(MELODIC METAL) OR POISON,PRETTY BOY FLOYD AND HANOI ROCK(GLAM METAL)OR GUN'N'ROSES,MOTLEY CRUE AND SKID ROW(SLEAZE METAL)OR JUDAS PRIEST ,IRON MAIDEN AND MANOWAR(HEAVY METAL)OR SLAYER,MORBID ANGEL AND DEATH(DEATH METAL) OR BON JOVI,DEF LEPPARD AND VAN HALEN(POP METAL/HARD ROCK) OR WHITESNAKE AND CINDERELLA(BLUES METAL)???????S.O.S

From: Rockhead Date: April 5, 2004 at 7:51
This Cd is not as commercial as Under lock and Key and in Kiss Of Death and Scary they have 2 of their heaviest tunes of this era. Also features Dream Warriors from the Nightmare on Elm Street film which is ace. If you liked ULAK and TAN then there is no reason why you won't like this. Definately NOT Europe, nor Guns and Roses, nor Maiden, Nor Priest. Prbably most similar to Ratt with a better singer (IMO)

From: Rockhead Date: April 5, 2004 at 7:52
P.S-definately not too many ballads on this one

From: slayer_fan Date: April 6, 2004 at 8:00
thanks Rockhead, for the info but how many ballads are there in this album? is stop fighting love a ballad? although you said that their music resemble more of ratt, but i heard many people put them in the melodic metal genre and compare them to europe.

From: Rockhead Date: April 6, 2004 at 8:28
Dokken compared to Europe? Maybe on Europe's 1st 2 cds when they rocked. Tracks 7 and 9 are ballady but this Cd rocks. It's hard to describe, the formula is similar to the 3 previous cd's but whereas the 1st 3 were a pretty even blend, this has more rockier moments. George Lynch shreds on this CD and the riffs are hard and fast. If you like the 1st 3 you'll like this pure and simple because the sound and formula is pretty much the same.

From: Whiplash1972 Date: April 6, 2004 at 9:56
100% kickass CD all the way slayer_fan....no ballads to be found on this one. 'Stop Fighting Love', while probably the 'lightest' song on the disc, is not a ballad. Straight ahead hard rock, and my fave of all time!

From: SLAYER_FAN Date: April 8, 2004 at 2:22
WOW,Whiplash1972,this album really kickass, from kiss of death to dream warrior! although i into more heavier stuff(death metal and thrash metal like my personal all time metal band :slayer),i found this album is simply one of the best!! anyway,i wanna know if there is any album of dokken simply in the heaviness mould of 'live undead' by slayer? HELLPPP!!!!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Whiplash1972 Date: April 8, 2004 at 9:26
Glad you enjoy it man! Dokken may have nothing as heavy as Slayer, but if you enjoyed the heavier stuff off of BFTA, then your next stop Dokken wise should be Tooth & Nail. With songs like 'When Heaven Comes Down', 'Tooth and Nail', and 'Turn on the Action', I think you'd really enjoy it too!You may also wanna grab their first live effort, 'Beast From the East'....

From: Lynchomaniac Date: April 10, 2004 at 9:26
A Melodic Hardrock album that has it all!!!! One of the best albums of all times IMHO!

From: jack Date: April 19, 2004 at 6:36
i think these album is not good compare to tooth and nail. the sound of don dokken is not that loud and clear instead it change a bit! i prefer ratt generally as they have an amazing voice and guitar riff(not to say that dokken don't).tooth and nail v.s out of the cellar, under lock and key v.s invasion of your privacy and back for the attack v.s dancing undercover. of the three comparison album, i would say ratt's album would win them all!

From: jack Date: April 19, 2004 at 6:51
OH YEAH ....AND NIGHT SONGS BY CINDERELLA, APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION BY GUN'N'ROSES AND GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS BY MOTLEY CRUE IS BETTER THAN ANY OF THEM RATT AND DOKKEN ALBUM!!

