Heavy Harmonies Review

Having been a fan of Savannah's first disc, I was looking forward to receiving this one. I popped it in, and.... was... well... underwhelmed. Oh, ok, maybe the first track is a throwaway; let's listen further. Hmm... sounds "thin". *sigh* Ok, maybe third one's a charm... getting to the chorus... there we go! Now can they keep it going? Yus! Track 4 is a good one too. In a nutshell, this disc starts slow, but we get to some pretty damned decent AOR. I think the production is better than on the first album. It's weird, some of the tracks absolutely smoke, whereas others seem uninspired. Savannah has the potenential to have some absolutely towering choruses, and several of the tracks (most notably Live to See Tomorrow and Forever's Come and Gone) showcase this quite well. Fast forward (isn't that a misnomer in the day of the CD?) past the first few tracks, and this some powerful stuff. Overall, I think fans of melodic AOR will be quite pleased with this effort. Rating: 83/100

Pretty much agree with the HH review-some really cool tunes mixed with some duds. Have to say that I like tracks 2 and 3, however. Their first album (S/T) was much the same-uneven. The singer sounds a lot like Ted Poley from the first 2 Danger Danger albums. Anybody agree with me on that?

I'll go along with that. I will say that this is a MAJOR disappointment after the much better debut from '98. Production values seem compromised on "Forever" and the songs are not as good. The real deal is Savannah's debut, or Slyboyz's "Good Time Music".

Another impressive release from Savannah, who find themselves as one of the few American bands that are recording anything that compares to former stadium fillers Firehouse and early Danger Danger. An album that picks up where they left off last time and improves it on almost every front, with a small mention to the production in places. Fans of commercial 80's influenced American stadium rock will love this. Their fans base established with their debut should only grow with this release.

Dan's review hits the mark here. I liked a few of the tunes alot, but the rest could have used a little more production and depth. More choruses, better hooks.

Dan, the second song All or Nothing also rocks. Anyway, this is a great CD of hard rock. The first song is not a troaway either, not as big as Last to Know, but still.

Good CD, I liked this one. It has a great sound and one I like. I'd recommend this one to anyone. However I think their first one is just a tad better.

Much better than the debut. Never quite understood the hype it received.Some of the tunes on that were piss poor. The singer is Ted Poley II. This has better songs and better production. Not a classic by any means but still worth getting if you see it around.

Alongside the debut this is like a stream of urine down a child's leg, but as a melodic rock album on it's own it is really quite good. The production and overall feel of the musicianship is not so good, and hollow for lack of a better word, but the vocals are great and so are a lot of the songs. Yeah, I really do like this album because of the great songs, but it pales so dearly in comparison to the brilliant debut. Good solid album.

Geoff - Please enlighten me. What is so great about the debut? Premonition, Two Young Hearts and Useless Alibis are good songs granted but as an album it is a long way from being a classic. Some of the production on it is almost of demo quality.

I just purchased this from the Keyboard player on ebay. He was nice enough to personally sign the insert and slipped in two picks and a keychain. Great transaction, guy and most importantly band! If you love great vocals, stellar guitar playing and musicianship, this is the band and album for you!

I just got this CD in the mail last week. it's a really great CD, the only thing that is stopping from totally loving this CD is the poor production quality. However the songs are excellent catchy sing a long choruses. so i guess i could let the production slide on this one. At the same time i've heard heard worser production on other cd's that i own but i've also heard better.

Good follow-up, but suffers from a horendous track order! I talked to Marty about it (the keyboard player, ex-Slyboyz,) and I found out that the current track order was the record label's move and not theirs. I shared my revised track order with him, and he said I was close to the original order. I'll post my revised track order with my next message.

GOOD CD 78/100 if you are a fan of the band ,get you'll enjoy it ! the MICHAEL SWEET's production it's not really great but OK ! And IMO thr running order it's not that bad ! if you're a DANGER DANGER fan you'll love it !!!

this one is pretty good hard rock release by SAVANNAH.michael sweet in production and back vocals, gives the band the proper guidance.great vocals and guitar work and some good songs is what you get.listen to "fight your way (out of love)","day after day &night",and the opener "one more for the road".give it some spins and you ll get into it.nice release
