Comparable to Tour de Force, IMO. Just another example of how screwed up our situation is in the US, this album kicks all sorts of melodic rock ass, was recorded and mixed in NY & NJ, USA, and yet you have to order it from Japan. *BASTARDS!* Everything about this disc smokes and it's for fans of huge, keyboard-backed, guitar-driven, in your face AOR.

From: Magnus Date: July 25, 2001 at 13:26
Sounds a bit like Van Halen,One of the best aor cd's from the 90's in my opinion.

From: koogles Date: January 1, 2002 at 16:42
Highly over-looked gem deserves a home in any comprehensive AOR/melodic collection. The Tour De Force comparison is dead-on.

From: Don Vino Date: January 17, 2002 at 16:37
I only knew 'I'll be there' from the Now and Then Sampler 'Dream in Colour' and its one of the best AOR-songs I ever heard in my life!!! A lone Melodic-Fan in Germany

From: WidoMakr Date: January 29, 2002 at 18:32
People...in a few words these guys are damn good....kinda a Joe Satriani feel to them....just a great sounding album...get it...quote the WidoMakr....never more

MASTERPIECE,MASTERPIECE,MASTERPIECE,MASTERPIECE,........

From: freddy de keyze Date: September 13, 2002 at 2:32
What a CD!!!!MASTERPIECE indeed. The kyeboards are stunnin, listen to the intro from Flyin' High, simply breathtaking and it will blow you away. No doubt! This is one of the best pomp/hardrock CD's EVER ! A real MUST !!!!!!!!!!! BUY it at any price. And mr. Rosenthal, please come back, we miss you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Sherlock Holmes Date: September 13, 2002 at 3:53
Did you notice each time that cool belgian guy praise an album - also note the reccurent use of words like masterpiece / must have / buy - then the number of votes for said album increases sky high and the rating always end around 9,70/10 !!! Strange, indeed, isn't it ?

From: purrfect-kat Date: September 13, 2002 at 4:44
Sherlock Holmes are You talkin bout Freddy fingers? . . . . If ya are then I best warn You not to get his dandruff up cuz he can talk up a storm when it comes to AOR . . . . his only problem is he thinks everything is Aor but don't tell him I said that cuz I don't need to hear his speech today.

From: freddy de keyze Date: September 23, 2002 at 7:50
Thanks guys (or girls ?) for the encouraging words. And please, don't tell me what AOR is and don't accuse me from anything. But, still good friends. At least I have the courage to use my real name and not a nickname ! Till then !!!!! And Red Dawn is a great album ! Period !!!

From: Firechicken Date: September 23, 2002 at 11:51
I am not sure if to believe these so many great things about Red Dawn. I and my buddies who also like movies, think Patrick Swayze was much better in 'Ghost' or even 'Roadhouse'. Friends, please watch this movie again before you comment, this does not hold a candle to 'Dirty Dancing'!

From: purrfect-kat Date: September 23, 2002 at 12:39
. . (Bops You on the head) . . . . He is not talking about the movie. . . . And just for the Record Roadhouse was better me thinks . . . Freddy You shouldn't make fun of some of us for using nicknames . . We know better then to argue with You about Aor. . . I think I know who Sherlock Holmes was . . . (Points) at ------------> Tim

RED DAWN siempre sera una de mis obras de arte favoritas...

From: CUBRIZ Date: March 20, 2003 at 2:13
This is one o' the best ever melodic rock / AOR albums u will ever hear !!! End o' story !!! Vocalist Larry Baud has a superb voice, while ALL the other members excel too.

From: Scandinavia Date: June 6, 2003 at 12:39
WOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!! This is good! Amazing!!! No words can describe it..The vocals are perfect for Hard rock, the band is top-professional...Can't find words...Just get this album if you can! 'Flyin High' is truly amazing along with 'Liar' but so is the rest of the album...If you like Larry's voice you should check out his former band: Network. It's much softer but the voice is the same...

From: freddy de keyze Date: June 6, 2003 at 19:48
Hi, Scandinavia, glad you're blown away by this monster of a record. This is indeed a MASTERPIECE, in every sense of the word. Of course it was once again overlooked by the media and most of the so called heavy fans. They don't know what they miss, the great voice from Larry and the pompous, brilliant keyboards from maestro David ! A new CD would be a great thing. Where are the labels ? (Frontiers, MTM, Escape etc. ) This is the real thing !