From: Dean Date: April 19, 2004 at 10:38
Well, here we go again with Jack/Slayerfan/Poisonfan posting tons of comments under different names and sharing different opinions. I'm starting to think that this guy is seriously schizophrenic. If your schizo, when you switch personalities do you switch music tastes? Just wondering. With that said, this album is a classic- right along with Tooth and Nail and Under Lock and Key. Strong songs and killer performances- the last truly essential Dokken disc. 9/10

From: Metal T Date: April 19, 2004 at 15:58
C'mon---Night Songs' Girls' and Appetite' better than 'Back For The Attack' ??????--Im afraid you need to go have your head examined ! You could make a case for Appetite' but Cinderella and Motley Crue NO WAY !---Both Dokken and Ratt are by far superior .

From: jack Date: April 20, 2004 at 4:44
night song is rated by most the number 2 rock/metal album after skid row by skid row and night songs peak at no.13 at the us billboard charts in 1986 while 'girls, girls, girls' does even better charting in the top 10. Does back for the attack 'have' that? AND CINDERELLA IS MORE DEVOTED TO HARD ROCK/METAL MUSIC THAN BOTH RATT OR DOKKEN CAUSE IN THE MID 90'S DOKKEN'S DYSFUNCTIONAL ALBUM TURN INTO CRAP ALT. MUSIC WHILE STILL CLIMBING BY CINDERELLA DON'T(CINDERELLA STICK TO THEIR OWN ROOT).

From: jack Date: April 20, 2004 at 4:52
AND THAT IS WHY CINDERELLA ROCKS!!AND WILL ALWAYS GET MY UTTER RESPECT WHILE DOKKEN?METAL band TURN ALTERNATIVE=betrayer of hard rock/metal music. I MEAN ,ALL THEIR 80'S ALBUM ARE GOOD BUT THEY ARE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO COMPETE WITH THE LIKES OF POISON, MOTLEY CRUE, GUN'N'ROSES, CINDERELLA, BON JOVI, VAN HALEN, KISS AND DEF LEPPARD. THEY ARE ONLY IN THE MOULD OF AVERAGE 80'S METAL/HARD ROCK BAND LIKE RATT, EUROPE, WARRANT, HANOI ROCK,WHITE LION AND LITA FORD(ROCK CHICK).

From: tomcat Date: April 20, 2004 at 6:30
hey,my favorite dokken tune is on this good rockcd: 'burning like a flame'..

From: Rockhead Date: April 20, 2004 at 6:46
Wow, Jack, Slayerfan, Poion fan or whatever your chosen monicker is today-you really vent on this (LOL). Your comments have litle to do with this particular CD. Maybe you should criticise Shadowlife for the alum it is and leave this CD alone. Back for the attack is an excellent album that marries melody and power almost perfectly. Im sorry but IMO this Cd stands up better than ANY Cinderella (good as they are) or Poison album. Maybe you should debate this on the message boards.

From: Blue Tequila Date: April 20, 2004 at 7:00
Actually Jack/Slayerfan/Poisonfan (Freddy...is that you???) Motley Crue 'Girls...' hit #2 in 1987 while that same year Cinderella 'Nightsongs' peaked at #3 and that Dokken BFTA peaked at #13. But I really don't get what your sudden dislike of Dokken is all about, especially when in an earlier post you say 'WOW,Whiplash1972,this album really kickass, from kiss of death to dream warrior!' and 'i found this album is simply one of the best!!'

From: Blue Charvel Date: April 20, 2004 at 9:10
LOL Yeah Pearcy has a...erm...'unique' vocal style...although it fits Ratt rather well, and I like the 'betrayer of hard rock' comment about 'Dysfunctional' making all their previous releases null and void. If I only listened to musicians I respected I'd have to sell all my Yngwie...

From: Cruise Date: April 20, 2004 at 9:37
Isn't arguing about who is the best band a bit like arguing about who the prettiest girl is. It's totally subjective. Music is not a competition! This is a totally awesome record. So is Night Songs IMO. Dokken, Ratt ,Cinderella - they are all great bands. Trying to work out who is the better group is like trying to decide who painted the best picture ever - it depends on taste.

From: jack Date: April 21, 2004 at 0:34
yer right, cruise, dokken and ratt rocks but cinderella rocks better!

From: TheRipper Date: April 21, 2004 at 1:56
Oooh, not quite sure about that. I'll leave it alone at that, as I totally dig Cinderella, but say they are better than Dokken and Ratt...? I agree with Cruise, it all depends on taste, as all are unique and are the best at what they do. And yes, this album kicks ass! Classic Dokken here.

