This is some of the best metal music out there--once you get "Nursery Crymes" or "Prelude to War" in your head, they won't go away; and "Broken Hearts, Broken Roads" is a truly haunting ballad. I never saw them in person, but I have two home movies of Misty Rox, and their live performances--no matter the singer--are amazing. John's drum playing is top-notch, and the guitar work--Ron is truly one of the best, and a talented writer as well. If you can, grab this CD--it is well worth it.

Cheesy production, it sounds like it was made on a 4 track recorder in somebody's basement. Vocals and guitar solos are off key. Good fun band though, fun to watch and party with, but that's about it. If they had spent more money on it this recording would have been much better. Not pro quality sounding at all.

Nursery Crymes was never put out on CD, it was on tape only and might have sold 200 copies. Rox never made big headlines or played in big places, only worked with bigger band Grimm Jack a few times and had some good connections. Rox shouldn't really be on this site with other big name acts because Rox never was much more than a bar band. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying. I know because I was there.

Good bar band that played good covers and had some decent originals. "Crymes" sounds very low budget and Wayne's voice was off key. Nice guys who had a good amount of talent but never when anywhere with it. Was it released on CD? Nowak bros. have band now called "Old Buddy Jack." Was it Mike Duffy who posted above? If so, heya Duffster!

Great party type band who played good songs. Buff and John Nowak gave the band guts. Record sounds like it was made for fifty bucks but has some cool songs on it. Not the best band to ever come out of Ohio Valley area but always put on a good show.

Rox was an entertaining live band. Good songs and talent, even though "Crymes" lacks in production it's still worth a listen. Rox went thru several lineups and each version was enjoyable. Good band and good guys, and should be remembered for the good times they gave the people who saw them. And no, it was never released on CD. maddogaaron@hotmail.com

'Nursery Crimes" has crappy production. Lead guitar is way off key on several solos, and vocals are overpowering and drown out music on some songs. Sounds like this one was mixed in the men's room at Kmart by a janitor. Good band and great guys. Saw them live a lot and it was always a good time. Great live act but their studio work was disappointing. Sorry guys, I liked you a lot, but I have to be honest here. "Crymes" sounded really cheap.

I bought this tape and listened to it until it wouldn't play no more. I think it sounds pretty good for a band that never did much, and I loved seeing them live. Good memories of them at Rosa Lees and Swing Club opening for Grimm Jack. Buff and John were too cool. Best song on this one is "Broken"

Misty's NC was not the best sounding. But they put on a hell of a show. The out of tune guitar is one reason Mike was replaced (just fact). We played with them a couple times, when Tim Dofka joined for the last two years they rocked and Kevin (?) they sounded their best. Sorry Mike missed the real good times, is that live picture with Jim Dofka playing? I rememember him doing that, where was that? Wow so cool! They have a place in H/Metal history just as the rest of us do.Thanks MR, metal rules!

Decent band with decent songs. Nothing really memorable about 'Nursery Crimes." It's average music with under average production. Buff and John Nowak moved on to better things. They were the real talent in this band with no doubts. Never understood why such a great band like Grimm Jack helped out these guys when there was better bands around. Must be because the guys in Misty were so cool. Nice guys with no egos who were the first to admit it if they did a bad gig. Nowaks kept Misty alive.

Buff and John made this band worth seeing. The other guys were good, but the Nowak boys gave the band balls. They had good songs and a pretty good tape, even tho it sounds kind of cheap. I always had fun seeing them live. I liked their style of music better than heavier bands around and would go see them again if they do a reunion. Thanks Aaron for info about this site.

Saw Rox open for Grimm Jack in Wheeling,WV 12/90. They were an enjoyable warm up act and put on a good show. I was disappointed with their studio work, and in my opinion "Nusery Crymes" sounds like a cheap demo. It should never have been released until it was improved. Rox was a really good live act though--high score on the live performance. Check out my Grimm Jack site at: www.geocities.com/bloozerocker/GrimmJack.htm

Saw this band in Parkerburgh, WV with Tim singing. He sucked bad. It sounded like an alligator had a hold of his nuts. Kaluger looked like he belonged in Molly Hatchet, and posers Buff and John should have been in Poison. Duffy was a preppie with long hair. The band got better later on, but Nusery Crimes was a waste. Saw them with Kevin later and they were much better. Still only average.

