The quintessential top-down, summertime, hard rock, stereo-cranking experience. 'Summertime Girls' is worth the price of this CD alone. Tons of other stellar moments makes this the best album they ever released.

One of the best and most underrated bands of the 80s...This album has a killer sound for an 1985 release...listening to the songs and the production in particular I most admit these guys were ahead of their time...Kevin Beamish has done a very good job with Y&T. For me this album represents everything Autograph lacked in melody and yet they still know how to rock'n'roll even though a lot of the tracks are very 'pop orientated' and polished...Can't go wrong with these guys! Killer album...

Thereīs more keyboards on this album than it was before. Some parts of those keys sounds little too 'pussy' for this kind of band, but in the other hand, some tracks wouldnīt be nothing whithout it. Anyways, great album and good melodics on it. Just to pick a few, In The Name Of Rock, Face Like An Angel and Anytime At All are real ass-kickers.

They really tried to capitalize on the hair band explosion with this album by going a little away from the pounding rock anthems and moving to the catchy hooks of 'Summertime Girls' (great video) and 'I'm a Red Blooded Fun Loving 'All American Boy''. Still though, a great CD you should all have.

It would be easy to slag this album for being overly commercial, too many pop hooks, keyboards, etc. But I'm a huge Y&T fan and I just can't put 'em down. This album has its share of rockers, like 'In The Name Of Rock', 'Anything For Money', 'Don't Tell Me What To Wear', and 'Looks Like Trouble'. 'Summertime Girls' is a minor 80s classic (#55 on the charts), and about the only Y&T song that still gets much airplay.

The video for Summertime Girls with the chick pouring cooking oil on her leather cat suit is fantastic! Say what you want, the 80's flash scene will go down as the greatest display in history. You may look back in horror now at your shoulder length hair teased with Pink Aqua Net, but at the time it flat out RULED!

This cd isnt bad, much better than later albums(like Ten), some stuff is really cheesy(all American Boy), and some stuff flat out rocks(In the Name of Rock, Summertime Girls). A commercial albums that still has its good moments. Recommended if you like this band already, but I still recommend Earthshaker or Mean Streak over this.

Ahhhh....the 80s. When music was good and the videos with hot chicks ruled. SUMMERTIME GIRLS is a classic, no, make it CLASSIC. The best known song from this band. That's why i love the 80s.

Another slip in quality. They seem to be running out of ideas and the fall in quality is greater between this and 'In Rock We Trust' than between 'Mean Streak' and 'In Rock We Trust'. 'Summertime Girls' is very good pop song in the vein of Van Halen's 'Jump'. Too much of this is just lazy hard rock ('All American Boy' and 'Your Mama Don't Dance'). 5/10

To Big Papa K: Buddy, you are reviewing a 1985 album in year 2004. Just accept and enjoy it as a great Y&T album, and don't analyse it too much. It is nearly 20 years on. Compared to much of what we hear today, by any standards, this is still superb. How many of today's guitarists can play like Dave Meniketti, or guitarists from Dokken, Great White and Ratt to name a few? Listen to 'Rock Me' by Great White to hear the masterpiece it really is. I really agree with you Rocktron ! Y&T is one of the greatest acts ever ! And Meniketti a superb guitarist ! All their albums are good, and with Earthshaker they have one of the ALL TIME GREATEST HARDROCK ALBUMS released, i.m.o. even the BEST EVER ! And indeed, bands of 2004 are mostly far inferior to those in the sixties, seventies and eighties ! They could play and write song. The turning point was in the nineties, with Nirvana. Now it's not important if you can play,you have to have attitude

Rocktron, I don't understand your critique of my review. A weak album is a weak album (in my opinion) no matter when I am listening to it or when it was released. I like their four albums before this one. I don't really care that much how todays guitarist stack up to Dave Meniketti, because songs are more important to me than the players. Sure, he is very talented, but I just feel that this is an average album. I do agree with you on 'Rock Me'. That is my favorite Great White song.

Big Papa K: No, no, I am not questioning the quality or the content of your review(s), but the timing. Do scholars of literature still argue the merits of Shakespeare's King Lear when compared to Hamlet, or are they accepted as great works? Future generations could possibly have endless debates! In a Rock Music context, there are many new and young listeners who haven't heard of Y&T, so perhaps your comments are justified and of benefit to those wanting to purchase the CDs. London, England.

Guess i gotta chime in here because i never viewed this as a slip in quality. 'Anytime at all' has the ultimate melodic chorus plus stuff like 'All American Boy''Anything for money''Face like an Angel' were all awesome. While i def. loved earlier Y-n-T-this was the first one i got into in it's entirety and led me into giving the previous ones a closer listen. I thought Contagious was a pretty decent follow up too.

This was the first tape i got by Y&T and i think the best, or at least the most fun. I really don't know why they didn't make it big, i think that they are better than many of the 'hair band' that sold millions of records.

