Take Me Away is the best song on this album...listen to it over and over. You will love it!

From: Kim Date: January 23, 2002 at 15:15
Jenni................................I totally agree. Underrated, but still a superb album.

From: masque Date: October 23, 2002 at 21:55
great sound on this album.this is standard boc has made for 80's.

From: koogles Date: October 25, 2002 at 15:46
A bit inconsistent, with excellent tracks like "Take Me Away", "Shadow of California", "Feel The Thunder" and "Eyes on Fire" (covered a couple years later by Treat- of all people!!) Unfortunately, "Let Go" is nonsense and "Veins" doesn't get the blood pumping.

From: Axelinger Date: October 30, 2002 at 1:31
Let Go is the worst thing they ever did -- it sounds like a bunch of pasty-faced teens farting around in their basement... But Feel The Thunder, Veins, Shadow Of California, and Dragon Lady more than make up for that glaring faux pas... Shooting Shark and Light Years Of Love are also great, haunting tracks...

From: freddy de keyze Date: November 7, 2002 at 3:04
Brilliant and original band, but I have to agree, none of their albums are really classics. But their overal sound is so unique and original and sometimes phenomenal that they deserve the term of a classic first rate hardrock band and one of the best in history !

From: Alcamenes Date: December 26, 2002 at 7:57
I thought the band sounded a little tired on this record. Shooting Shark is a cool song though. I wouldn't rank this among their best but it's still BOC.

From: Joe Date: May 28, 2003 at 3:50
"Shooting Shark", Dragon Lady", Veins" and "Take Me Away" are great songs on this somewhat sub-par effort. This album is still better than many other bands have produced.

From: Reno Date: May 28, 2003 at 5:58
Take Me Away was the only tune on this CD I liked. The rest were ok for what they were, but not memorable.

Solid release that wanes a little towards the end. Take me Away ( written by Aldo Nova) is excellent as is Shooting Sharks (love the funky Bass line from Randy Jackson),Eyes On Fire & Veins. Not the most consistent of BOC releases but well worth getting for the above mentioned tracks. 7.5/10

From: AOR freaky Date: January 27, 2004 at 11:41
Indeed Jez, 'Take Me Away' is a brilliant song ! I can't sing it right away ! On every CD BOC has a few songs which are irresistable ! Utterly and total BRILLIANT ! Fantastic band with a unique sound. If one band should have been big , certainly these guys !

From: Rockhead Date: March 26, 2004 at 14:54
Take Me Away and Shooting Sharks saves this Cd from total blow out.

From: Propane Date: December 2, 2004 at 15:27
Starts out great but fizzles out at the end. Hving said that, still a must have for the BOC stack.

From: Dreamaholic Date: June 4, 2005 at 5:39
Rockhead pretty much nailed how I feel about this CD...

From: rene Date: December 23, 2005 at 17:07
A killer album of pure hard aor (SURVIVOR, early 80s APRIL WINE, mid and late 80s BAD COMPANY etc...). A very good album for any melodic hard rock or AOR lovers.

From: Adam Blackheart Date: December 29, 2005 at 5:56
They shouldn't sound like this... With REVOLUTION BY NIGHT they lost their individuality... Blue Oyster Cult always was more than Survivor or other Aor bands). But Shooting Shark is awesome

From: rene Date: January 1, 2006 at 14:34
I can understand ADAM BLACKHEART that die hard BLUE OYSTER CULT fans dont like this album but for melodic hard rock/hard aor fans this is just a must have. Many of the 70s bands made cool melodic hard rock and hard aor albums in the 80s (URIAH HEEP,KANSAS, BAD COMPANY, MAGNUM, etc...) and i think their is nothing bad about that even if many of their fans dont like those albums. I do like them but also their 70s albums. Hail adam and yes, SHOOTING SHARK is GREAT!!!!!!

From: Adam Blackheart Date: January 8, 2006 at 12:04
Yes, I agree The Revolution By Night is great and I like this album. But it can't be compared with their 70's albums. It's something completly different. It's music for masses , not for "chosen-ones"

From: Adam Blackheart Date: January 8, 2006 at 12:15
SHADOW OF CALIFORNIA is just amazing. The best for those who loves that BOC mood.

From: AorAor Date: February 7, 2007 at 6:27
One of my favourite BOC albums, even if they went for a more commercial sound, the dark feeling and clever lyrics are still present and the songs are catchy even afetr years (Take ma way, Shooting sharks, Shadow of california, Light years of Love) A WELL DONE REMASTERING IS EXPECTED !! AFTER THE RECENT REISSUE OF SPECTRES AND SOME ENCHANTED EVENING MAYBE WILL HAPPEN

From: underworld king Date: March 11, 2009 at 6:41
Another great album by a great band. I remember when this was new I played it non-stop. Like all their albums it gets played regularly in my stereo.

From: Remastered Reason Date: March 25, 2009 at 14:56
This album is not the heavy hitting BOC of the 70's but a more trendy, safe band. "Take Me Away" comes as close to anything rocking they had done in the past, while "Shooting Shark" is the typical Buck ballad that would not sound out of place on a Fleetwood Mac album (Buckingham/Nicks era). "Veins" & "Eyes on Fire" are also of this same mould but side two is very lackluster. "Shaodow of California" may have been better with a real, thick drum sound instead of the synth pop dreck. "Feel the Thunder" has potential to be a haunting tune but lays flat. "Let Go" & "Dragon Lady" are throwaway tunes but show some aggression & angst. Finally, "Light Years of Love" closes this album in less than dramatic fashion. Overall, worth a spin for the casual or curious fan but for the faithfull, this one is probably better remembered to be forgotten.

From: Animal! Date: January 22, 2011 at 1:24
Probably my favorite from these guys. Once played" take me away" in the middle of a field in a lightning storm cranked to 11.