Nice bunch of guys but this recording was not the best they could have done. Don't really see why they are on this site because this space is for PRO bands who did something in the business. Misty was good but was just a local band who played out of area sometimes. Kaluger and Wayne always exaggerated and made Misty seem bigger than they ever were but we know the truth. They didn't do any big tours or sell many tapes. There big "record contract" was a sham because the company they "signed"

there "deal" with was just a little company that booked bands and thats all. Misty really was good sometimes and had there moments. Whoever sent this info to the website here is obviously trying to make Misty into more than it ever was. Face reality and go on with life-your band was good and it's over with now. You were never in the class with other bands on this site. Start your own site if you want to 'impress" people with your past. I bet the Nowaks wouldn't have wanted Misty here.

Besides Jim Dofka would not have played a show or two with them if they sucked. Once they added Tim Dofka they whole band changed. This site is to say good or bad true, but any band that staps on a guitar and played as long as they did and recorded and sold is ok to be here. From Mikes post, he still sounds mad. Thanks guys!

I did not LOVE MISTY but they were not as bad as some here would want to say. They filled the bars when they played. And Grimm saw something in Misty. Other bands in the area were worse, anybody ever see DB Rocker? Need I say more. I never liked a few bands around there but I would not go to a site they are on and downgrade them in front of the world. WHO needs to get a life?

Doug, perhaps you should spend time reading what I posted instead of running your mouth off first. I never said anything about info being WRONG, I did say whoever submitted the info was trying to make this band more than they were. As for getting a life, I never said that either. My comment was that whoever is trying to IMPRESS people with fake info like what was posted on this site's Grimm Jack pages about Ron winning some "rythym player of the year award" and such needs to GO ON WITH LIFE.

From: Still Phil |

As for the info posted on the GJ pages it almost seemed like somebody felt Mad Dog Malone insulted Ron and had to make up some crap about him to let people think he was something more than he was. Maybe Ron posted it himself-who knows. If a GJ member had posted that he would have left his name. Somebody's going to a lot of effort to make Misty seem bigger than they ever were with that fake info about Ron and now by putting them on there own pages. Be careful-it's easy to verify truth.

Anyway...sure, the recording quality might not be perfect, but the undeniable talents of Ron, John, Buff, and Wayne shines through anyway. It doesn't take away from their expertise as musicians at all. I still say that once you get these songs in your head, they don't go away. And yes--the last line-up of Ron, Kevin, Tim, John, and Buff was the best. I say they should do a reunion show!

Ok folks, everyone needs to settle down a bit. This page is active again, but the rankings have been set back to 1 vote. Ballot-stuffing is a no-no. As for Phil's comments about pro vs. non-pro, I'm afraid he's slightly incorrect: there are any number of minor-label, independent, or self-produced efforts on the site. And as long as the genres are apt, they are all welcome. Every band was small at one point, not everyone has a budget, and talent is in the ear of the beholder. Carry on...

I think these music sites are funny. The guitar player for old buddy jack(jason)turned me on to them. This is better than the soaps.By the way I don`t want anyone to link the guitar work on this tape to my playing.I came in after the recording and only played the few live shows that they had left. The lead guitar work on this tape belongs to Mike Duffy. Also Ron is a exellent rhythem player he made the band sound full at the shows.Hi Ron Good by,Tim Dofka

But I wanted to get a sample out there for now. Thanks everyone, hope to see you if we do a one night show.

Ron K is the best guitar player from the valley ever. He rules and both Dofkas suck compared to him. Ron is IT and you all should know it. He WAS Misty Rox and that band was nothing without him....He had chances of making it big but the other losers held him back. He could have been the next guitar god but picked family instead. Ron is THE MAN. Wake up and see it,,,,hear it,, know it,,,,it is fact!!!!!!!! All guitar players in the valley were jealous of his yellow ESP and wanted it. Ron Rules!