Poppier Y&T than before. I just hated Summertime Girls. Last summer in Swedenrock their changed my opinion for that song. They cranked guitars up and rocked the song through with rougher sounds and there it was. I just hope they would re-record that song the way the play it live. For the album 7/10

This album has 'summer' written all over it, and I'm not just talking about Summertime Girls. When I listen to this CD I can almost feel the wind blowing through my hair, smell the BBQ and see those beautiful girls at KlineLine Pond (local flavor there). I'm not kidding, do yourself a favor and give this one a spin again today... I don't care how many times you've heard it, it never gets old. To me, this CD should be ranked up their with Slippery When Wet and Hysteria for mid 80's pop-metal!

I love this album.'Anytime At All', 'Summertime Girls' and 'Face Like An Angel' are all great pieces of 80's commercial hard rock. The opening track also stick out as a highlight for me. Get this at any cost!

Yet another good one. More commercial sounding than 'In Rock We Trust' especially on tracks like 'Summertime Girls, 'Anytime At All' & 'Face Like An Angel' all of which feature more prominant Keys than than before. 'All American Boy' is ok, but i prefer the version on Van Stephenson's mighty 'Righteous Anger'album. 'Your Mamma Don't Dance' isn't exactly spectacular either. Apart from those 2 a damn fine album.

I can see why longtime Y&T fans may have been upset at this, but the bottom line is that this is killer melodic rock. Summertime Girls will always be a favorite of mine (the keyz on this are brilliant), and 'Anytime at All', 'All American Boy', and 'Don't Tell me What to wear' are all highlights. A must for all 80's rock fanz!

Now this is where I step in. What a melodic hard rock album! What a killer sound, awesome songs! This is more like it. I can understand the fans of thier earlier stuff might have been disappointed, but I was delighted to seem them try some more melodic and memorable songs like 'Anytime at all', 'Face like and angel' and 'Hands of time'. Every rocker inbetween is awesome too. There's nothing wrong with rocking hard, but a bit of melody and good choruses never hurt anyone. Great disc and band.

Y&T's most easy listening album is 'Down for the Count' 2 memorable songs are on this album: Anything For Money :d and the great ballad 'Hands of Time' ;D The other songs vary from okay (In the name of Rock, Face like an angel) to the biggest junk (Summertime Girls, Your mama don't dance:eekever performed by this legendary band. The music industry was to blame this musical direction like many other bands in 1985 were forced to: Dio, Twisted Sister, Ozzy, Motley Crue...

Trading their traditional hard rock sound to cash in on the commercial environment of the day. For Y&T & many other rockers of the 70's, it worked to get their name on the map, spawning one of the all time best cheesy 80's anthems 'Summertime Girls'.

Compared to today's crap this is Killer. It is not the best they have done though.They went searchin for the greenbacks and IMO came up short.I guess they tried too hard,or not hard enough. But it does bespeak of of a better time.Dave has a killer voice,and he plays a mean guitar...7/10!!

Without a doubt the album I like(d) the least of their 80's efforts. This is one felt hasted and rushed. Another album ordered by the record company? Even the cover was horrible. There are (or were) no such thing as a bad Y&T album so of course this one had it's moments too. Like the hit single Summertime Girls, Anytime At All, Face Like An Angel. Great stuff! American Boy and Your Mama Don't Dance are horrible....Looks Like Trouble, Don't Tell Me aren't very good either.

Great album, I love the song Summertime Girls, it's a great summer song. I have recently bought the music channel VH1 and they send a program which name is: VH1 Rocks, it's a hard rock program that sends ONLY 80's hard rock and some newer hard rock songs. It was there I saw the video for Summertime Girls. MTV doesn't send those kinda videos no more, goddamn punks!!! We should make a blog or something like that for MTV that they start sending the Headbangers Ball show from the beginnig (1987)!!!

Last Album with A&M before moving to Geffen. Down For the Count saw Y&T changing their classic hard rock/havy metal style into a more commercial way. Summertime Girls and Anytime At All are 2 AOR gems with tons of keyboards! Not the best Y&T cd, but still a must have.

After the grade A American beef of the earlier albums Y&T produce a slice of mouldy,bland processed cheese fit for a rancid burger from mcdeath. Several songs contend for the title of most annoying song of all time including the crappy Your Mama Don`t Dance and the tragic Summertime Girls.SAD,BAD and incredibly STUPID!!! 35/100

I saw someone comment on Y&T and thought I could share an idea or two. I do disagree with Shark on JUST how bad it is but agree that it is pretty bad for Dave and Co. compared to the rest. Especially the brutal genius that was "In Rock We Trust". This was a step towards more MTV airtime but wasn't recieved well by fans. We accepted it, rocked a little to it but kinda dismissed it among IRWT, 10, Contagious and all that came before them. 75/100

This is the easiest Y&T album to get into. It has a slick production, keyboards, heavy guitars, great lyrics and powerful rockin' vocals. All the songs are great but my favourites are Anytime At All, All American Boy and Summertime Girls. Definitely my favourite by Y&T so far!

Anh, BigPapaK got it right earlier in this thread - a slip in quality for Y&T. It got them noticed (Summertime Girls) which is great, but it's not the great rock longtime fans know these guys are capable of. Kind of like comparing Def Leppard's "High n Dry" (great) to "Adrenalize" (shitty). Although in fairness to Y&T, I would not call any of their albums shitty, because they went back to their roots and still rock. Def Leppard is a different, much sadder story.