From: Ardian Date: June 7, 2003 at 15:29
Well-balanced elements of AOR, pomp, hard rock and commercial-era Rainbow mixed together into a masterpiece! This one is surely David Rosenthal's finest work, even better than the two Rainbow albums he was involved in. Larry Baud's vocals is a bit similar to Graham Bonnet, not JLT though. Great guitar work from Tristan Avakian too. Get it if you can.

From: John Date: July 31, 2003 at 11:14
Man do I love this style of vocals. A little dirty, a little gritty. Perfection for the songs. Get this record if you don't have it.

From: Knuckles. Date: October 6, 2003 at 17:06
Be all over this one like a buzzard on a gut wagon.Great release.

I've only heard of this band recently, but what a killer cd. This is fantastic music and powerful vocals with a perfect mix of keys. This cd kicks ass. Highly recommended!

A must. Buy it

From: TIM (2) Date: July 7, 2004 at 7:59
One of the top 10 in my (now HUGE) collection. A hint of Tour De Force in the delivery, but the style is very much House of Lords/Giuffria with a big sound, rasping vocals, and some totally OTT keyboard passages. This is probably better than the Giuffria albums, and edges 'Demon's Down' to be on a par with the H.O.L S/T for me. Not a duff track to be heard, even the bluesy 'I Can't Get Over You' is a masterpiece with a stunning keyboard outro. 10/10.

From: West Of Sunset Date: July 31, 2004 at 3:02
For me the best album of all time is 'Harem Scarem-Mood Swings', but this one remain for me a place near harem scarem 2nd album. The five firsts songs let me breathless the first time i´ve listened to this cd. This one ought to be a huge 10/10, simply perfect. here in Spain this cd is out of print, but available in specialized stores at the price of 15 Euros incredible when years ago this one were a hard to find cd. Here's another CD that I only own one song from and I absolutely love it. The title track 'Never Say Surrender' has a perfect musical build with great keyboard harmonies and a big hook filled catchy chorus. I can't wait to hear the rest of this one. It looks like with recent comparisons to TDF and Harem Scarem, this should be a solid release. I'm on my way to picking up a copy, so we'll see what I think when I give it a listen

From: AOR freaky Date: September 9, 2004 at 15:17
Kip : I think you'll like this one ! Especially opener 'Flyin' High! is very bombastic, great keys ! The next one 'I'll Be There' is a great ballad and I can go on for ages ! IMO: CLASSIC STUFF and a shame there was never a second album !

From: Geoff Date: September 9, 2004 at 20:17
Oh well, everyone else loves it so I may as well too I guess I do really like this disc, it just hasn't gripped me quite AS much as many others. Kip, I hope it's my copy you're waiting for or you have 2 coming your way! Either way, it is very, very well played melodic hard rock and I do like the disc a lot. Just not enough classic tunes to make it one of my faves. Excellent for what it is though, and I must play it again in these coming days...

From: Kip Date: September 10, 2004 at 2:32
Yes Geoff! You're my supplier!! lol. I'm just a melodic metal junky going thru withdrawl at the moment, shaking with anticipation at the thought of scoring some awesome tunes and surpressing my uncontrolable addiction by posting random thoughts on this great site. *takes a deep breath*.........*exhales* I feel like my birthday is coming soon but I'm not sure which day it will be.

From: Kip Date: September 25, 2004 at 23:25
Well... today it came! At this moment I'm cussing at the thought that I was outbid 3 times in the past on eBay trying to score this, because I have a feeling after listening to it all the way through just once, it's gonna easily place in my top 10. The first 3 tracks blew the hair off my chest and the next 4 tracks gave me goose bumps. The vocals are done on a high octane energy level that keeps my head bangin and fist pumpin throughout....