Ron was good yes but he wasn't a guitar god. I have also heard the other members of M/R held him back and that he had chances to join bigger bands like Grim Jack and Shok Paris but stayed with M/R because it was HIS band. He was well liked and respected by many big time music people and even James Hetfield thought Ron was a killer ryth/player when he heard the N/C tape. Take notice of Ron because he was a REAL musician.

Ok, all is done now. I AM NOT A GUITAR GOD nor have I EVER CLAIMED TO BE. Playing with Tim D when he joined the band & Jim D when he did a show with us in Huntington, was the best times I ever had on stage. Buff and John are two of the valley's best. Wayne was, well let's just say you had to know Wayne like we did. Kevin was the best singer we had as far as talent and I have not talked to him in years, I hope he is still doing fine. If you would like to see a M/R one time show, tell John & Buff.

Derek, please stop this, here and on the OBJ page. Lisa, I too am sorry you feel this way, but hey that's what makes us different. Brad, I don't know where you got your info, yes I started MR but it was just as much everybodys band as mine, we did things by votes. And I had the chance to go try out for Nazareth through John Iss' once but did not go. As far as Hetfeild, I have no idea where you got that from, but I must say it did make me smile, thanks be nice if it did happen though. Goodday

Ron man how come you say this stuff is not true when you told so many people years ago you went to NY when Grim Jack was making a new tape and played on it and they wanted you to join the band,,,? You told a bunch of us that they wanted you in the band and you guys were going to tour big places with Kiss or somebody. You said you got an offer to join Shok Paris too but didn't take it.

From: Doug |

yeah M/R almost made the bigtimes and Ron had a chance to do lot's of things but stayed in the valley with his band and family. I heard that Hetfield heard there tape to and liked it a lot and I remember about Ron getting a chance to join Shok Paris to. Ron was cool and people who say Buff and John were the best in the band are not right at all.
|
From: Brad |
Date: May 10, 2001 at 16:10 |
Doug you are right about all that stuff and Ron and Wayne told us about the Hetfield thing after there tape came out. They got some connection through Grim Jack and did it that way. Buff and John were always jealous of Ron because he knew the right people in music and Tim Dofka was jealous too. Ron taught so many people to play guitar and they remember how cool it was to have a teacher like Ron because he can play anything and knows all there is to know about music and the music business.

Derek, I will say that if you say I said that, then maybe I did, I do know Wayne did a lot of tall talking about things, but that was just wayne. As far as anobody being jealous, I knew nothing of that. If anything, I was the one that felt that way. I would have given anything to be able to play solos like Tim & Jim. Or have the look Buff & John did. I took the music very serious. I loved to teach guitar when I did. I loved the music business and everything about it. I played a few solos, and

and spent most of my time, trying to be the best heavy metal rhythm guitar player I could be. As far as I know, Tim and Jim both never had a problem when we played. Nobody in that area wanted to play that, everybody wanted to be Jim. I knew I could not play that way, so I put my skills in the other. I think I did a good job, put together some great music and the Black Sabb' song we did, 11 mins long, was fun to arrange. It was fun and I hope to do it again with these guys just one more time.

So please, understand, I LOVED playing music with those guys. I am putting out a CD of us Live from '92 with Buff, John, Tim D, Kevin and myself. I put one song on napster, but I can't get it to share all my song files, only picks certin ones at any given time. Put me on your napster hotlist 'Gunner2283' and with luck you may be able to get it from there. Again, people, please understand, this site is not MR, OBJ or GJ's treat it right. Having a chance to play with them is the same as trying out because you have to play WITH them to TRY out. Think about it Ron,,,I still don't buy it any way. That John Iss or Ass or whoever was a jerk anyhow and couldnt hook you up with a try out for bag boy at Krogers. Shok Paris neither-you may have seen them but thats it. Grimm Jack felt sorry for Misty Rox and thats the only reason you guys opened for them so much. If you really had a chance with Nazareth prove it-otherwise stop blowing.