From: Carter Date: April 21, 2004 at 23:58
GREAT MUSIC by a band that knows what Rock should sound like.

Yo Tim that list looks good. ROCK AND ROLL ALL THE WAY bud, some 90's stuff to huh, NIN and marilyn manson do rock, don't forget Rob Zombie, Motorhead, keep the ROCK alive and burning. It's time for us Rock and Metal heads to unite till we get our music back in the mainstream,I don't know about you but I'm sick to my stomach on all this white rap wannabe stuff,i think it's so pathetic that so many white guys and gals are all yo yo and yeah yeah and wearing FUBU, Keep ROCKIN DOKKEN.ROCK 4-LIFE

From: jack Date: April 26, 2004 at 5:50
of all the name of what tim has said, i think cinderella is the best. DOKKEN AND RATT COME A SECOND BEST WHILE THE WORST HAS GOT TO BE MARILYN MANSON.

From: pozermaniac Date: April 26, 2004 at 14:19
I agree with Jack! But Jack dont forget to Bless Jon Bon Jovi for Cinderella.Ahhhh!!!Back in 1995 i saw Dokken live, they were support group in a Bon Jovi concert!Thank God they were just a support group!Ha!ha!ha!Sad but true!

best dokken record, and best of lynch's playing period. ps I met Mr. Scary Twice!!

From: AOR freaky Date: April 30, 2004 at 8:35
Without a shadow of a doubt their best ! And mr. Lynch is the top guitarist ! Listen to this record and you know why ! BRILLIANT !

From: pozermaniac Date: April 30, 2004 at 12:20
I agree.George Lynch is one of the best 80s & 90s guitarists!Check out the Lynch Mob -Wicked Sensation-!

From: dave Date: April 30, 2004 at 18:38
This is the best dokken record there ever was or will be followed by Beast from the east. I wore out my tapes of this record when i was growing up. The guitar sound is F.ckin incredible not to mention Mr.scary's equimpment. He has the cooolest guitar's on earth or any or planet, and the talent to back it up. No one sounds like Mr. Scary!!

From: jack Date: May 5, 2004 at 6:26
In my opinion, the worst dokken album compare with the previous 3 album. Although there is 13 songs here(the most compare to the previous 3 which only have 10),only 3(1,2,13) songs is really good compare to 7 songs(1-3,6,7,9,10) in tooth&nail,5 songs(1,4,6,9,10) in under lock...&7 songs(3,5-10) in breaking the chain. But the best compared to all the other dokken album!

Not one to comment all the time on cds, but being the HUGE Dokken fan that I am.....I read this person's comments from Australia and HAD to respond. 'Back for the Attack' is a GREAT album...and if you don't think that 'Sleepless Nights' is one of Dokken's BEST songs...then....YOU are off your 'rocker'....

From: Rockhead Date: May 5, 2004 at 15:51
Hey JLP-totally agree the CD is brilliant-but if you or I make the same comment over and over and over it just loses its focus.

After listening to this album a few moretimes,i realize just how good and electrifying this album. All the songs here are great rocking songs it made me why i doubt them before. Now i realise they are just as good as cinderella and motley crue.Prisoner and dream warrior is the best in my opinion while mR SCARY is more than 4 minutes of intense guitar madness.Thumbs up to Dokken, one of the best hard rock/metal band ever(WHILE ALSO GOT THE TAG OF BEING ONE OF THE MOST UNDERATED)

From: jack Date: May 25, 2004 at 3:46
Don't mean to talk too much again but i would really like to get some opinion from 'you guys' cause 'you guys' are real good at this!Which band do you guys think is the best at blending metal with melody?Dokken?Europe?Winger?Def Leppard?orwhite lion? Thanks for your time!

From: TIM (2) Date: June 2, 2004 at 9:19
Great CD, and as much as I like the band I have to say out of Jacks list I'll go with Def Leppard for mixing metal with melody. They've certainly had the most success. Dokken are not big on the melody, and the other bands veer the other way. If you like more melody you may find Don Dokkens 'Up From the Ashes' a better buy...

