Love Dean's guitar sound! "Sword and Stone" great tune.

From: Jennifer Date: April 24, 2001 at 12:54
Great guitar player-he was the backbone of Loveryboy. I saw him live in 1989 on this tour and he was great.

From: John Date: April 24, 2001 at 15:29
Great album from Loverboy guitarist. Dean was highly underrated and a great solid player. Catchy riffs make this one memorable. Definitely worth a listen. Thanks for info Aaron!

this is a really cool tape and I love it so much.

From: Michelle Date: April 27, 2001 at 20:48
Very good music and very underrated player. 'Sword and Stone,' 'Draw The Line' and 'Doctor" are the best cuts. Is this one still available? I have the record LP but would love to have it on disc!

From: Andy Date: April 28, 2001 at 10:54
good tunes here and his best stuff ever.

From: Walt Cosgrove Date: May 1, 2001 at 20:41
Hey! Nice to see this album on a site like this! Here in Calgary we've loved Paul Dean for years. "Sword and Stone" still gets radio airtime, and this one rates high marks.

From: Tony Date: May 10, 2002 at 22:02
Hey other people own this besides me?!?! Still will listen to this cd once in a while and sounds like a guy who REALLY wants to let it rip but c'mon in 89' how much could this guy really "let go"? Stay too close to that Loverboy sound and you're branded "wimpy" and if he strayed too far it would've been a case of "who's he foolin?". So faced with that dilemma this is a great cd by a very underrated guitarist & songwriter!!

From: koogles Date: June 26, 2002 at 18:10
Well said, Tony. Paul Dean had a case of Steve Lukatheremia. "Hard Core" is heavier than any one Loverboy CD, but still keeps its feet in sensible melodic shoes. Paul's voice has all the character of a dustpan brimming with sawdust, but gotta give him credit for trying.

this should have been a loverboy album ha ha ha this album rocks

From: Big Mike Date: April 7, 2004 at 15:55
There's 5 great songs on this one. Shits all over the "machine" album. Get this if you can find it, got mine at metalmayhem.com.

From: Lynchomaniac Date: June 6, 2004 at 11:31
Good album with "Sword and stone" and "Draw the line" as the highlites

From: kurgan Date: June 29, 2004 at 5:46
I bought this album back in 89 after reading about it in Guitar Player Magazine. This is a really good album and a must for every hard rock music collector. The version of Sword and Stone is way better than Bonfire's version on the Shocker soundtrack. Draw the line is another great tune. I have played this album for friends and they have all said, "WOW!!!" Buy it, you'll like it, and you won't regret it.

From: Kurgan Date: June 29, 2004 at 13:06
What??? You haven't bought this album yet? GO GET IT!!! NOW!!!

From: Rocker76 Date: July 12, 2004 at 16:02
Good solid hard rock album with consistent songs and quality guitar work. Any fan of Loverboy should naturally pick this up if possible & be ready to rock!! No weak tracks or filler to speak of but I agree w/ previous posts in that "Sword & Stone" and "Draw the Line" are the obvious highlights. Rating 7/10.

From: zld Date: February 22, 2005 at 10:39
His second release "machine" just sucked. It was more rock 'n roll then rock. Avoid it.

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: November 13, 2005 at 10:58
Great Hard Rock/AOR album, Paul Dean(Vocales, Guitarra, Bajo) y Brian MacLeod (Bateria, teclados, bajo) tambien rodeado de otros buenos musicos, cortes de gran nivel como Action(un corte que tiene esa magia de los 80 que lo hace mi favorita )Sword and Stone(Extraordinaria, me gusta mas que Bonfire e incluso Kiss ups!, segunda), Draw the Line(otra joyita), Dirty Fingers, Down to the Bottom, Politics buenisimos cortes que hacen un gran album, asi que a tenerlo y a disfrutarlo.

There are some really good tunes on this disc, but unfortunately Paul doesn't have the voice to sing them and ruins them. Pity...

From: 123charpenay Date: April 10, 2020 at 17:15