Well for one thing I went to school and learned a a job and I'm good at it. I don't have to make up stories about having chances to pay with big name bands or tell people I have done more than I really have. I was there when somebody asked Buff about a Misty Rox reunion and he said he didn't want any part of it but Ron posted a note on the Grim Jack page saying Buff wanted to get the band back together. Marilyn, No M/R is not still on a record label. This is something that I will fund out of my own pocket. The cd's will sell for only the cost to make them, no profit at all. It is just a way to say, "thanks everyone for the years we spent with you, and it was a blast". No we are not still playing, although I have had contact with a few members and a reunion show can happen, just will be a little while as all of us have things going on right now. I checked the url listed above but all there is at that page is some pictures and no contact address or anything. I got a cd by a band called FASTBRAKE on the same X2000 label as Misty Rox and it is good. Sounds like Extreme. Is there another url for Misty Rox?

I checked this site a couple months ago I didnt know this band had a big following but it look like they did. I always liked the tape and a cd of it would be cool to have. Lot's of people have said bad stuff here but I think they was a good band. Will this live cd have original stuff on it that was never put out?

Hey it's good to see this board is still active and people are leaving messages. Doesn't look like anybody from the band but Ron checks this site and answers questions or replies to memos people leave. Rox was a good band and I would like to have Crymes on CD.

Misty Rox WAS a great band in their day. However, that was 11 years ago. Quit living in the past and move on with your life! There's nothing sadder than middle aged men trying to be rock stars.

Whoever is afraid to POST their name when they post this UNTRUE crap, needs to get a life. No name no credit in what they say. Ron says to you all that he has e-mails, I have e-mailed him before to make sure if it was true. He forwarded me one from the drummer John, who SAID he would do a one time show. I asked if all of the people here have e-mailed his M/R mail and he said only a few and NOT the trouble makers. SHows me they know they are wrong and he can prove it.

I love Misty Rox. They are cool. Those guys had more talent than Guns N Roses and all the other bands in the valley have been jealous of the talent M/R had for years. No other guitar player can compare to Ron and John is the best drummer in the world. Only losers would put down M/R

I didn't and won't post my name because I'm a close personal friend to One of Misty Rox. The reunion would be impossible do to everyone living in different parts of Ohio. Why would they want to embarrass themselves doing a reunion now? They could never top what they were, which was excellent. It would be sad. Let's remember them as they were and get on with it.

I saw Rons band in Dayton at a outdoor show with some other bands I think in July. Their name is "Cruser" and that they did. They did do one Misty song, "P' to war" and they redid it so it is so much more heavy than the Misty recording. They are not out to get signed, just a show now and then, that is all. I talked to him about this site.
|
From: Derek |

No this is NOT a made up name BTW. and with Ron posting these letters from John, discredits about 50% of the crap from the other posters on here. I never read anywhere that he/they want to get together to STAY a band, just "1" show and for the people that liked them. That is all, so Phil you need to grow up. One show is NOT trying to be rock stars again, damn son, read!

Sorry I am not / do not. I went to talk to him after the show about this site and all the stuff that is going on here. They did (all but Buff) agree to do "a" show. Don't know when they all have to get together on that, if it is later, Buff will do it. And I SAW the cover for the Live CD, the artwork for it. Ron is paying for that whole project alone, so it will take awhile. And "Crusher" sorry I forgot the H last time, was great. No long hair, just heavy music that is all, real heavy!
|
From: Kevin C |
Date: September 3, 2001 at 7:08 |
I should say that the entire band Crusher is in their mid 30's all with familys and jobs. They are not looking to do anything but play 4 or 5 shows a year that is it. They are just a bunch of guys from what I was told by them that met at the gym and lift together. They have a love for metal and todays music sucks. So they got together and just jam and have a blast. And they really do ROCK. No tape for sale no shirts, just pure heavy metal loud and fast. And very good! Even the Misty song kicked!

Some of us liked them, you must also but are afraid to admit it. The semi-acoustic ballad "Broken Hearts/Broken Roads" is my favorite track. "All the Kings Men" starts with a cool riff àla "Four Horsemen"(Metallica) 7.8/10
