A new Boston album? Errr ok so how many is that?, well 6 studio albums in 37 years that's some going. This is the first Boston album since 2002's Corporate America which in a nutshell wasn't very good. Sure it had some decent songs but the production wasn't good, it didn't really rock like a Boston album should, and the songs themselves were not very good. Fast forward to 2013 and we have the brand new 'Life, Love and Hope' which has been 11 years in the making. It's produced by Scholz, it's mixed by Scholz, Scholz writes every song and plays almost every instrument and finally he actually sings on the thing. Wow what a talent and genius the guy is. Well NO he isn't, not anymore he isn't and he hasn't been for a very long time. The production, mix on this SUCKS more than ANY other album i have EVER heard. Demos sound way better than this, much better. We have 11 songs on LL&H but only 8 of those are actually new, one of those being an instrumental. |

Kicking off with 'Heaven on earth' instantly you are aware that the production and mix is wrong, and once again we have those hideous programmed drums. The song is actually ok but everything sounds jumbled and wrong. 'Didn't mean to fall in love' (originally on CA) is given another crack on here but sounds exactly the same, it's no different at all and wasn't good before. 'Sail Away' features the vocals of the great Bradley Delp but even this sounds weird, the vocals sound weird. The title song is a more uptempo rocker featuring DeCarlo on vocals (sounding quite similar to Delp) but the drums are completely dreadful and ruin what could have been a good song. I am going to cut it short now as i feel all that needs to be said is that this is NOT a very good album. Scholz needs to finish the band Boston and give his ego a rest, finally. He is NOT a genius, he was but hasn't been for a very long time. Boston is toast and only someone completely deluded would think otherwise. |

eleven years after the surprising and excellent "corporate america",a new boston realise ?be carrefull this "new" record is a trap.in fact three songs are present on corporate america.here we simply have some new versions,very closed to the originals.these three songs are "someone" "you gave up on love "and "didn t mean to fall in love".i think that with time tom scholz lack inspiration and he needs some money before chrismas.in eleven years he could deliver us 10 or 11 songs and add for example some bonus live tracks from corporate america.why not.here it s not a real new and complete album.nevertheless i think that tom scolz stay a Genius. |

Is Tom Scholz the George Lucas of melodic rock? He is trapped by his own past success and clearly trying to explore more diverse(mellow)songs like the ’80s synth-rock 'Sail Away' with these last 2 albums. I was expecting a tribute song or two to Brad Delp who committed suicide in 2007, which are no where to be found and I think is disrespectful on Scholz's part. On a positive note this is a better than 'Corporate America' (2002) with the track 'Heaven on Earth' the standout and a handful of others. Of course it's not at all in the same league of Boston's first 4 albums(I include the underrated 'Walk On' (1994). Speaking of that release since Brad is gone I think Scholz should have again recruited Fran Cosmo (Orion the Hunter) and came up with some fresh material instead of dusting off and reworking old tracks. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that, in 2013, the vast, overwhelming majority of peope out there are more than satisfied with the moldy oldies from the first two albums(mainly the debut) that they hear every 90 minutes on classic-rock radio every single day. Which is a nicer way of saying that, almost forty years on, nobody really gives a fuck about Boston anymore. After Don't Look Back, it's insane that Tom Scholz thinks he can put out a record roughly every eight years, and people will still care. He was lucky to get a little bit of attention with Walk On (which did have its moments), but even THAT was almost twenty years ago. I'm sure I'm pissing a few people off, but theere just is no real place for Boston in 2013 exceept as a nostalgia act, and this subpar album proves it. You wouldn't think Mr. Meticulous would do anything half-assed, but that's what this sounds like. Thereare plenty of AOR bands still mining the territory Boston specialized in in the '70's, and |

My poiint is, if you're going to show up every decade or so, and we're alll supposed to be digging it, you better bring your A-game, and this ain't it. Boring songs, weird production, and just an overall feeling of a falling tree in an empty forest. |

hello doghouse.not totally agree with you.boston is inimitable ,i don t know one band who plays hard fm like boston.boston have is own style,very special (the sound of the guitars for example).but i m totally agree with you cause i think ,like you, that boston have his future behind him.sad news!!!the beast still move on but it will be finish very soon. |

This album is just so lackluster that it's hard to get into. It's not BOSTON, its Tom Sholz tinkering in the studio, with his pals, with the clout that comes with the name BOSTON to put out an album. “Heaven on Earth” is okay, I also like “You Gave Up on Love” (but it's a total re-spin from a past and again lackluster album). I agree with the comments above and to make no mention of Brad Delp is disrespectful. Yeah, Tom is the brain of BOSTON but it was Delp's amazing voice that really propelled this band. BTW, there is mention above about Delp and Cosmo in the band at the same time. Totally agree that Cosmo should have been brought into this project. I saw BOSTON many years ago at Red Rocks Amphitheater (Colorado) with Delp and Cosmo; great show, they really played well off each other. Gary Pihl, longtime contributor to BOSTON (Sammy Hagar connection) was on the lineup too. |

To be fair, "Boston" has always been, sa Doug put it, Tom tinkering in the studio with his pals. As I understand it, there really was no band when they were signed. Scholz, Delp, and one other guy recorded demos in Tom's basement, and the label thought it was finished product. As for tributes to Delp on this album, his vocals are used here, although even they sound kinda weird, like maybe they were just scratch tracks. |

look today on melodic rock to boston s movie of frontiers records.honestly i don t understand all.but i m sure that this little movie is a(my english is not perfect i m a poor lone french hard rock fan) swindlind.3 songs (excellent ok) are presents on the lastvery great record (corporate america who date from 11 eleven years).the demonstration with guitar at the end of the film is ridiculous.my closed friend alain "toon s" bartin" guitarist of chain reaction is able (i see him 10000 times)to make a demonstration 1000 times better.i m sad cause i m a very big boston s fan.but here they touch the bottom. |