If you are beginning to listen to hard rock bands, this record is a must have. On the first day at Hard Rock school this will be your first homework!!! Killer songs, awesome guitar playin´ and sound in general. You can not listen to songs like Night by Night if your stereo hasn´t the volume all the way up. It does not have the same effect if it´s played in lower volume, you have to feel the feedback, the energy coming through the speakers. I´m proud to know what rock´s about after listen this cd

From: jack Date: June 24, 2004 at 5:33
ITs a shame australia don't have a band quite like Dokken. Candy harlot, maybe my country's most popular and successful hard rock/hair metal band,is even worse than poison. Totally unoriginal and crappy. Even japan can produce great hard rock/metal bands like EZO and Takara.Man, germany,u.s.a(especially L.A)and even japan are really lucky!

From: Big Papa K Date: June 26, 2004 at 1:19
The album starts off very strong, and even sounds a little like a European hard rock band (such as the track 'Night By Night'). The problem with the album is that by the second half, it becomes a tiresome listen as the album is probably 15 minutes too long. Does end on a good note with 'Dream Warriors'. 7/10

From: Rick Thunder Date: July 14, 2004 at 6:39
DOKKEN IS DOKKEN THERE'S NO WORDS TO SAY WHAT ARE THEY ARE, FOR ME THEY ARE LIKE GODS OF 80'S HARD ROCK MUSIC, THEY ARE BETWEEN HARD ROCK AND MELODIC HEAVY METAL, WHEN YOU LISTEN THIS BAND, YOU JUST GO TO A MUSICAL JOURNEY WHERE THE POWERFUL GUITARS GIVE YOU THE FORCE OF LIFE, GEORGE LYNCH IS THE BEST GUITARMAN TO MAKE THIS KIND OF TUNES. REMEMBER:KISS OF DEATH.

From: Wotty Date: August 15, 2004 at 19:28
A lot of arguments still follow this band, but this to me is the definitive DOKKEN.O.K so they argued in the 80s,but they managed to produce a classic like this.Their best album, make up your own mind, its my favourite DOKKEN album.

From: Geoff Date: August 15, 2004 at 20:18
Don't ever skip any tracks when I play this one, so that's got to say something about it. Also, the fact that it's one of the most brilliant delicious riff filled melodic hard rock albums of all time also idicates it's a winner. Superb album and probably my favourite Dokken release, though there are some great rivals. Killer CD!!! 9.5/10

From: GlennVanWiddle Date: August 17, 2004 at 16:56
On a slightly different note, how cool is that bit in the 'Dream Warriors' video where George Lynch jumps through the wall and plays a solo to Patricia Arquette? Well, I liked it, anyway. Shame about Don's miming, though...

From: onemorecast Date: November 8, 2004 at 23:26
they had it all together for this. Without a doubt this was their finest work. It hasn't lost any luster all these years later. Dokken was a band that got better with every album and this was the peak.

From: Geoff Date: March 20, 2005 at 6:49
Hey spaniard, to each their own and I hate to sound like AOR Freaky or someone with a statement like this, but perhaps if you think this disc is 'so poor' I suggest this might not be the site for you...? Fan or not, if one cannot appreciate the brilliance of this disc (And I somehow think we've listened just fine thanks) I doubt you really have ties to the melodic rock / hard rock scene. And above I see you call House of Shakira boring? Hmm... I got questions about you...

From: Hellas Date: March 28, 2005 at 3:45
This album is just perfect. But when it comes to Lynch's guitar solos, words lose their meaning! By far the best work ever done by an axeman. So I can understand why Don never talks about this one. George is the shining light and Don just follows behind. No wonder why they broke up after this album. Guitar work from outer space in great songs, with the appropriate voice and solid rhythm section. A killing combination for one of the few 10/10 albums of melodic hard rock...

From: jack Date: April 8, 2005 at 4:36
spaniard, this album reeks of heavy metal brilliance. If you listen to dokken music carefully, they are very similar to metal legends like iron maiden and judas priest-robotic operatic vocals, flowing melodies and killer riffs. Dokken doesn't resemble glam or hair metal much. Problem is this record contain filler unlike tooth and nail and under lock and key. Dream warrior,mr scary and kiss of death are top-notch tracks but all the other are just above average. So,i would agree with u no.25 is a bit

13 killer songs, no fillers, this is as good as it gets!! Dokken's very best cd ever, no contest! I like every song on it, very focused, great production, the band really made their best performance ever on this one - vocals, guitars, rhythm section, everything is super! On their other cds I found one or two fillers, here you have 13 winners!! Super hits Burning like a flame and Dream warriors are awesome, also Heaven sent, Prisoner and Kiss of death. One of my favourites is Stop fighting love!!

