this was a pittsburgh based band from the 80's that was simply awesome, i met them a few times at record signings and shows. i have this album and two other albums and that's it. nothing has ever been released on cd. i've looked everywhere. hopefully somebody will pick up the rights and release it. to me it's a gem and a time machine, for when music was done the right way.

This was without a doubt the best band to ever come out of Pittsburgh. I saw them play many times and absolutely loved them. I later became friends with the guys and found them to be as wonderful as their music. It is ashame things did not work out for the band. I truly miss seeing them in concert.

seen them on their 'leaving for LA last show' at California University of PA. excellent. got in a battle for half the guitar darren smashed, also got to recorded at his studio in the 90's( homebound).

This Is another one of the greatest metal albums of the 80's, If you liked 'Q5-Steel The Light' you will love this. I believe it was only available in record and cassette format, I still have the cassette and on the left side it shows '1985 IRD RECORDS' on the right 'important Record Distributors, Inc. (718-995-3200) yes that is a phone #. Maybe if enough of us make noise they will finally give it to us on CD!!!!!!!

you may think this a pittsburgh band but---this band was actually formed in columbus ohio in 1981. The original line up was Randy amos vocals, Brett Bodine- guitar, Darrin Lazzari-guitar, Bruce Tarney-drums and Kevin Bell on bass. They played clubs throughout central Ohio and occasionally opened for national acts. There home club was the Alrosa Villa. Combat offered Axtion a press and release deal--most of the band wanted to wait for a better deal-- The band broke up and Darren returned to Bell

Hey Axtion Rules, Darren Does all the sound for my band Empire he also recorded our album. Dareen did play with Ozzy. Only a short while though. It was down to him and Zakk Wylde. But Zakk got the gig. Darren is alive and doin fine. Back in Bell Vernon PA. His studio is killer Check it out sometime Rock House Studios. He also does killer live sound.

There's some choice moments, 'Road Runnin', 'Precious Rock', 'Your Numbers Up' and 'Shoot For The Stars' contain an abundance of foot stomping riffs, while maintaining high energy speeds. For the most part Axtion stick to the basic hard rock formula created by Montrose in 1973, with piledriving riffs heard a million times. Typically there's a non-stop supply of shredding solo's, as Welton and Lazzari try to convince everyone in ear-shot that they are the next Eddie Van Halen.

I actually knew all the guys from Axtion. I lived in an apartment in North Hollywood when they went out to L.A. We hung out together. Darren was a very genuine person and was so into his craft. I have some impromptu recordings on cassette of them playing in their apartment. Darren didn't party quite as hard as the rest of the guys, but he was a blast to be around. Was listening to metal shop one night and started to record a song, I left, and forgot to stop recording. They played this song "Stand Up" by a band called action. My friends and I thought it was great but could never find an album. I found a live EP in 87 but the record got wrecked. Been trying for the last 7 years since being online to find some trace of these guys. But ive been spelling the name wrong. Somehow I remembered Lazzaris name and here I am. & thx to eBay the tape is on the way :-)

Axtion really rocks on this album. This is more Hard Rock/Metal than Glam. Killer guitar playing from Darren and Michael with plenty of early Eddie Van Halen soloing. Fave songs are Road Runnin,Precious Rock, Look Out for the Night, Shoot for the Stars. I hope someone puts this gem on CD or even issue a double cd to include rare and live tracks. A must for your collection. Rated 8/10.

If you like mid 80's hard rock / metal like Malice and the like, this might just be your thing. I like the old school riffs and the early metallic feel, but I must admit I don't really connect with any of the songs. 'Road runnin' is a cool hard rocker and 'Hold me tight' is a decent ballad, but overall not essential as far as I'm concerned. Solid metal.

Hello Axtion fans! Just got off the phone with Darren Lazzeri. Great news!!!! There is an indie lable called Retrospect Records that is finally going to put this and a full length concert out on cd. Thats right, cd!!! It will be another 2 weeks to a month until they are ready. They are being printed as we speak. It is now March,8th,2006. I will e-mail back when I have a dotcom for purchase. These will be limited to a pressing of 1000 pieces for the first run. So get yours quick.

