This album resurrected Alice Cooper.

From: Desslar Date: July 18, 2002 at 14:54
Great, fun album. OK, it's pretty silly, and we didn't really need the ballads from Alice, but there's plenty of rocking here. Track 10 rocks non-stop! The Japanese version includes live versions of Cold Ethyl and The Ballad of Dwight Fry, both very good.

"Spark In The Dark" is my favorite in this one. Definatly influenced by Desmond Childs's production. Great to see Steven Tyler on back up vocals on "Only My Heart Talking"

One of the most important releases in Hard-Rock ever.Alice has not a great voice, but when you listen to the really good songs this album is filled with, you forget that point.

One of my top 10 albums...All songs touch different feelings in me. One of the best commercial hardrock albums ever...As I usually put it: Great bangin' album! (and not the kind of bangin' you do with your head...Know what I mean?) Everything's top notch here...

From: RR-Finland Date: August 28, 2003 at 4:12
Definitely best Alice album. I saw Cooper in concert last november in Helsinki(2002). When Poison came in the air, I went nuts!

First 3 songs are the best!! Great Hard Rock songs!! Catchy and full of energy!! Rest of the album is good also. He was on the top of his game with Poison. What a great song. Great CD and a must have for any fan of 80's Hard Rock/Glam.

From: robert Date: December 15, 2003 at 21:21
Otra Maravilla Bestial del 89'... IMPRESIONANTE!! Tema Poison inolvidable!! 7'5 sobre 10!!

From: Gar Date: December 23, 2003 at 22:58
Another great release. "Poison" was quite a big hit, but several of the other songs are just as good in my opinion. Desmond Child scores again!

From: Axelinger Date: December 24, 2003 at 13:39
IMHO, Desmond Child is a boil on the ass of decent music... Now, I hope Santa doesn't get pissed at me for saying something naughty so close to Christmas...

From: run2u Date: April 6, 2004 at 18:33

Classic stuff!Alice cooper at his best, his best album! Poison is my favourite track and the video was very cool. Hell is living without you is a great 'psychotic-like' ballad with bon jovi while house of fire features great teamwork from alice and joan jett. Ratings:9/10

From: Big Papa K Date: June 25, 2004 at 2:06
Alice goes from the heavy metal style to hair metal. This album reeks of a Desmond Child power play, but the songs are all pretty catchy and rocking. "Poison", "Bed Of Nails", and "Trash" are the top tracks. 7/10

From: Geoff Date: March 8, 2005 at 5:17
What do you say about this one? Desmond done good 'ere! 'Poison' is, as we all know, killer commercial hard rock- and also the best film clip ever recorded. What a pair of women... and on top of that, naked women! 'Spark in the Dark', 'House of Fire', and 'Why Trust You' are all great melodic hard rockers, 'Only My Heart Talkin' is a nice ballad, 'Bed of Nails' is another killer single, 'Hell is Living Without You' is an awesome ballad, and overall this is not as good as Kane Roberts, but close.

From: Aussie Dave Date: March 20, 2005 at 16:10
The last couple of albums didn't quite hit the mark with the attempt at hard rock/metal. But this one is a big bullseye! Every song on this album is a classic 80's hard rock track! Poison of course was the big hit that Alice back into the spotlight, but songs like Bed Of Nails, Spark In The Dark, Hell Is Living Without You and House Of Fire are all equally as good. With a huge amount of big name guests on this album like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Desmond Child, this was always going 2 b big! 10/10

From: Dave Stamos Date: May 2, 2005 at 5:22

From: scott Date: December 16, 2005 at 9:53
Alice attempts another big comebacki n the late 80's, and it worked for him and even produced a single (Poison) that charted. To be honest, I don't care as much about this CD as some of the discs from the late 70's and early 80's. This sounds more like some pop metal band with Alice doing vocals, which sometimes works (Poison, Trash) and sometimes doesn't (Bed of Nails). As for the comment above about Alice's voice, it's not about his singing ability, rather about his charisma and style.

From: metalmaniac777 Date: March 28, 2006 at 19:11
Alice goes hell-bent for hair-metal on this CD with the help of mega-producer Desmond Child, and the results are fantastic. The hooks are big enough to catch Moby Dick with, the choruses stick with you better than peanut butter & taffy sticks to the roof of your mouth, and the backing vox are gigantic enough to knock Goliath on his ass. Some folks trash this CD, claiming it neutered Cooper's classic style, but if this is ball-less music, consider me a fan of more castration in melodic hard rock.