From: Kip Date: September 25, 2004 at 23:30
And when the ballad 'Take These Chains' comes booming through my speakers the emotion levels increase without losing any of that high energy. The guitar playing is exceptional, and a catchy riff or frill is squeezed into almost every bar and verse. The solos are breathtaking! Melodic Heaven is the best way to describe this one. Comparing these guys to TDF doesn't do them justice. The overall quality in all aspects blows TDF out of the water. TDF was never this consistant! 10/10! 100/100!

From: keeper Date: October 4, 2004 at 5:13
I also think this is a 10/10 CD. I bought it some weeks ago from eBay, and i think this is one of the most pleasant hearings in my collection. 'Liar' is definately my favorite song, with 'Flying High' and 'Promises' being my second best. The whole album though rocks!

From: Kip Date: October 8, 2004 at 9:00
Ok I've fully digested this album now and it's clearly my favorite of all time. No question in my mind now. If I were to rate the tracks they would all be 9/10 or 10/10's except She's On Fire, which is about a 7/10 song - still well above average. I'd rate my favorite tracks in this order: 3,8,1,2,7,6,5,10,4,9. Wow! This CD is amazing! There are just no words to describe how much I like it. Thank You Red Dawn for recording such a gem, and thank you Geoff for selling me a copy!

From: mit Date: November 2, 2004 at 5:03
Excellent!! Exceptional release by Mr.Rosenthal!! Wherever you find it , get it!

From: kelly Date: November 2, 2004 at 8:48
An absolute must for classic AOR! Masterpiece

From: gener8tr Date: November 26, 2004 at 2:07
If you're a fan of Larry Baud's vocals, do yourself a HUGE favor and track down a copy of NETWORK - CRASHIN' HOLLYWOOD. It was recorded in 1989, but was shelved for ten years before being released in limited quantities from AOR HEAVEN. It is the most 'summetime, good-feeling' CD I own.

From: paul Date: December 13, 2004 at 21:33
wow, Tristan, who played with Trans Siberian last year, where can this be purchased???? thanks---Paul

From: Nick C Date: January 2, 2005 at 5:38
Absolute classic album, Larry Baud has a superb growling voice and yet it can be smooth as silk when required. This album was given a release in the U.K. on Now & Then Records and what a coup it was for them! You must check this out if you like your AOR with a kick!

From: Prizmloft Date: February 9, 2005 at 2:44
It seems everything positive that could be said about this album has already been uttered on this page. But since I've got a second, let me tell you what the retailer who sold this to me said when I got it back in '94, and I quote...'Oh, it's huge'....hmmm, huge would seem as an understatement to me. Nigel Tufnel would truly be proud, this really does go to '11'!

From: AOR freaky Date: February 9, 2005 at 3:19
Oh boy, those memories ! WHAT A BRILLIANT RECORD THIS IS ! David is a keyboard wizard ! HUGE ! CLASSIC !

From: z4roxx Date: February 9, 2005 at 12:18
Indeed top 10 scandi aor releases, but IMO Network is a little better...

From: AOR freaky Date: February 9, 2005 at 13:17
Dear z4roxx, are you not wrong, mate ? ! This is not a scandi AOR/pomp release but pure american stuff ! And yeah, Network is great too, but this one is IMO the best of the two !

From: z4roxx Date: February 9, 2005 at 13:22
ahahaha sorry, they are both american!!I knew but sometimes I do these mistakes because some american band has a scandi style.I always associate Red Dawn with scandi bands,I don't know why!!ahahaha!!

From: oz rokkit Date: February 9, 2005 at 19:07
This better network, without a doubt!

From: z4roxx Date: February 10, 2005 at 12:33
If you hear'Liar'you can think to listen a Skagarack song!!The first 3 tracks are the top of ever,IMO.

From: Erik Date: February 11, 2005 at 3:04
Good album. 7,5/10. Best songs for me Christine and I'll be there.

From: AOR freaky Date: February 11, 2005 at 4:16
Good is an understatement ! This is SUPERB ! Wish one new release these days could touch this, but that's not the case at all !

From: Geoff Date: February 11, 2005 at 17:50
As I said I would above, I listened to this one again, twice, to see what I was missing - but I still stand by my first thoughts. This is a good solid album, but IMO there are 7 songs on the Network CD that are better than ANY track on this one. I still have a tape player in my car and keep an ongoing compilation of all the best tracks from my countless CDs, and I have 7 Network songs on those tapes, and 0 from Red Dawn. This is a good, consistent and solid CD, just no stand-out gems IMO.

