I have had the album for years and consider the best of the best for 1983. I have played the album to death and still play it often. Dream Theater, Petra, Head East and Arcangel are the best. I play it loud loud. Every Song is good. I am only speaking my opinion to it. Jeff Cannata did great job putting this type album together and is worth a listen. dkwhitevv@aol.com david kelly white

Lofty AOR from the early '80s still makes sense (mostly) in 2002. Apart from the banal 'Rock Me Tonight', this is a classy outing that is well worth seeking out on CD.

This is a damm difficult to find CD!!!I recently got mine from Japan after waiting and insisting 6 months for it,just because the last print of it was on 1996.Well,classy early 80`s AOR quite progressive sometimes. As expected Jeff Cannata`s trademark, his soft signature singing.Mellow keyboards and melodies, interesting arrengements typical from the first half of the 80`s.Top songs'Tragedy','Sidelines''Rock me Tonight'.Average record but considered a classic.76 out of 10.

Brilliant release..I remember when this first came out and i heard 'Stars', i was blown into heaven. There is not one duff song here, they are all real belters. There are not a lot of albums i would give a full rating of 10/10 (could count those on one hand), but this one comes very, very close. 9.5/10

A STERLING performance! This was light years ahead of it's time regarding production values. There was nothing that sounded this good when it was released. And the musicianship & songwriting was incredible as well. I remember my friends being blown away by this whenever I played it for them years ago. Why it wasn't a huge commercial success is beyond me. But then again, who ever said the music industry was fair?

As you might expect, the music is full of majestic and bombastic keyboards, but with a delicate touch that evoke a plethora of emotions. Pure pomp/AOR heaven and a celestial experience. Velvety tones, impressive choruses, a melancholic vibe and several tracks that feature a lot of pathos: nothing less than excellent. This album is a true masterpiece and deserves the highest score [100%]

This is another of those albums which makes an immediate impression with melodic rockers everywhere. It's still recognized as one of the more bombastic AOR releases of the genre and appealing due to the vocal overdubs, generous keyboards and crisp drums. For me, Arcangel has more of a Aldo Nova type sound, with Jeff's vocals heading down Jon Anderson (Yes) alley.

Totally awesome album. I seem to remember some jerk at Kerrang or a similar magazine in a retrospective of older albums calling this a waste of vinyl. I hope I meet that guy one day and make candles out of the copious amount of ear wax blocking his hearing. I think Before the Storm would be a great track for a band to use as an intro! There are no bad tracks at all on this album...Mr. Cannata is a genius!!

Spot on Nick - this is a fabulous release.Somebody mentioned the Aldo Nova comparison somewhere above, and that is a good starting place, although i think a few of the tracks sound similar to the late great Balance, especially 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' and 'the superb 'Tragedy'. Another one of those must have releases from the 80's, so go get it if you can find it. It is getting pretty rare these days, as i think it was only released as a Jap import.

TEMAS COMO Tragedy (LA MEJOR Y MI FAVORITA), Sidelines HACEN UN TREMENDO ALBUM, EL RESTO DE TEMAS TAMBIEN ACOMPAÑAN DE BUENA FORMA. SALUDOS DESDE SANTIAGO ICA-PERU.

I don't get it AOR Freaky?! Jez can't like this album. He likes Ra! Didn't you say he's not allowed to like modern rock AND AOR? I was going to say that although this album sounds like a zapping 80's arcade game, 'Sidelines' and 'Wanted' are still awesome songs, and this is actually a pretty good disc. But I just want to check with you first. I also like modern rock so if I understand you correctly I'm not allowed to like this also? Please get back to me if I'm allowed to like this too. Thanks.

Very nice album with that typical AOR sound of the early 80's...vocally pleasant(Jeff Cannata )and good musicianship(from Jeff Bova to Hugh McDonald-actual Bon Jovi bass player-among others)...my favourites are 'Sidelines' & 'Confession' but add to that the nice starter 'Stars','Tragedy'(catchy),'Used To Think I'd Never Fall In Love'(nice softy)& 'Just Another Romance'...recommended album...87/100

Production, songwriting, musicianship - no weak or average point can be found here even if compared to current standards. There is no filler on the album, just pure perfection. My personal favourites are 'Tragedy' and 'King Of The Mountain', the last track that makes you listen to this POMP-MASTERPIECE again and againand again... Second to none.

From: titothetitan |

First four songs are great. But then comes the average 'Rock Me Tonight' and the boring instrumental 'Before the Storm'. In 'Confession' there's too much crap added in. 'King of the Mountain' and the bonus 'Court of the Crimson King', both songs sounds so displaced. That's why I won't rate this album higher. 85/100.

"King of the Mountain" is good song that moves and challenges the listener. I wouldn't give it an A; the chorus is catchy but still a little too plain. But this is AOR with hints of prog rock. Gotta love a song with a nice outro.