This is my favorite Dokken album. I love their sound and wish they could get back to it. Everything thing here is classic. George Lynch played his ass off on this one and he has gone down hill ever since (IMO).

This Cd seems cool to me. No into Dokken yet but hopefully songwriting will jump on me. Just Find it not too catchy with not enough hooks, but George Lynch is amazing, one of those incrdible guitar players who just had that killer tone...very much like Roobin Crosby and Warren De Martini. Loving CRY OF THE GYPSY, KISS OF DEATH, DREAM WARRIORS and MR SCARY. fuckin great cd

From: Priest On E Date: April 9, 2006 at 17:58
This is how Ratt should have sounded as they progressed...very heavy pop metal...guitars more up front unlike previous albums. Love KISS OF DEATH, CRY OF THE GYPSY, SO MANY TEARS, MR SCARY, SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, DREAM WARRIORS. Not too keen on BURNING LIKE A FLAME...

I don't find this album as great or as melodic as people make it out to be. It's good, but 'Under Lock and Key' is a superior album in my opinion. My favorite songs would be the very melodic 'So Many Tears' and my favorite Dokken song of all time 'Dream Warriors'. 'Burning Like A Flame' has a cool riff. 'Kiss of Death' and 'Mr. Scary' are good too. Love that solo to 'Kiss Of Death'. The production is great! It's how a true hard rock album should sound like. 8/10

From: sanxdowntherainbow Date: December 12, 2006 at 13:54
Dokken at its BEST! A lot of people consider KiSS OF DEATH as the best Heavy metal song ever made! Yes, I agree with them! THIS IS WHAT HEAVY METAL/HARD ROCK -or whatever u wanna call it- IS ABOUT TO BE! Catchy choruses, screamin' vocals, Face melting solos, blast bass and kick ass Drums! THE BEST DOKKEN ALBUM EVER! A+++++++++ 100/10

From: so-many-tears Date: December 27, 2006 at 16:05
This album was the peak in Dokken's career. I don't think a next album could've been as good as this. The production was superb. The music was very well written and performed. You have it all in this package as far as melodies, great vocals, superb guitar work, awesome bass lines and well performed drums. The music is well structured and not simple. In my opinion is was never a catchy album but their best as far as music goes. It was a very complete album with no fillers.

From: Clayton77 Date: January 6, 2007 at 19:05

the last album of dokken that i love. after this one they disbanded and when they re-formed they changed their sound to worse. this one has one badness-too many songs here and some of these are fillers. my favs: Kiss of Death, Night by Night, Heaven Sent, Mr. Scary (masterpiece by lynch), Burning Like a Flame and Dream Warriors

From: gorilin Date: June 28, 2009 at 16:08
Prisoner,Heavent Sent, and Freddy´s DREAM WARRIORS;no way,Dokken will never reach that status again.Master songs,in a master ablum in the golden decade. The best voice of all times, and one of the best guitar players. This album made Dokken famous, and it sent them to the first category. The others, are second-hand albums in comparison to this one. WILL THEY EVER MAKE SOMETHING SIMILAR???

80s metal connoseurs commonly cite "Tooth & Nail" or "Under Lock & Key" as Dokken's benchmark moment, but in my totally useless opinion, this album destroys both of 'em like Godzilla stomping on downtown Tokyo, easily ranks as their best release, and deserves to be considered a genuine classic. This is one of those CDs that once I pull it out, I don't want to put it back on the shelf and wind up spinning it repeatedly for several days. Anyone looking for masterful guitar work, soaring vocals, "holy cow!" hooks, slick melodies, anthemic choruses, and great production (at least by 80s standards) should snatch this up quicker than a leprechaun grabbing a pot o' gold.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 6, 2011 at 20:01
One of their most commercial albums and let me tell you guys..this one rocks!!! ...they were at the peak of their career when it was released..."Kiss Of Death","Prisoner","Night By Night","So Many Tears","Burning Like a Flame","Stop Fighting Love"(i've always been into this song, love it and obviously my personal fave of the album ),"Sleepless Nights" & "Dream Warriors"(a very good AORish one)...80's stuff my friends..what else can i say...93/100

