From: freddy de keyze Date: September 16, 2002 at 2:56
WHAT A RECORD !!!!! Once again a big surprise for me, that that litte people know this absolute MONSTER of a record. The opening song 'Modern Day Delilah' is in my opinion the BEST AOR SONG EVER !!!!!! No Doubt !!! And Alan Pasqua is one of the all time great keyboard players. BRILLIANT !!! What a pity that Van Stephenson died. Rest in piece, my friend, your music will always be reminded. MASTERPIECE and pure class all written over. Not to be missed. CLASSIC !!!!!!!BUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: purrfect-kat Date: September 16, 2002 at 5:48
Freddy how did he die? . . . . You mentioned piece . . . . . . . . . Was that all they found of him was a piece or was there more?

From: TIM Date: September 20, 2002 at 15:54
He meant 'rest in peace.' I haven't heard this one Kat. Do you recommend it?

From: purrfect-kat Date: September 20, 2002 at 21:50
no I don't even know who this guy is. . . The comments that were made about him say he died.

From: freddydekeyzer Date: September 23, 2002 at 4:37
Sorry, guys, but I made indeed a terrible error. It should be, rest in peace. And the man was a genius. Listen to 'Modern Day Delilah', the best AOR song ever written ! If you don't know the record, search it at any cost. It's A MUST HAVE !!!!

From: Aaron Date: September 23, 2002 at 9:27
Very under average disc. Not even worth the $5 I've spent to buy it. Bummer.

From: freddy de keyze Date: October 10, 2002 at 2:50
Dear Aaron, did you listen to the record, the first track, Modern Day Delilah is worth the money alone.

From: Blue Charvel Date: October 10, 2002 at 6:02
I went out and downloaded Modern Day Delilah after all the comments, but quite honestly I didn't think it was all that. Average at best, nuthin' special about it.

From: freddy de keyze Date: October 17, 2002 at 2:59
Blue Charvel, that's your right, but tell us what you find a fantastic track ! Personally, you won't find any better PURE AOR tracks than 'Modern Day Delilah' !!!! Don't you like keys ? Don't you like AOR ?? If this is average at best , how do you call the other music and the scene from today ? Pure crap ???? !

From: JOURNEY Date: October 25, 2002 at 8:24
YEAH!!!!!!!! ' MODERN DAY DELILAH' IS A REALLY MASTERPIECE SONG!!!! IT IS TOGETHER THE SONGS TO YA YA ONE THE BEST AOR SONG EVER!!!!!!

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: October 25, 2002 at 10:09
Honestly Freddy I thought it was just not all that moving. It sounds like something I would expect from Hall & Oates (not that there's anything wrong with that, just not my style). The production is unsure of itself, with what little guitar there is popping out of nowhere as if it was almost an afterthought. I realise you have (and are welcome to) your opinions Freddy, here's mine. Live with it, don't question it.

From: Connaisseur Date: October 25, 2002 at 16:03
This music is too poppy (listen f.i. to the drums), and sounds very out of date. Not a classic at all.

From: freddy de keyze Date: November 19, 2002 at 4:23
Too poppy ? Well, there is a difference between hardrock and AOR. This is definitely AOR, not hardrock. Tell me what you think is great, connaisseur. And out of date ? That's a real joke ! Or do you prefer the nu-metal or nu-breed crap ?

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: November 19, 2002 at 12:37
Too poppy, no bout a doubt it.

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: Blue Charvel Date: November 19, 2002 at 12:42
BTW Freddy, if you were trying to live up to the title of this album, it's 'Righteous Anger', not 'Self-righteous Pouting'...

From: freddy de keyze Date: November 22, 2002 at 2:35
Listen to Raised on Radio by Journey guys and then you will know what real soft stuff is !!! That's pop, but because it's Journey nobody has the guts to say it ! I do !

From: ROB GARCIA Date: January 25, 2003 at 15:52
i dont care what other people say about this album, that is average at best...etc.this is classic american aor at its best!.with musicians like dann huff, mike baird and alan pasqua playing in this album how on earth can this be average!?...its impossible!.unfortunately van is not with us anymore and he surely be missed a lot but his music will live on forever.heaven has gained another aor hero!.VAN REST IN PEACE.

From: freddy de keyze Date: February 3, 2003 at 10:14
Thanks, Rob, you know what good music is all about. Indeed, the musicians on this record are amongst the finest there are in this field. If Blue Charvel or connaisseur (what's in a name ?) don't like it, then they have no clue about pure classy AOR !!! It's time that the real connaisseurs have their say, not people who only know a few CD's. If they like metal more, fine, but this is top class AOR ! POINT !

From: AOR freaky Date: November 24, 2003 at 6:25
Dear Rob, dear Freddy, right you are guys. These here are topmusicians and they made a top AOR album ! I say more : A CLASSIC !!! And if ' Modern Day Delilah'isn't brilliant, what song is then brilliant ! BUY !!!

From: Van Date: May 19, 2004 at 7:11
Awesome album, but i think China Girl is better.

