When I purchased the first album, I was sceptical about a band I had no knowledge about, but was floored by how good and pure the music was. So when this album was released, I had it the same day and it still ranks as one of my favorite albums of all genres and styles. The music is pure and edgy. The lyrics are honest and thought provoking. No holds barred it seems. I believe they are (or were since I have heard nothing since the third album by Doug) the best I had heard. We need more like this.

This band plays an ok style of AOR but their songs lack feeling and energy . . The flow from one song to the next is kinda boring and the only song that did seem to have some life to it was "High & Dry"

i like this album, but it's kinda strange....picture michael jackson doing vocals for van halen (especially on the song 'too much sadness'). yeah, it's a bit odd. overall i like it quite a bit though. i think part of the reason i like it so much is because it has a lot of sentimental value to me (it was one of the first christian albums that i got after i got saved), so it brings back a lot of good memories. give it a try, you might just find that you like it too!

This album ranks as my all time favorite. I have great albums from Petra, D&K, Stryper, Daniel Band, Michael W Smith and so on, but this one ranks #1. Why? Because as one other said, its honest music. The sound is raw, and the lyrics cutting. Where you go and Against the grain prove to be the ultimate challenge. Their first album ranks well up on my personal chart as well. These albums are well worth the listen for the true christian

The above post says it all: "well worth the listen for the true christian." Unfortunately for us non-christians there's not really any way of getting around the awful lyrics featured on this CD. It's a shame as the music is okay, but I couldn't stand the religious aspect.

Oh boy, why should you be a christian to appreciate the music ? ! I'm a christian and I'm very proud of it ! So why shouldn't you listen to this as long as the music is good, and that's the case here !, christian or not !

Freaky,I was waitin'a your comment like this one:you're right 100.000 times and more...Crossection one of the best westcoast/aor bands ever heard,simply amazing songs with true emotions and great musicians.It's difficult to find their best cd,both are awesome,I'd listen to these bands forever...10/10.

a 10/10?? no way. this (and also the "breaking ground") are ok cds, nothing more. songs could have been a bit more catchy and remarkable. worth buying but not ofthe same quality like other christian melodic rock cds (mastedon/idle cure). 7,5/10

AOR Freaky, if you are a christian that is fine with me, but as I can respect that point of view, try and see it my way. For me a lot of what I really dislike about all religion is the way those involved try to get their message across. A lot of us just don't care or want to hear about it, and if there are 10 songs with a religious subject some might ignore it and enjoy the music, others (like me) take note of the lyrics, get annoyed and search elsewhere for good music with more enjoyable lyrics

I don't outrightly ignore any band purely because of lyrics. There are a few christian bands I like, but to me the music here didn't outweigh the lyrics. And why would I think any different about a band praising the devil? It all annoys me. I have never been able to understand why someone would bother to worship anyone. I'll just enjoy my life and not spend a moment dedicating my life to what may or may not be- good or bad. Just my thoughts mate. Music is meant to be harmless fun, not preaching.

Imposible!!! No lo consigo en ningun lado, tengo el BEFORE THE DAWN del 86' y lo encuentro un disco bueno pero no genial... Este tiene q ser mejor pues es del Genial 1990 año fronterizo del Mejor d la historia para un servidor: 1989!!! SUPER AÑO!! ¿Alguien me lo recomienda? a ser posible en español, pues para mi inmensa desgracia no se nada d ingles... como me gustaria entender todos los comentarios d la peña q escribe aki... pero.. nadie es perfecto )

That’s incredibile there isn t Arlen Salte,one of the finest christian aor bands ever heard…if you like pure melodies,awesome musicianship around fresh refrains this is a must!

Banda Canadiense y Cristiana d A.O.R. mezcla BOULEVARD y HONEYMOON SUITE, y con algunos tokes d ALIAS Y SHERIFF… Una especie d hibrido, pero q por supuesto jamas yegan a alcanzar la calidad d estos.. 20/20 seria el Grupo kizas q haya escuxado mas similar en cuanto a sonido…(Tb Cristianos y solo 2 discos y Adios!!!) RIVER’S EDGE – es un Gran Comienzo… muy comercial, melodico y d puro A.O.R. Un tema q enganxa, e ideal para comenzar un disco asi. Buenisima! TOUCH THE SKY – no esta mal, pero se ale

TOUCH THE SKY – no esta mal, pero se aleja un poco del sonido A.O.R. FORK IN THE ROAD – Baladon, q empieza con un Majestuoso piano, bien cantada… WHERE YOU GO – es otro gran tema sin duda. HIGH N’ DRY – La voz me recuerda a JIMMY HARNEN y sus Synch… y el tema por supuesto q tb. TEARS FOR THE TAKING – Mi Gran Favorita, Q Teclas, q Lujo, Impresionante, solo por este tema vale la pena esta rareza!! Es un medio tiempo comercial muy Bueno, el tema estreya del disco sin duda y el mas A.O.R.!!! I’M MIS

Yap Very Good AOR/MR album, el Gran ROBERT lo dijo todo asi que no hay mucho que agregar, cortes segun gusto personal Against the Grain(My fav el estilacho que se meten aca es extraordinario MR/AOR tremendo), Tears for the Taking, I'm Missing You, Where You Go, River's Edge, Too Much Sadness 8.5/10.

Sensational!!! I'd give it 85 without "I'm missing you" but with this song it scores 100 of 100! It's been long since I heard such a beautiful etheric song!!It is worth any money! Canadian bands are simply the best at AOR they got it in genes!

No diría sensacional pero si que gusta mucho. AOR que no defrauda y es que hay temazos como "Tears for the Taking" AOR de primera, la inicial "River's Edge", la suave pero bonita "I'm Missing You" o ese excelente final con "Against the Grain". Como dice purrfect-kat La que mas vida da al album es "High and Dry" y con buenos coros que es lo primordial. 8.4/10

Music is great, lyrics are too christian for me. It's sad that there are so many good bands out there that waste their talent with that preaching stuff. I'm a christian but I don't need to hear about Christ when I listen to music. Too bad.

Very pleasant album with catchy songs,beautiful and realistic lyrics (very common in Christian bands)good vocalist and top notch musicianship!..for me this act sounds like Reo Speedwagon at times especially in track # 4 "Touch The Sky" with a very nice piano sounded keyboards...then another outstanding tracks are "River's Edge" excellent and catchy,"Give It A Rest" is pretty cool,"Fork In The Road" lovely one,"Where You Go" another catchy number,"High & Dry" is a highlight,"I'm Missing You" is such a nice song and "Against The Grain" is excellent!...94/100 ..in general lines all the tracks have something special..just buy!

Got this recently as it was featured by a poster in the HH Forum "Christian Hard Song of the Day" topic. So, my impressions are this is an AOR release similar to the sound of a band like Southern Sons. There are a few real stadout tracks: High and Dry and the closer Against the Grain, a particularly strong track to finish an album. If there is a downside, it's that the vocals can sound weak on a few tracks. I think the singer isn't strong but he does what he can with what he has got. A good effort and one I will keep. Rated B.
