Like 'em or hate 'em , there is no denying that this is probably their best album in quite a long time. I did like 'Bounce' quite a lot, but this is, consistency wise, better than that & the very mediocre 'Crush' album. 'Have A Nice Day' is a great opener, catchy as hell & an obvious first single. There is a definate edginess to some of the tracks, with a slightly darker, more modern sound on some 'I Wanna Be Loved' & 'Novocaine' being cases in point.

The ballads are also present aswell, but are all of good quality. There are lots of different versions of this cd Jap,US,Euro, and I have to say that the one to go for is the Euro version, which has a less safer running order than it's US counterpart. You also get a Ltd Edition DVD of 5 tracks from 'Atlantic City' which are a good addition. So, A very good album in my book. If you don't like Bon Jovi, this isn't going to change your mind, If you do, then you will be more than satisfied>

From: TIM (2) Date: October 3, 2005 at 14:04
I'm not so enthusiastic about this I'm afraid. It actually reminds me a little of "These Days", it's reasonable background music & hardly has any fillers but nor does it really have many highlights. Most of this just washes over me, and the title track is just a clone of "It's My Life" or "Keep the Faith" etc etc. It says a great deal that it's still an album highlight though. Setting aside the stature of the band involved, there are a lot of modern rock discs more worthy of your money IMO. 6/10.

From: Geoff Date: October 3, 2005 at 21:44
I can see how people with this version could be a little disappointed (2 versions of the worst song on the disc!!!), but I have the Jap version and love it. The 3 absent songs (especially 'Dirty little secret') are essential, but from this version - the first 3 songs are all great, and then 'I am' (my fave), 'Complicated', 'Novacaine' and 'Story of my life' are all gems. The rest are ok except 'Bells' and 'Who says' which are bad, but this is easily the best of their last 3 CDs. Nice surprise.

The only version of this CD worth owning is the Jap. version. The bonus rockers ("Dirty Little Secret" & "Unbreakable") are killer and it's a shame the band didn't include them on the U.S. release. Referring only to the Jap. edition, this is the best CD BON JOVI has put out in a long, long time. No, it's not as good as their "Slippery" glory days when they rocked "New Jersey," but it's cool to have the boys back delivering good songs. Bottom line, I had a nice day when I picked this one up!!

From: FoJ Date: October 8, 2005 at 8:59
I loved Bounce. This album is a big disappointment. Tim nailed it when he called it good background music. Other than the title track, nothing grabs me at all. I think the songwriting's kinda stale. "Last Cigarette" is just stupid. I'll be selling this one.

From: rockers2000 Date: October 10, 2005 at 4:59
This album totally sucks. Dun even waste ur money on this one. The only great songs on this album are "Have A Nice Day", "Dirty Little Secret" & "Unbreakable". Where are the sounds of "New Jersey" & "Slippery when Wet"? Disappointing....

From: AOR freaky Date: October 14, 2005 at 3:16
I don't agree that this record totally sucks. O.K., it's far from the debut and other masterpieces, but it has some decent songs. But, the heydays of Bon Jovi are over, that's a fact ! Make up you own mind. Sometimes it's indeed a bit too modern sounding. And the cover : that's ridiculous !

From: Lovedrive Date: October 17, 2005 at 5:53
No está mal! destaco por encima del resto: "Dirty Little secret" y "Last man standing".

From: ggv3004 Date: October 29, 2005 at 6:47

From: ggv3004 Date: October 29, 2005 at 6:50

From: pereira Date: November 17, 2005 at 21:50

From: swriter Date: November 24, 2005 at 18:43
not bad at all, I like this one, even Bells, HANDay is good as well as Complicated, Who Says, Loved, I am, and Story are also good tunes. Why is Secret and Unbreakable not on this release, Unbreakable is better then all songs!!!! A few modern sounds mixed with old BJovi for a good mix and the best BJovi in a while!!!