From: z4roxx Date: February 11, 2005 at 17:59
Geoff,I prefer Network, too.Totally the most killer tracks are in Network indeed, but the first 3 of this one are awesome...I also like Larry Baud vocals,I like particular voices when there are good singer, not voices like Konkurent or Mannerheim,I could sing instead them indeed!ahahah!!

From: THE KING Date: February 12, 2005 at 20:19
CLEAN THE WAX OFF YORU EARS GEOFF, HOW CAN YOU STATE ' FLYIN HIGH ' , 'I'LL BE THERE ' & 'NEVER SAY SURRENDER ' AREN'T GREATER THAN ANYTHING BY NETWORK WHO'S STRONGEST TRACKS IS THE OPENER. : ) CHEERS

From: Geoff Date: February 12, 2005 at 20:46
Whether the first track on Network is best or not is a matter of opinion, and whilst on the subject of opinions I think 'I'll be there' is the best track on this CD, but still not close to the 7 tracks I picked from the Network CD. BTW, I have a cotton bud in my ear as we speak (Somehow went right thtough and is poking out my other ear too!) but Network still sound much better to me. Cheers.

From: z4roxx Date: February 12, 2005 at 21:17
The first Network song is maybe the best song of these both L.Baud's bands,IMO.Geoff,I think'Flyin'high'and'liar'are at the same level of'I'll be there',the first has a fantastic keys work and a great energy indeed,'liar'a catchy riff with an ultrastunning refrain...And the production is somethin'spectacular,IMO.But yeah man,Network is better also to me!

From: AOR freaky Date: February 13, 2005 at 3:57
I'm with THE KING here ! How good Network may be, they are blown away by Red Dawn, certainly if you listen to the pompy keys from David ! BRILLIANT !

From: oliver Date: February 13, 2005 at 4:21
imo this one couldn´t be compared with the network release. much harder rocking, better songwriting. no doubt, this is an all time killer melodic release, an absolute must. 9,5/10

From: Eleni Date: February 13, 2005 at 8:59
This album is the reason why I've been into AOR for 4 years now. I don't have much to say. I suppose I was lucky that a friend was such a passionate AOR lover that he convinced me to listen to this. My all-time favorite album, maybe of any music genre! 10 is not enough really.

From: Swriter Date: February 13, 2005 at 11:11
I would choose this one before Network for a few reason, the songs!!! David from Rainbow on keys, Tristan who went on to play with Trans Siberian on guitar, and Larry!!! This is in the hard rock aor league along side with Rainbow, Bad English, Harline, etc. a must have. Network is also great indeed, but more of an 80's sound and lower production value, but, get em both!!!

From: THE KING Date: February 13, 2005 at 22:49
Geoff, Remove the cotton but at once, all your opinions are totally flawed by this admission. Once you remove the cotton bud please re review every cd release you done and you should be able to get a better appreciation for some of the thumbs down you been handing out

From: ace66 Date: February 14, 2005 at 9:34

From: ROCKER76 Date: February 21, 2005 at 9:52
Not much else to say that hasn't been already. A superb combination of AOR & hard rock. Not a poor song to be found, w/ a few being better than others. Highlights: Flyin' High, Liar, Dangerous Child, Promises, She's on Fire (magnificent keyboard intro), and Never Say Surrender. Very consistent, well-written, and highly skilled musicianship. What else can you ask for? And considering the alternatives in '93, this one is especially rewarding.

From: chinese Date: February 21, 2005 at 11:31

Saludos Javi.

From: Swriter Date: March 22, 2005 at 19:14
great one again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just a note, on nehrecords.com in the coming releases, this is listed, wonder if it is a new remaster??? so what, get it!!!!!!!!! one of the best, no doubts

From: TIM (2) Date: March 23, 2005 at 2:54
I think they've just pressed more copies of this which is why it's become available again. Anyone who doesn't have the NETWORK album (which is excellent - but not as good as RED DAWN IMHO) should note that AOR Heaven are getting hold of some more copies from the 24th March. Both are pretty essential I'd say.