From: swriter Date: March 26, 2005 at 19:46
wowowowowow, is this good!!!!! caught an used copy and Deliah brought back memories, I knew it and sang along but have not heard it in years!!!!! the rest is brilliant!!!! not heavy(some great guitar leads) but a great early-mid 80's key/aor heaven!!!! so when is the re-release of this one, how about 2 on one????? hahaha

From: Swriter Date: March 26, 2005 at 19:58
no wonder the guitar and band is so good on this, I just realized it is half of Giant(Dan and Alan)!!!!

From: AOR freaky Date: March 28, 2005 at 1:01
Swriter, what a BRILLIANT record, isn't it ? But it's already out on CD, mate !

From: Muddley Date: March 28, 2005 at 2:08
Hey player68......stay heavy. LOL

From: Swriter Date: March 28, 2005 at 11:29
All you guys that are in different areas can get alot of cds that I can not, hahahah well, in the U.S. If you can find the 2 cds, they are probably around $30.00 each or more. I think they need to put both Van cds on a 2 for 1 cd. By the way, Van was in a country rock group called Blawkhawk with Henry Paul form the Outlaws, Van wrote and sang harmony on the Blackhawk stuff, check em out, pretty good stuff

From: PAUL Date: August 24, 2005 at 12:07
'MODERN DAY DELILAH'.WHAT A SONG,ONE OF THE BEST OF AOR TOGETHER WITH 'I DID IT FOR LOVE' FROM HARLEQUIN.TOO POPPY?ARE YOU SERIOUS?THIS IS AOR NOT NU-METAL!BRILLIANT AOR.CHECK THE MUSICIANS PLEASE,SOME OF THE BEST OF THIS GENRE OF MUSIC.ALAN PASQUA AND DUN HAFF FORMED LATER GIANT,A PERFECT BAND.NOT BETTER THAN 'SUSPICIOUS HEART' I THINK,BUT STILL AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

From: Lennie Date: February 10, 2006 at 7:57
LOL - this thread is hilarious! AOR Freaky writing to himself half way down, like he'd forgotten he liked it???! And then writing to himself again as 'Paul' (unless Im going mad??!) ?? Geez, Freaky you must be passionate about this album.....he he!!!! For the record I dont own it, but it all just made me laugh!

From: PAUL Date: February 10, 2006 at 12:35
Very funny Lennie. If you don't have this fantastic album (and especially his 2nd MASTERPIECE) then your collection is incomplete...

From: swriter Date: February 10, 2006 at 15:58

From: PAUL Date: February 10, 2006 at 16:54

VAN STEPHENSON IS GOD.

From: shoemaker Date: September 29, 2007 at 5:25
First class AOR. 97/100 only 'Donīt do that' sucks! The titletrack is the best song here, not modern day delilah. 'Righteous anger' the hardest and best song.

From: shoemaker Date: October 1, 2007 at 12:59
'I know who you are' sounds like a song out of the Lostboys movie. Fucking brilliant album. Canīt belive that the other album gets the higher rate. This is far better.

From: TatesTunes Date: October 6, 2007 at 1:56
Ok, here goes, I have been away from Heavy Harmonies for quite some time, but I have tried to find this on CD for years, decided to give this forum a try, born in 68' the 80's and early 90's are the shiznit, and this is one of my fav albums, in my opinion the best track is 'Righteous Anger', it just friggin' rocks, could go on for days about 80's Metal, Pop Metal, Melodic Metal, etc. I'ts all about the hooks and the melodies that make ya feel good. Nuf' Said!! taterz37@hotmail.com 605-484-3991

From: Rage of Zeus Date: January 21, 2008 at 19:25
The best album form this master. Great songs, great guitars and beautiful keys. Modern Day Delilah, what a classic, one of the best songs of all time...Highly recomended. 10/10

From: barker Date: September 11, 2008 at 17:20
His first album "China Girl" was his best effort. One of the greatest lost Classics. It really should be released on CD. Maybe one day ! Have played my CDR to death. I give this a 90/100 and "Suspicious Heart" 95 but his first album is close to 100.

From: rbrigade Date: March 25, 2009 at 12:58
This is good AOR but nothing more. I can count hundreds of far better songs than Modern day Delilah (which is just pop), try Hold back the night by Giant. Actually it's not even the best song on the album...And I can count dozens of far better albums than Righteous anger. Don't do that is country rock, no wonder he went for that style later...Heart over mind was covered by Turner I think, he did a better job and infused the passion needed, it's a great song anyway...All in all I give this album a 7/10, there are way too many fillers...

From: rick kerch vzla Date: February 1, 2011 at 21:43
Mixed impression in the comments above wich i entirely respect...a nice album with good tracks is what we really find in here...a good list of musicians(Huff,Pasqua,Champlin and so on).."Modern Day Delilah" was the hit of the album and perhaps the track that is recognized Van for,"What The Big Girls Do" is excellent,"Others Only Dream" is such a nice ballad,"Righteous Anger" is a goodie one & "all American Boy" is ...Van as everybody knows, passed away a long time ago...quite sad because talent is what he had...86/100

From: 123charpenay Date: June 1, 2012 at 13:11

From: hair metal again Date: September 28, 2022 at 4:29
very good release for VAN STEPHENSON back in 84 offering a sound that reminds me of RICK SPRINGFIELD with a sweet radio friendly sound and strong songs with heartfelt ballads!not the best around ,but still in a high quality in terms of musicianship and songwriting!recommended