From: Kip Date: January 15, 2006 at 6:34
This is a very consistant album, what it lacks is that one super standout if you're like me and not taken by their first single, the title track. It's also peppered with a dash of modernism in the rock, so melodic rock purists will have a hard time enjoying it for what it is, and what it is is a solid, consistant collection of tunes, probably their best effore since "These Days" but not up those those standards. Out of the 15 songs, the only 2 I don't particulary like are tracks 12 and 14. 7/10

From: Kip Date: January 15, 2006 at 6:38
sorry, I didn't realize my track listing was different. I have the Japanese version with bonus tracks. That's kind of too bad because my favorite tracks on my disc are the first one and the last one. "These Open Arms" is a great tune and I have no idea why it's not on this version here, and Dirty Little Secret is worth keeping too. If you're a Bon Jovi fan and completist, track down the Jap pressing.

From: wzcj02 Date: May 22, 2006 at 15:34
only a few good songs, rest are crap but still better than crush.

From: jmikep Date: June 29, 2006 at 19:02
I wanted to love this album. After a few dozen playings, it just comes off as boring. There's only 2 songs that I find myself singing along with and there was twice that many on Bounce, which apparently most everyone hated. The only thing I could find on this that I really liked was the re-working of "Last Man Standing." On another note, the album comes across even worse after seeing the songs played live. You don't see "Bon Jovi" anymore, it's just Jon and his backing band. Horrible show.

From: ThunderDan Date: July 21, 2006 at 16:21
Like Crush, the best songs are left off for the Jap pressing. All 3 bonus tracks from HAND are awesome! Both rockers fare better than those of the US version (w/ the exception of the title track), and 'These Open Arms' blows away the other ballads from the album. Certainly worth the $$ for the Jap version.

From: le_baron_boy Date: October 3, 2006 at 22:39
UN MUY MAL DISCO NO VALE LA PENA ESCUCHARLO, SALVO ALGUN QUE OTRO TEMA ESTO SENCILLAMENTE ESTA MUY LEJOS DE SER HARD ROCK, SOLO QUEDAN LAS CENIZAS DEL BON JOVI DE LOS 80 QUIEZAS ESTE DISCO SEA EL PEOR DE BON JOVI!!!!!! BAD, BAD, BAD, ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/10

From: RAMYRO-LARSON Date: October 5, 2006 at 14:36

From: PATRICIA Date: October 6, 2006 at 12:20

From: rick kerch vzla Date: November 27, 2006 at 21:06
To say bad things about this album is a waste of time.I would rather ask the guys from Bon Jovi:GO BACK TO THE JERSEY ERA PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!.

From: Metalmusicman Date: January 1, 2007 at 17:51
I don't have the Jap version, but I have heard "Dirty Little Secret" and it is a hum dinger!!! I have the US version CD/DVD combo with the bonus tracks and concert. Still very cool as some of the live songs are unreleased. As for the disc itself, I have to say, it is probably the best of the last 3. Much more polished and the band seems to really be having fun with this one. Not to mention just how catchy this thing is the very first listen. If you hear it, you'll buy it.

From: walesforever Date: April 2, 2007 at 16:35
Absolute pure Crap. Last Man Standing is a song which just reflects how bigheaded Jon is- because it all about him. Richie, Hugh, Tico and Dave, do yourself a favour form your own band and actually make music that isn't Johny Cash crossed with My Chemical Romance crossed with N-Sync

From: erik Date: April 3, 2007 at 4:34
Amen to that walesforever. This is just about putting a record out and making money. Pitty they still get a chance to bring out crap like this. Seriously lots of bands are struggling to get a contract and this band is waisting its oppertunity. Avoid.

From: ninjapeter Date: June 7, 2007 at 5:18
I have every album this band has ever done but from the crossroads album onward they they keep getting worse. Sadly I have to say that I guess this band is limited in talent because they started good but fizzled out. I keep hoping they will satisfy their fan base from the early days but keep being disappointed in a big way. I guess I will have to stop buying their albums from now on. I rate this album a poor 3/10. Give it up guys, you suck.

