2XS (too excess) is a moniker well chosen for the bands 13th studio delivery, not to mention, the artwork screams for the content within to be heard. Just as the early 80's, to some extent, brought about change to Nazareth's sound, it was also certainly evident that the boyz were intent on kindeling that new fire with their old fury. The Rock & Roll landscsape was now viable again, as punk, & disco had come & gone. Arena rock now defined the sound of dinosaur dubbed 70's acts such as Styx, Journey, Kansas, REO Speedwagon & yes, even Nazareth. Yet, this batch of songs stands tall today, which is no small feat for rock & roll that genesized from 1982. Just as the previous two albums delved into West Coast & New Wave terriory respectively, 2XS expanded therein but blew the top off with a big sound & contemporary hard rock vibe.

Here, the guitars were loud & proud, sprinkeled in was the diversity. Undoubtedly, tracks such as "Boys in the Band", "Gatecrash", "Back to the Trenches" & "Take the Rap" are heavy hitters & could have fit onto any of their 70's albums, while others like "Love leads to Madness", "Games", & "Dream On" were aimed for increasing commercial appeal. Still, quirky numbers such as "You Love Another" & "Preservation" add charm to the album, while among the best album tracks "Lonely in the Night" is a direct sign of the times, perfectly mixing the dreaded New Wave with Rock & Roll. Overall, one of the bands better albums of the 80's & definitely a highlight to their increasingly massive cannon.

"Love Leads to Madness" is my favorite tune on this one. Some good recaps Remastered Reason. Not many NAZ reviews these days.

Very good album and according to some one of the band's best ones...it contains the hit single "Dream On" that is a nice softie but also "Love Leads To Madness"(my personal fave),"Games"(another softie,a solid one),"Back To The Trenches" & "Preservation"...all these tracks are remarkable by all means...recommended...85/100

The first Nazareth lp I ever owned was "Hair of the Dog" and this was the second. While these albums are worlds apart stylistically, this is still a great album. Games is my facorite off side one and side 2 is awesome. IMHO the last great Nazareth album. Others that followed were good but not great.

I made a comment back in 2011, for me Nazareth is a such a '70's band and when the '80's rolled out and beyond, they became a bit dated IMO. They do have some cool songs though.