From: AOR freaky Date: March 23, 2005 at 15:49
Not a remaster, indeed. The sound was already HUGE for that time. Don't think a remaster would be necessary ! A new one . . . !!!!!

From: swriter Date: August 9, 2005 at 15:14
well, the new re-release is out again to just let anyone know that does not have this, I found at neh records!!!! still sounds amazing and one of the best

From: PAUL Date: October 25, 2005 at 11:45
When we're talking about big keyboard players and classic AOR albums must mention whithout a doubt mr.Rosenthal and RED DAWN.This album is truly unbelievable, essential from the bottom to the top! This is one of the 2-3 best works of 90's and blows away bands like ALIAS and HARDLINE...miles away! even THE STORM. David's playing is as always amazing and the man proves that he is a KEYBOARDMASTER (as he did with RAINBOW & DEPARTURE).Keep on playing 'she's on fire',simply the AOR perfection...

From: AOR freaky Date: October 26, 2005 at 7:51
DAMN RIGHT, PAUL ! This blows away both Alias and Hardline together ! This is KEYBOARD HEAVEN by the maestro himselves : Mr. Rosenthal ! Hell, I WANT another NEW RED DAWN CD !!!!!! This is pure MAGIC !!!

Can totally understand why this one appeals as it mixes AOR,Melodic Rock, Pomp & virtually everything else inbetween in one big pot - something for everyone - massive keys, big guitars & most importantly great songs with class hooks to back them up, Top that off with a $100 production job & voila. My tops, 'Flyin' High', 'Christine', 'She's On Fire' & the title track. Pretty much benchmark stuff for anyone not yet in the know.

OHHH MAAANNNNNNN! This one fucking RAWKS! I love everything about this album. It has awesome hooks, just the right amount of keyboards and a vocalist who sings his ass off. I didn't hear a single bad track on this. Nothing that I would call a filler either. I think everyone should own this album. Is this the only release that they put out. I'd love to get my hands on some more of their stuff.

Pardon, but when the voice started for the first track I thought 'What the f..??'-It's more an hard rock voice than made for AOR.It's like listening to SURVIVOR, FRANKE & THE KNOCKOUTS or even the guy's who sang 'The power of love' for McFly's riding into the past.I don't like those voices that much. The same thing is with their sound-I let TOUR DE FORCE and VAN HALEN valid as mentioned above-,so you can definitively hear the american roots out of their music. I hear so much SURVIVOR to 'Eye of

This great band has nothing to do with bands like SURVIVOR and F&TN (which are two excellent bands) and blows miles away all the bands from Scandinavia. Easily in my top 10 of 90's.

I have to admit this is a lot better after two more spins in my portable. I accepted the voice (still not my cup)and there are some brilliant songs on the CD with the others not far behind. The worst track for me is 'Dangerous Child' while 'She's on fire' is an outstanding AOR track. I'll even say one of THE BEST AOR tracks I ever listened to alongside with OUTSIDE EDGE's 'Fire & Ice',ONLY CHILD's 'I believe in you',TOMMY SHAW's 'Dangerous game',THE PROMISE's 'Arms of a stranger' etc. 8,6/10

Folk, this is not 'Hard-Rock'. This is pure AOR!!! Listen the songs 'Flyin' High', 'Liar', 'I'll Be There', 'Christine' and 'Never Say Surrender' are pure AOR!!! Seems like STRANGEWAYS and a little bit to Jimi Jamison's voice (some songs). And seems like too to 'Iron Eagle 'Never Say Die', from King Kobra. Get this CD and you like very much!!! Pure AOR!!!

From: Erik Date: May 20, 2006 at 6:04
The perfect cross over between AOR and Melodic hard rock. Gems here are Flying High, Cant get over you, Christine and Never say Surrender.8,9/10 PS And the whole discussion about the best album being Network or Red Dawn. Thats a a draw so get em both !

This is one of the best hard rock albums ever! Larry's voice is very powerful and sentimental at the same time.Truly unique! I think 'Promises' is one of the best songs ever written. The rest of the songs are truly amazing. Just listen to Liar,I'll be there, dangerous child and the cliche but very good ballad take these chains and you'll surely be amazed!