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 7, 2011 at 12:59
I actually find this one to be heavier and a little LESS commercial than Under Lock and Key, Rick. A great album, and the more overlooked of the three classic '80's Dokken albums, as there weren't really any huge radio hits like from the previous two releases. But man, these guys took themselves so fuckin' SERIOUSLY! The songs are great, and the melodies and riffs are all top-quality, but there just isn't a drop of fun to be had. Which is fine, there are other bands for that sort of thing, but "fun" is definitely not what Dokken does.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 7, 2011 at 18:56
Well my friend Doghouse Reilly IMHO i think that Tooth & Nail,Under Lock And Key and Back For The Attack are more or less in the same line...undoubtebly they wanted to be part of the media(Mtv and some others)..i feel that even though these guys were "on" in the music scene they were overshadowed by other bands that even maybe did not have the quality that Dokken had a that stage...cheers mate!!!

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 8, 2011 at 1:54
No argument there, Rick. But to me, Back For The Attack was the heaviest and least "commercial" of the three. Even though they were from L.A. and wore stupid clothes, for me, Dokken always occupied a place much closer to a heavier band like, oh, say, Scorpions (interesting, considering Don almost got the job as the new Scorps singer when Klaus had throat surgery and it was unclear if he would be able to ing), than someone like Poison or Motley Crue. Also interesting to note that Back For The Attack is such a great record, but the band themselves were in such a sorry state at the time, due to drugs and squabbling among themselves.

All I have to say is, my rating style is there is no cd that is a perfect 10 for me. BUT, this cd is so close I might as well call it that. Definitely in my top 1-2. Can not recommend this enough, a must have!

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 26, 2012 at 15:46
Also interesting to note that more than a few people seemed to think "Burning Like A Flame" was a poor choice for a first single, even going so far as to blame the albums's lack of commercial success (compared withto its two predecesspartly on that factor. My girlfriend claims she hadn't been impressed when that song first came out, but personally, I think it's one of the better ones on the disc. Really, the ony fillers for me are the cheesefest "Dream Warriors" (wasn't really supposed to be on the album originally anyway), and Lynch's endless noodling on "Mr. Scary."

From: edwithmj Date: January 26, 2012 at 18:20
Compared to the first three albums I consider this to be the worst of the first four classic Dokken albums. It's far less commercial and it took me longer to get into it but I still think that there is a lot of filler here. Kiss of Death is a very heavy starter and it lasts a bit too long for me; Prisoner is one of my favourites here, nice and catchy with a good chorus; Night By Night is another goodie; Standing In The Shadows is filler; Heaven Sent is also filler and seems to drone on with boring vocals; being a fan of solos I enjoy Mr. Scary, good melody and it flows splendidly; So Many Tears is OK because of the chorus; Burning Like a Flame is another standout; Lost Behind The Wall starts off well but doesn't deliver; Stop Fighting Love is usually the last track for me and it's a goodie but I can't seem to remember how Sleepless Night and Cry of the Gypsy go; lastly Dream Warriors is OK but nothing to shout about. I was disappointed with this album but it still has a few highlights.

This isn't just Dokken's best album it's one of the best rock albums of all time. Every song has a fantastic hook and outstanding melody. Burning Like a Flame even ventures into groove metat and even though there's love songs, there's no ballads in the bunch. This is straight up, in your face, guitar driven melodic mayhem.

From: Doug Date: January 29, 2015 at 19:09
"Sleepless Nights" is a frickin' awesome song, the guitar riff is monstrous. "edwithmj" your entry above in '12, dude you must have been smoking the hippie lettuce if you can't remember how this song goes.

Simply the Best Dokken álbum! I think this is Dokken finest hour, great songs, Kiss of Death, Prisoner, Heaven Sent, Mr Scary, So Many Tears, Stop Fighting Love, Dokken is one of the best bands of the 80´s. Ro

From: titothetitan Date: April 26, 2019 at 12:52
I agree that this their best album. It's even better than the killer 'Under Lock And Key'. Lynch has never sounded so amazing with his riffs as it sounds here. Production is very good. The definitive Dokken album.
