Heavy Harmonies Review
From: Dan Date: March 17, 2003 at 0:12
The latest album following the "Hey, let's releases this in the U.S. a year or more after it's out everywhere else!" philosophy. Kane Roberts and friends in a very schizophrenic project. This album has an identity crisis. When I heard the vocals of track one, I said to myself "WTF! This is Static X - Push It". It really caught me off guard. VERY modern. I listened to the first 2 tracks and was ready to file it somewhere between Papa Roach and Snake River Conspiracy. And then out of left field comes track 3 "Walk". Straight melodic AOR! Eh? I know diversity is something to be strived for in today's day and age, but this disc takes it to a new level. The vast majority of songs are quite good, and the production is top notch. But every now and then you'll get a riff or melody that doesn't quite fit. A gigantic case of "one of these things is not like the other".

I can see why Frontiers would choose this disc to market here in the states; a potential crossover with the younger fans. Unfortunately, it also has the potential to piss off the masses as well: the tried and true AOR fans may take a listen to the first few tracks and write off the disc, and the unenlightened masses may purchase it based on the first few tracks only to encounter "wimpy melodic crap". The end result: a disc where the positives outweigh the negatives, and there are some really good choruses. Standout tracks: "Walk", "Love Gone Wrong", "Rebel Heart". Once you go past the first 2 tracks, the album is quite solid.

Rating: 78/100

Not sure if there are enough musicians on this cd. Great Kane Roberts sound, but too many Musicians. I like this cd a lot. Any Kane Roberts fan will like it.

From: Reno Date: July 4, 2002 at 13:33
Agreed. There just might be too many musicians here, but it's still Kane Roberts. He did a great cover of his own song Rebel Heart off his Saints & Sinners cd. All the songs on this cd are very good. Big production and lots of guitar! Good combo.

From: Erik Date: July 14, 2002 at 2:08
I own this cd but I didn't like it as much as Saints & Sinners.

From: Hurra Date: August 22, 2002 at 18:42
The version of Rebel Heart sucks big time. Sounds like a poor demo. Don`t understand why he put it on here when the original rocks like it does

From: koogles Date: October 26, 2002 at 14:15
Reno: how can you say the production is good on this? Go back and listen to "Saints and Sinners" and then you'll be agreeing with me and Hurra. With the right production, some of the songs here (especially "Walk" and "Love Gone Wrong") could really light a fire under one's ass. As it stands, this couldn't burn if its name was fire.

From: Rycheage Date: June 9, 2003 at 0:41
Phoenix Down was a long time coming and now it's here, it isn't really comparable with Kane Roberts' most recognized classic album Saints & Sinners, but does contain a few great tracks that will send fans of commercial hard rock & heavy aor begging for more. The only problem is we don't get more. Not yet anyway.

From: CC Date: October 20, 2003 at 21:53
Brilliant CD,but its no surprise that the CD has many directions as it is more a collection of stuff recorded at different times & in different places (hence the multiple musicians). I absolutely love the opening track "Reckless" as it was modern without being totally removed from the classic rock sound (anyone spot the song in the film Rockstar?)

From: Hrudet Date: January 17, 2004 at 0:33
The style is certainly varied, but the album carries a common thread, so the songs do not sound too much out of place. With the style jumping around a lot, there is the danger that some fans are going to hate or at least dislike some elements of the album. The ones that get into this album the most are those who don't mind some diversity. True to form though, the more anthem/aor tracks are absolutely spot on and almost worth the admission price alone.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 2:38
Kane Roberts finally comes back with another album after the great Saints and Sinners. While this album has some tracks that sound like that album, even including a remake of "Rebel Heart", the album also shows some variety with some more modern touches and produces a very good hard rock album. 8/10

From: Geoff Date: November 15, 2004 at 2:05
A slightly weaker production job doesn't really concern me when songs this good are on display. Not as good as the amazing 'S & S', but this is full of great melodic rock songs equiped with killer hooks. I admit I'd have loved a sound similar to his previous album, but as I say the songs are very good on this CD. Highly recommended.

From: headbanger4life Date: January 26, 2006 at 1:42
This one really hit a homerun with me. I enjoyed most of the songs here. It is more commercial sounding than Kane's previous stuff, but I still got into it. I even picked up the Japanese version with a bonus track.

GREAT OPENING TRACK[THIS WAS IN THE FILM ROCK STAR]BUT THE REST OF THE ALBUM FALLS FLAT, A HIT N MISS AFFAIR IM AFRAID.

From: metalmastermusic Date: July 16, 2008 at 11:43
How did this one get rated so high ? This really is one bad peice of musicianship. I liked Kane Roberst but I have lost all faith in him now. It falls flat on its face with very little to even commit memory to. 30/100

From: CC Date: May 14, 2009 at 18:43
Its been 10 years since this release, isnt it about time for something new Mr Roberts? This album was awesome I admit, but after 10 years I want some more awesomeness!

From: metalmaniac777 Date: March 18, 2011 at 14:01
Hard to believe it's been 12 years since this masterpiece was released...isn't it time for Kane Roberts to rise up like a phoenix from the ashes with some new material to kick our asses and ears with? Everyone seems to operate under the impression that this project isn't as good as his "Saints & Sinners" CD. Well, that's because it's not...but like dry-humping naked, it's about as close as you can get without actually getting there. The hooks on here are huge enough to knock on the gates of Heaven, the guitars pack power that swings back & forth between aggressive & melodic, and Roberts sings his guts out...and that is all you can ask for from a hard rock album.

From: hair metal again Date: October 12, 2011 at 2:19
excellent hard rock release by KANE ROBERTS in the same style with the amazing S&S release.of course the sound is a little updated but the basis remains the same.you can find some killer stuff here like"in another life","walk","love gone wrong" and "i want it again".essential for hard rockers

From: rick kerch vzla Date: October 28, 2011 at 20:35
Different opinions above...good,bad,regular album...a constellation of good reputation singers/musicians is what you find here led by the "big man" Kane Roberts, apart from him there are some other great names such as Jim Peterik(Survivor-Pride Of Lions) & Sam Blue(Ya-Ya)...about the songs only 4 caught my attention because mainly is what you can relate musically talking with some of the guys in here(Vinny Burns,Blue,Peterik and so on),those songs are "Reckless"(rocks),"Walk"(nice AORish),"Love Gone Wrong"(catchy)& "Rebel Heart"(great shot!)...a matter of tastes i guess...78/100

a big disapointment.this record have nothing in common with the second sensational solo effort (saints and sinners) from kane roberts.many average songs and a bunch of awful songs(very modern without any mélodies).not for me.for make short a weak realise from the alice cooper s guitarist.