I also have listened to Darren's two solo discs. They are without a doubt some of the best AOR/Hard Rock discs I have heard in a very long time. They are a mix of equal elements of early Gotthard, early Bonfire, Jaded Heart, and Harem Scarem with amazing guitar work. Darren shreds with the best plain and simple. With the right promotion these discs WILL be the next big thing. A must have if you like the stuff on this site. Really killer stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY!!!It took a while due to some production delays, but this sucker is ready to go! Now go get em' at Retospectrecords.com. Remember there are only 1000 copies of this much sought after gem, so get yours quick. The graphics and mastering for the Axtion Full length live disc are done and should follow in 2 to 3 weeks. Baring any production delays. After that come the two solo discs (killer stuff...even better than Axtion I think). There's even a posibility of a live dvd with bonus videos.

I just got my copy the other day and it's pretty good. Maybe the best re-release I have heard so far this year. The vocals are a little rough at times, but the music is great. They had a lot of potential, I wish they would have done more albums.

Just found this site, I am amazed by the comments ,I was a huge Axtion fan in the early 80s, but the history of this band is inacurate, Axtion was formed just south of Columbus Ohio in a small town by the name of Ashville. The band was formed by a guy named John Pettibone a very heavy heavy guitar player and songwriter,The original line up was Pettibone guitar. Randy Amos vocals. Jeff Beach Guitar.Kevin Bell bass. Bruce Tarney Drums. I saw these guys probably 30times or more around the Columbus

Scene. Beach was replaced by Lazzeri and this line up was by far the best Axtion line up. I saw them perform after look out for the night was released with the new line up and they were very good but had lost that raw attack that they seemmed to have with the Pettibone Lazzeri line up. Pettibone and Lazzeri were very different style players but the friction gave them a great on stage presence, all the guys were very good looking and captured the 80s at its very best. broke up I know that they ruled the Live music scene in Columbus during there run 83to84 and all there Columbus fans missed them after the original band broke up. I saw Pettibone and Amos perform in the early 90s at a High Street Club in Columbus doing all original material it was high energy in your face metal with great vocals. There was a cd floating around Columbus for years that had Axtion demoes with Lazzeri and Pettibone tunes with Amos on vocals. I really wish these guys could have kept

The pure energy from Pettibone and Lazzeri was a grat thing to wittness it was non stop, they played tunes that showed up on lookout for the night and some really heavy stuff that I think Pettibone and Amos wrote. Hello Axtion fans. It has been a while, so here's an update. Unfortunately, due to Darren relocating to Texas, the Axtion Live cd/dvd combo is on permanent hiatus. So are the two solo discs ("Trouble Dogs The Wicked" & "Divine Intervention"). It's a shame. It is amazing stuff!!! Hopefully something will change in the future and these killer discs will still see the light of day. For now, it doesn't look good. I will keep you posted.

As for a reunion tour Metalbabe, I would not hold my breath if I were you. Darren and the rest of the band have not spoken in years. Most of them are married now with children and steady day jobs. Plus, Darren himself has lost his desire to play live almost completely these days. With him writing and owning the song copyrights, that kinda kills it right there. I agree it would be awsome! Keep hope alive, it never hurts to dream.

Maybe the positive response will help get things back on track sooner. Darren is at a crossroad in his life, unsure of which way to go. The possitive feedback might help him with his choice. Because if you saw the band 30 times, I would know you because I was at every Axtion gig before they changed the line up from Amos,Lazzari,Bell, Tarney, Bodine (Pettibones replacement, a friend of Tarneys). Brett Bodine (Tarney's friend) and the Axtion/columbus connection went on for another year at most. After that Tarney and Bell were out and no replacements were found. Randy and Darren went back to P.A. and with friends of Darrens recorded the album. Stuff ever, but this is private stuff Darren would like to keep private. Just like the demos you have. If you transfer a copy to disc, please keep them for yourself. Sam at Retrospect is very protective of his artists and checks the net for illegal sales of Axtion material constantly and would be on you so quick it would make your head spin. So be careful. As for Randy Amos and the rest of the band I don't know where to find them and Darren has lost touch with them all. Hope this helps.