From: metalhead4life Date: November 10, 2006 at 23:52
Well put metalmaniac777 - lmao; couldn't have said it better myself. This is one of the top CD's of 1989 and of hard/glam rock ever. This is what you want to hear for a hard rock/glam rock CD of the late 80's. If you don't own it, what are you waiting for? GO AND BUY IT!!

From: aorteto Date: November 13, 2006 at 12:23
POISON, SPARK IN THE DARK, HELL IS ..., HOUSE OF FIRE, BED OF NAILS and WHY TRUST YOU are great hair metal songs, really greats. The rest is good. A must.

From: Rycheage Date: July 27, 2007 at 20:45
Hair metal Alice. Desmond Child hit this with hooks a-plenty. "Poison", "House Of Fire", "Only My Heart Talking", and "Hell Is Living Without You" stand out. Alice doesn't have a great voice but it does the trick here.

From: VICE Date: October 14, 2007 at 13:53
A must have album! My recomendments: "Spark In The Dark", "Why Trust You", "Hell Is Living Without You", "House Of Fire", "Poison"... Well, the whole album is literally great! Really nice guitar work by John Curry & the guest guitarists too! A must buy!

From: ThunderDan Date: February 3, 2008 at 10:25
Great memories of listening to this on tape. Juat about all of the songs work well here. By far, one of Alice's best albums in terms of songs and commercial relevance. He needed a winner here, and hit a home run with it! Still stands well to this day, I'll never get tired of this one. A must-have!!

From: suspicious.heart Date: October 12, 2008 at 3:12
As has already been said, Alice's voice isn't great, but the music IS. This album was a grower for me - in my experience, those ones usually turn out to be the best. As I haven't heard any other albums by Alice, I don't have anything to compare it to, but this is a kickass record and I'd say a must have in any music fan's collection.

From: DNOMYTE Date: May 22, 2009 at 19:49
Not really the kind of music i want to hear from Alice Cooper, at least on Constrictor and RYFAY his personality was still there, for most of this album he is faceless, B- from me

From: MikeTuinstra Date: March 4, 2010 at 23:31
This album has a sexual theme and the songs are more commercial. A lyrical difference. But the Alice Cooper signature still reigns on this one to me. It's in the way he sings, the way he presents his story. His biggest hit Poison is classic Alice for it. It's Coop packed in Pop approach and sold to the masses: the best of both worlds resulting in simply awesome Melodic Rock. The slickness of the album combined with the heaviness of his 80's incarnation portrays Alice as the Godfather of Hard Rock music. The classic bad guy we all know and love upped his game here, and takes us to musical heights we hadn't seen before. His best, a Hard Rock classic to me.

From: rocksoul Date: June 12, 2010 at 6:33
I started to know alice cooper by this album and I love it. Then I went to back with raise yoyr fist and costrictor and I like also these two but trash is in my history

From: pie75 Date: July 12, 2010 at 9:58
wow man this is where alice started for me all great songs 1 of the best albums of '89 love the whole album still sounds great today every rock fan should have this album

From: edwithmj Date: February 25, 2011 at 19:35
Very commercial and very good because of it. Alice hired a load of great musicians and got Desmond Child to co-write all of the songs. My favourites are House of Fire, Poison and Only My Heart Talkin'.

From: JOVIAOR Date: July 14, 2011 at 16:11
Every real fan of melodic hardrock should have this one in their collection a true jewel and one of A.C finest moments!

From: andi Date: July 7, 2012 at 18:05
Best Alice Cooper Album ever and my "Teentime"....

From: rick kerch vzla Date: March 30, 2015 at 20:18
This is Alice's Glam/Hard Rock album per excellence!!!..."Poison","House Of Fire","Bed Of Nails" & "I'm Your Gun"( ) are the hit singles of it and the best cuts as well...tracks 4,7 & 8 are also good ones...enjoyable stuff...88/100

From: hair metal again Date: February 14, 2022 at 14:42
a def masterpiece for ALICE COOPER back in 89 offering an astonishing commercial hard rock album with the valuable help of Desmond Child and all of his famous musicians! No need to say much you all know the many big hits and almost every tune hits the post as Trash did when it got on top of everything else back in the day!classic