Man, I was just spinning this one again. This is one smokin' hot cd in my books and their from the good old US of A. I can't believe this was recorded in 1992. Had this one come in 1986, they would have been huge. I love everything about this one. I just scored me a second copy of this one from a local shop.

This is one of the best albums in rock history. And it's really sad that people can't tell the difference between a masterpiece like this and a just good album like Diving for pearls...DFP even has a greater score for god's sake...

From: AOR1 Date: November 24, 2008 at 12:19
Very close to perfection. Brilliant melodic (hard) rock. Not a single filler can be found. 95/100

One of thoose few perfect albums from groups that most people never heard of.

From: shoemaker Date: January 10, 2009 at 6:08
Close to perfection? Perfect? Very strong ok, but 'Christine' and 'I´ll be there' are classic fillers on this.

From: DOUG Date: July 5, 2009 at 13:08
very good music, one of the best MHR albums of all time.

El comienzo del album Flyin High esta sensacional de arrancarse los cabellos, genial...ese fue mi gancho inicial para hacer de este disco uno de mis favoritos. Las demás muy buenas por eso 100/100

From: Kip Date: September 26, 2009 at 13:31
I'm surprised at the lack of championing for the song 'Promises'. After having been in my collection for a few years and having solidified itself as my favorite album ever, this song has crept to the front of my favorites. I'm sorry I can't get into Network as much, I think every song here blows that one away completely... I just compiled a top 1000 song list for my mp3 player, put them loosely in order from 1-1000 and found 6 of these in my top 100. From best to next best my order was: Promises, Liar, I'll Be There, Never Say Surrender, Flyin' High and Take These Chains. Total melodic perfection to these ears right there.

Great solid album that might appeal to Drive She Said fans as the music is pretty similar..for me as i usually say to rate an album a 100 it has to be really an outstanding one and this release has all the factors to be included into this top category. The songs..well "Liar","Dangerous Child","I Can't Get Over You","She's On Fire" were my faves but overall "Never Say Surrender",this one is an excellent song..."Take These Chains" is a killer ballad.Larry Baud has a very strong voice, the ideal for these kind of songs..the musicianship is remarkeable too!.Just buy and enjoy!.100/100

Here i am! Hey deletted my comments! Good album? Great and Almost a Perfect MHR Album! Network is a very good album but this record is better! Larry Baud´s voice is perfect here! "Liar" defines this album, David Rosenthal shines himself! A MUST HAVE and a INSTANT CLASSIC! 9.6/10

Wow what an album! I don't know which are my favourites but I'll Be There, Flyin' High and I Can't Get Over You are exceptional! I would love another album from Red Dawn.

From: DonDefo Date: November 4, 2010 at 15:47
When I firstly heard "Flying high" I realised that I NEVER listened to such GOOD track in its composition. Of course I love tracks like "Face to face" by FM more(because they've got sth inside) but this one and the whole album(which my colleagues who "know" music very well, don't know Red Dawn and never heard of this band) kicks ass. Beautiful work!

From: halfordhughes Date: May 21, 2011 at 4:52

Check the original 'Red Dawn' band when they were called 'Infinity' and featuring Rosenthal along with a certain Mitch Malloy on vocals and guest musicians including Reb Beach on guitars. The album is out soon on melodicrockrecords, awesome stuff. If you like Red Dawn you will love Infinity.

in 1993 this jewel was a light in the grunge s awful night.i always feel lot of pleasure when i listen this record, even after all these years.it s a very brilliant and dynamic melodic rock realise with beautiful keyboards.i can say that this album is a top class hard fm record.sound, production, singer and songs are really excellent.

unfortunatelly no bonus track on the very rare japan edition.

superb release by RED DAWN and a much overrated one !their sound is very similar to HOUSE OF LORDS and overall i d say that they re in the same level!what s missin are the videos, the promotion and the legacy out of them!all the songs are pretty fine and especially "dangerous child","take these chains","she s on fire" and "never say surrender"!essential

From: 123charpenay Date: April 23, 2021 at 16:11
grandiose and sumptuous keyboards from david rosenthal(rainbow).