It's over! At least for me it is. Darren's attitude towards the live disc and the two solo projects is one that I can no longer understand or agree with. I went out on a personal and financial limb for these projects only to get burned in the end. You can bend over backwards a million times, but the one time you don't, it's amazing how fast things change. I am sending all the master tapes and data discs back to Darren. Where it goes from here I do not know.

Darren wants all his fans to know that the CD is still available at RetrospectRecords. If you are a fan, and want to help him out, don't download illegal copies of the CD. I plan on highlighting some of Darren's songs on YouTube, and may include a short segment of him playing his solo live! There IS a possibility of Darren releasing some of his solo work, but there has to be a big demand for Axtion albums for the company to release more albums. Support Darren by buying his album, and we may still see more of his music!

And it's true that Darren did jam with Ozzy's band, and did play a solo for Ozzy when trying out for the band. He was one of the finalists to replace Jake E. Lee, but Zakk Wylde ended up getting the final vote.

This is really a good one.Catchy heavy rock with some glam elements sometimes.They sound identical to Vanadium 80's era and the singer seams also Pino Scotto(but better ahahaha).A couple of fillers,the rest is pretty good.8/10

I Knew of a Guy his name was Joe that was a metal singer at this time that was friends of these guys, was a great vocalist by the way and was in a band with Bob Fredricks a hot guitar player from Columbus, was supposed to been next big hot band but never happened because of personal problems from both fredricks and i think this joes last name was Smith and they just dissapeared, rumor was that a couple of tapes that were floating around was of Joe Smith and Fredericks on a couple of tracks with these guys. Smith was from the ashville area along with pettibone so i know there was a connection. Smith stood out had real long beautiful hair and built really well yummyyyyyy.

Metalqueen-there was nobody named Joe Smith or Fredericks associated with this band personally or musically. Any tapes existing at the time Axtion left Columbus would have had only Darren or Brett Bodine playing guitars on them. I have a live bootleg of Axtion on tape. It is a cover of a Scorpions song "Another piece of meat" recorded at Screamin' Willies in Columbus. This is the original lineup when the band was still called "Scratch"

Brutust you must be getting forgetful, i have the live recording of another piece of meat, it was pettibone on the guitar. darren never preformed with the band as scratch. I also know who joe smith was he jammed on stage with pettibone a few times after pettibone left axtion. I also watched pettibone with a guy named marty hayes last october open for boston. they played mostly original stuff that was very heavy and loaded with double harmoney lead stuff very much like thin lizzy iron maiden I think there are a few videos on u tube. Hayes and Pettibone were masterful with the double harmoney stuff. I know Hayes won the ohio guitar playoffs sponsered by The guitar center and went to the rock and roll fantasy camp with Paul Stanley.Pettibone and Hayes play 3 or 4 times a year usually opening for a 80s band that is doing clubs. I think he has some kind of deal with miller coors beer. and by the way I think your name is mark?

we all have our likes and dislikes but the original line up of Pettibone Amos Bell Tarney and Lazzari were the real deal. I think everyone forgets how young these guys were when they were playing the Ohio club scene. Pettibone was still in High School when he put the band togather. I always thought that if they would have been a little more mature and had good management that they would have been one of the biggest acts to come out of the 80s, to bad I hate that they didnt make it to a better level than they did. As I commented above I have seen Pettibone a few times over the past couple of years and his playing is really fantastic I would love to see him and Darren on stage togather. long live 80s rock!

80's--Darren was definately in Scratch--But you may be right-that live screamin willies tape is probably darren and john--I'll have to look at some old pics to be sure--that screamin' willies beer may have gotten to me!