From: ninjapeter Date: June 7, 2007 at 5:24
I hear the next album called Lost Highway is going to be the worst to date. It is an album paying homage to Nashville, a country album, yuck. I definately won't be buying that one. Please go away Bon crap Jovi.

From: Lennie Date: June 7, 2007 at 8:51
Looks like youve got the wrong version ninjapeter, cos my version has the bonus tracks 'Dirty Little Secret' and 'Unbreakable' both of which are melodic hard rock gems. Add to that tracks 1,5,8,9,10 & 11 all of which are good rockers, results in this being BJs best outing in some years! This doesnt compare with debut or say New Jersey, but if a new band recorded this album everyone would be raving about how good it is! A rating of 4.76 for this is a joke! At least 8/10 in my book.

From: Lennie Date: June 7, 2007 at 8:56
& ninjapeter to your next comment....if after 25 years of recording, a band cant experiment with their new album and create a sound which is obviously close to their heart and try to appeal to a new fan base, when can they do it? If you know its going to pay homeage to Nashville and that's not your style, dont buy it....simple as that! I actually quite like some softer country styles and am looking forward to hearing this new one.

From: ninjapeter Date: June 7, 2007 at 19:42
Hi Lennie, I don't have the version with those songs on it so I can't speak of that version but the one I have I think it is a very poor album that doesn't rock at all. I agree that a band can experiment all they want but they can't change the basic sound completely, what are they going to do next, techno or rap, no thanks. I don't think the kids growing up today are going to give a chance of an old band like BJ so they should keep the fans that stuck with them from the start.

From: ninjapeter Date: June 7, 2007 at 19:45
I did say I won't be buying the new album. The softer country isn't really country at all, it is more on the side of pop, like Leann Rymes, Keith Urban, Faith Hill or Shania Twain.

From: ninjapeter Date: June 7, 2007 at 19:55
A band name is like a product name so you know what you are getting. Should Chevy change to Ford? If a band wants to do something very different thats fine but they should also change the name. That is all I am trying to say. Jon Bon Jovi even changed his own name from Jon Bongiovi (his real name) at the beginning.

From: Lennie Date: June 8, 2007 at 9:30
its still their best album in ten years and definitely worth more than 4/10. To say that its 'a poor album that doesnt rock at all' is v strange. As previously stated there are at least 9 rockers on my version!

From: ninjapeter Date: June 8, 2007 at 15:33
Hi Lennie again. I'm glad you like it, but if you read what people have even written and the low score most people would disagree with you. There sales have been dropping badly for years too. Sorry to say.

From: Lennie Date: June 11, 2007 at 8:06
Well I guess people expecting the band to hark back to the mid-eighties are always going to disappointed. 20 years on, and the band are still producing good, well written and mature rock songs. Ive now heard 'Lost Highway' and I think it is a very good album. A mixture of up-beat feel good songs and heartfelt ballads. At least 4 or 5 hits for sure. Anyone expecting 'Bad Medicine' will hate it by the way.

From: XabDeth Date: July 25, 2007 at 23:53

From: YIRO SEVENTH Date: October 13, 2007 at 21:49

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 11:27
Their best for a long time since New Jersey.

From: ryerordstar Date: March 6, 2008 at 14:07
I loved this CD, Novocaine, Last Cigarette, HAND, and Complicated are the stand-outs. I only wish they would start cranking out some classic style Bon Jovi rockers again. Getting tired of all the slow stuff. But still a very good disc.

From: hair metal again Date: July 17, 2011 at 1:43
pretty good release for BJ.once again you have a special opener with "have a nice day",a gem like "dirty little secret" and some fine moments like "i want to be loved","wherever you are" and "novocaine".i am satisfied with that

From: MelodicMetal4Ever Date: May 20, 2021 at 20:12
Gotta agree with Lennie. If you listen to this album and FORGET this is a BON JOVI cd tell me if your mind changes? There are plenty of very well written songs on this album. Does it rock like Bon Jovi of old?. Definitely not but thinking of this cd performed by a new band I think more people would like it. just my opinion.
